...Death threats? What? Like, it was heavily implied PGI applied some legal pressure to Wandering Samurai but DEATH THREATS?

Also, they're apparently going to make a MWLL2 on the MW5M engine (UE4).
Yeah it was some heavily veiled death threats. most of the info has been lost to time besides a few articles on modDB and I actually asked around the dev's servers with actual developers playing at the time to learn about it. They didn't go too much into it besides "yes there were and that those people all left the project before the reboot. "

The devs making MWLL2 that are not the same people who originally created MWLL from what I understand.

Also tried MW5 the other day and was not impressed. Mad dogs were at least around somewhere with the wolf's dragoons around that time period but arent in the game.

UE4 is pretty intuitive once you get into the format of whatever game you are making. Takes practice but for mechs in theory, all they really have to do is just copy an existing mech, swap out the first person and thirdperson models and swap some stats around as the mechs are all player pawns.
I'm gonna tentatively file that under "bullshit but I believe it" I guess.

Mad Dogs? Mad Dogs didn't show up at all in the IS until the Clan Invasion. The fuck are you on about? MW5M starts in 3015 and the Wolf's Dragoons don't ever show anyway, and they didn't have Mad Dogs with them. WD did raise eyebrows by dragging along things like Annihilators and some other more or less extinct IS designs, but they had NO Omnis with them.

Remember, kids: the Dragoons were mostly filthy freeborns the Clans wouldn't trust with actual Omnis for a multitude of reasons. They only got Clan tech after the invasion.

WD were also undermined pretty heavily by the shit nature of Clan reconnaissance. Or would have been if anyone had actually taken serious exception to the WD rocking up with enough firepower to make any extant merc unit shit its pants, out of nowhere like it was nothing, and firepower on the order of "Annihilators, which the IS had basically forgotten even existed".

But pretty much everyone seemed to recover from the shock of seeing randos show up with stuff that would embarrass a lot of Great House military units long enough to hire them and have them go stomp someone else. Except the Kuritans and Wayne Waco maybe, but the Kuritans are nuts anyway and so's Waco.

Just imagine Wolf's Dragoons finally reaching the outer stretches of the Periphery and Inner Sphere...

Didn't ComStar have those pristine mechs on Terra up and running before WD showed up?

Yeah but most people don't know the kind of shit Comstar can bring to bear (at least until someone does something stupid like not pay their bills and/or fuck with the HPGs, and they might not be around to pass on the word that Comstar's swinging a very big dick)

Yeah, but literally no one outside of ComStar knew about the ComGuards until 3029, when Myndo Waterly officially "created" them.

And even then they played their cards close to their chest and didn't deploy a lot of Star League-era tech. It was only during Tukayyid that they really dusted off the fancy toys.

3029... the year after the Helm Memory Core?

I'm guessing ComStar realized that the cat was out of the bag and the Helm Memory Core being released gave them a bit more plausible deniability.

Pretty much, yeah. They also did a false-flag operation against the Federated Suns to give them a reason to "suddenly" assemble a "defensive militia".

It's ComStar. Everything is between airquotes with these guys.

If anyone deserved to get exterminated in a bloodright hunt it should've been Com*. Those robe wearing assholes buttfucked the IS good, fomenting the War of 3039, then kicking off the FedCom civil war, which ruined the chance for a truly united IS.

I mean, if it weren't for their stranglehold on communications they'd be dead to a man the moment anyone realized the level of fuckery they pull. Someone might try it ANYWAY.

Yeah, remember how I was talking about things that the Jihad/Dark Ages storyline did right? Getting rid of ComStar was one of these things.

Oh yeah I remember - and understand this is like 1988, 89 - all the shit that comstar pulled that was just hinted at. Like, oh, look you've got a nice little city of two million on this planet, that's built around a physics university? Well let's just drop a 5mt nuke on it from a warship painted up in House Kurita colors so House Davion will do the same thing.

I get it that the early house lords weren't exactly the nicest people but the whole "first and second secession wars saw unrestricted use of WMDs" thing was mostly comstar false flags. They've got the blood of more civilians on their hands than the house lords from 2750-3065 combined.

There are times I've wondered if Comstar is a kind of unsubtle commentary on unregulated telecoms.
