"What do I do to own this guy? Uh, um, fuckit put a firework clipart and mspaint a bow. Yeah, that'll get him"

I think this entire concept creates an internal conflict within a fan, and the cattiness may partly be a result of wanting to direct that frustration outward.

From what I understand, Victorian is just the one type of fashion standard, and you're supposed to shape your body to fit it, hence the corsets and everything. On the other hand it's been mentioned that this movement has a lot of SJW types, who are more likely than not to embrace their natural body shapes.

It's like the proverbial unstoppable object meeting an immovable object. You get a crowd of people who are taught to embrace the bodies they have, but they're supposed to fit into these fashion items that were only meant to compliment 1 body style. You don't want to betray your own ideals by putting in the effort to have that body shape, and yet no matter how you tailor your clothes it's not going to look good because the whole fashion was meant to only look good in that 1 type of body. Even fat cosplayers can look good if they pick the right costume, but you don't have a choice. You just have Victorian.

Then this fandom takes it to 11. Now being Victorian is not enough, the standard is so refined that you guys are saying there are books on it, and people who veer off even a little gets shit on. On the other end of the struggle there is an increasing social pressure to act strong/believe your body already looks flawless/ to be free, so you're even more reluctant to hit the gym because you would look like you're listening to what other people tell you about how to look. The unstoppable object becomes even more unstoppable, and the immovable become even more immovable. At the end of the day you still don't look good, because looking good requires working on a good match of both body and clothes.

That's going to cause some serious stress. So what can you do? One thing is you can shit on other people who also don't look good so that they understand how bad you yourself feel about not looking good. Someone actually managed to look good? All the more important to make her understand how bad you feel. Anyway, this is just an outsider looking in, but I think it seems to coincide with what you guys are saying, that the older participants didn't use to be so bitchy?

Here's another example of what they think is fat:

The standards are crazy and change from person to person, basically guaranteeing that every single person will have some reason for others to tear them down. And if you can't win, you pull others down. Crabs in a bucket.

Unconvincing.

By now I want to slap these bitches. Stuck up whitegirls+weeaboos is a good way to make me mad.

The best way to get back at them, is by knowing their real weakness. Which is ignoring them and making fun of how bad they look (ego is almost always the key) or simply say "nice cosplay", that really grind some gears.

I know, it happened to me that one time I met a girl like this and said his clothes looks really weird and she didn't went apeshit at first but when other people jumped in the bandwagon, it was a glorious disaster.

I find amusing that they are not only going full Victorian +1 in clothing, they also do it in attitude. You see, in that period of time, the social status was ALL you have, so dressing really fancy and being a tight ass bitch (mannered and highly snob) would ensure your success and popularity. So of course, when you weren't cute and rich enough to be the very best, the only choice you had left was to conspire against the higher powers by trash talking them with other low memebers, hence destroying them from the inside.
In other words, the Victorian era was the back stabbing era because most people (men included) wanted to show how much better they were compared to their peers and since being rude in public was... well, rude; the only way the could destroy competition was with these type of shenanigans the lolita community do so. Of course, nowdays we have the glorious internet and more anonimity in general which makes it a bit easier but still, you can know who said what because the backstabbers are generally not the sharpest knife in the kitchen (:coster:) and make mistakes that point straight back to them.

Nerdy cliques like this are always full of back-stabbing and drama, this is a whole new level though. I don't think I've seen a group with this much infighting and hostility like this one. These women are all damaged goods and have some serious issues.

You can see that in modern female culture as well. One can only just hang out with a few valley girls and you can see how quickly they start backstabbing their "friends" right away.

The anonymity here makes it even nastier.

I'm not sure if this is too powerlevelly, but I was involved with l_s/BTB years ago, if anyone has any questions about the process or community in general. (I don't have any good dirt on anything that I remember, though, sorry.)

See, shit like this.

Whoever posted this narrowed herself down to one in nine people who liked that comment. She could've been smart and un-liked it since then, or maybe more likes poured on, but still, that seems like a rookie mistake. You see a lot of stuff like this where it's not clear if they're intentionally doing it as a "hah, I don't give a fuck, we're all against you" or she just didn't realise the implications.

This girl is 100% going to know who was across from them when they took the picture. Even if it was a photo without them knowing. Maybe these girls are braver than I gave them credit for.

Lolita fashion is odd. Why do they put down Muslim Lolita's though?

There's an undercurrent of hate towards "non-traditional" Lolitas - be it muslim, black, etc. To be honest they have more hatred collectively towards those they deem fat, those they deem "ita", those they deem cheap, etc - I wouldn't take it to mean they're all islamophobes, they're all just really salty looking for anything "differing" to attack.

The hijab makes an easy target when people are looking to bitch out their outfits for not being "true" Lolita, and with black people they generally get bitched out about their outfits clashing with their skin tone or not suiting the look so they shouldn't bother, etc.

They're no more vitriolic towards muslim lolitas than they are to any other kind of lolitas, there's enough hate for everyone! :D

To be honest I find Lolita garb with Hijabs to be really cute.

Storytime.

During my late teens I was semi-involved in some Lolita communities, mostly through a friend, because I had an interest in costuming and I liked the aesthetic. The community was a bubbling cesspit of bitchy girl drama and it made the whole thing not fun. One particular girl gained notoriety and eventually became known as 'Hitler Loli' because she was horribly racist and homophobic, insisted black people could not be Lolita because it 'wasn't part of their culture' (HI POT, MEET KETTLE), and hated anyone more than a size 4. She also claimed to have an extensive burando wardrobe and had dozens of pics of the 'wardrobe' but the pictures all came from the sites, with no evidence that she actually owned any of it. She was hardcore republican and would rage against anyone who wasn't American.

Bitch was cray-cray. Name available upon request. She was so nuts I actually remember her.

There was also a single brolita on the comm who mad some nice dresses and shit but who was very very obviously some fetishist. He ran a feminization/petticoat fetish website. He made most of the community uncomfortable because he was 30+ and everyone else was more or less without exception young women between fourteen and 21.

Was that EGL? And one of the mods was black and ripped into her. The mod was kind of crazy too, she used to flip out if people said ghetto and liked to use the word hegemony.

The lolita community is quite entertaining, its full of bitchiness, bad outfits & scammers.

https://encyclopediadramatica.se/UnseelieAllure is probably the 'loli' that we antagonized the most. She makes Pixy seem like a stable person.

I'm not sure how active it is anymore, but the Gal community was connected and just as insane, but with 70% more eye makeup.

It was on Lolita Snap, actually, though she did post on EGL for a little bit. There was a lot of crossover in those days, and this was about... 2005/2007-ish. She was a nutcase in a bunch of different ways. Neo Nazi, religious wingnut, classist, and a bunch of other shit. She was one of those people who fell into the spot between 'too crazy to be real' and 'too crazy to be fake'.

That reminds me of the mentality some have that "a culture is not a costume" in response to people having fun dressing certain ways.

There's an undercurrent of hate towards "non-traditional" Lolitas
I'm sure that at least some people into lolita fashion like "non-traditional" Lolitas though.
