Either way, I wanted to say that, having worked as a pianist in a renowned ballet, I saw first-hand what the little girls who begin their training have to endure. Physical strain is only one part of it - the greater half is psychological. I am really not surprised that one ballerina just snapped and went batshit crazy. The girls are taught competitiveness since as young as 5yo and they're raised in rivalry with the other girls over many things - who gets the solo, who gets accepted into ballet high school etc. Most of them just grow up to be insufferable bitches with fucked up knees, ankles and just feet in general. This one went stark staring mad instead. If you saw that one episode of The Simpsons where Lisa went to a ballet school, it's not even much of a caricature, if anything, it's presented a little lighter. The girls even start smoking really early, around 13-ish.

tl;dr I used to work in ballet - fuck ballet, it destroys children and young girls.

Kelly only danced recreationally, never professionally. She didn't start until she was a teenager, if not later, I believe. It was more a hobby that she glorified. Ballet has nothing to do with her current condition or mental state.

Even casually it's extremely demanding. I was talking about prep school for actual serious ballet. Well either way, I understand you. I'm trying to look for a way to excuse her insanity to some degree. I will stop, we all know that is futile.

It's okay. I've been here a while. It's hard to believe someone could be so ill/crazy and it's natural to want to find a reason for it. But the only reason here is Kelly's narcissistic desire for attention, among whatever other mental illnesses she has.

While I agree that the ones who start in early childhood grow up to be quite dysfunctional, that's not the case with Kelly who only started as an adult and wasn't particularly good at it.

Kelly is more the “started as an adult, as a hobby she is mediocre at BEST at.” It’s not her paaaaassion in life, I think. It was her “waify fragile ballerina” identity for a bit, then she realized she was rubbish at it and not a glass-limbed fetching little Giselle destined for the Russian ballet. Also no one gave a fuck she was a ballerina, no matter how many times she posted pics of her legs in pointes.

So she moved onto mutilating herself, then when she discovered the delightful crossover of Former Ballerina and Broken Rotting Legs, she never looked back.

Now she is forever the Tragic Former Ballerina Destroyed By Ironic Tragedy.

I would definitely be interested in a study of the twins' brains after death, though we'll probably have to wait longer for the normal one (or we hope we have to wait longer). Twins, triplets, etc. can be so similar it's creepy and can sometimes appear to have almost supernatural connections to each other. Yet this one turned into a severe self-harming munchie. Granted twins often also have very different personalities, likes, dislikes, health issues, etc. but this specific dichotomy of sorts is interesting to witness. I forget - do they have any other siblings or is it just Kelly and Gina?

I would imagine the attention from the amputation coupled with the awesome free drugs will last a while. But eventually she is going to have to go back to the old formula of self mutilation. I'm going to guess she will go to work on her breasts because if she is dumb enough to work on the stumps, she's in for a real horror show if they have to take anything more off. She can afford to lose the tits because she doesn't have a use for them anyways.

This thread made me remember why I don't usually come into the BP section of the Farms. What is she going to do if she picks at her stumps? There's not a whole lot left to remove if they keep getting infected.

I can't believe I'm actually kinda psyched to see someone have both their legs chopped off, but Kelly's insanity is so powerful it's contagious. For anyone who still feels sorry for her, she had this coming and it's 100% her fault. She picked giant, bone-deep wounds into her legs not once, but twice. Not too long ago she got skin grafts that were healing perfectly, until she was home and returned to her old ways, quickly undoing everything those doctors did for her. She had to have known those grafts were her last chance, but she squandered it. The medical professionals did absolutely everything they could to help her, but there's no fixing someone who doesn't want to be fixed.

This story also proves that even she if she does have dermatillomania, it is not extreme enough for this. Nobody with compulsions strong enough to do that to themselves could stop for two weeks in the hospital. If she had a fraction of the self-control that would take, she could have at least moved to other spots so her wound could heal.

I deal with this and have a hard time believing she has it. Her demeanor, the rubbing shit into the wounds (there was some lab analysis that found fecal bacteria in the wound, so she sure as fuck wasn't keeping it clean), the posting pictures of it, it all stinks (literally). Dermatillomaniacs aren't proud of what we do, it's a compulsion (much more like OCD than cutting) and most of us know it's nasty and self-destructive. With treatment, lots of people are able to mitigate the compulsions or even stop completely. I started with my fingertips because of childhood nail-biting, but after a couple years got tired of constantly having tiny wounds all over my hands (half because people noticed and half because I like touching things) and moved to my toes. It's very possible to spread out the damage, moving to a different digit when one gets bad enough. I mention this because Kelly and I both fixate on picking at specific body parts, but where I branched out over time and learned how use disinfectant to avoid ever having serious damage, infections, etc, she doubled down. The area she picked at actually decreased in size, which is when she started have those awful wounds that couldn't heal because they were too big and deep. She is absolutely lucid enough to have at least modified her habits enough to avoid losing her legs. If she wasn't, they would have been able to do more when she was in a psychiatric institution (I'm not sure how this works in Canada but where I live they hold you for a couple days and then evaluate if you're stable enough to leave. If not they extend your stay.), and they would have put her on antipsychotics or something years ago. Not that she isn't crazy, but if someone can film themselves self-harming they probably aren't dissociating. Again, if she was this uncontrollably psychotic, those grafts would have been gone in two minutes, not two weeks.

I fucking hate when people cry "I was hacked!" when they get caught posting something embarrassing. It's so irritating that it actually fools people sometimes.

Like how easy it would have been to get the culture, Rx the wrong antibiotics or just really weak doses, and let nature take its course.

That is really, really unethical, as in "get fired, lose license/cert, maybe go to prison" unethical. Yes unscrupulous people still do it and get away with it, but it's seriously shitty to do to somebody even when seemingly "deserve" it. If you're willing to intentionally fuck up somebody's medical care, no matter the reason, you don't belong in healthcare.
