This is probably a stupid question, but how can the trial be nearly over when no defense witnesses have testified yet? Even assuming all testimony from this point on is defense testimony then that still means twice as much prosecution as defense testimony. Has it just been the case that so much of the prosecution testimony has been utterly extraneous that there's simply no need for the defense to waste as much of the court's time in establishing its own case?
