Playing on coop with the boss dialed in to look and dress just like me always got the best reactions and screenshots from my irl friends.
I've never done co-op in Saints Row. I loved the solo experience. Which I have to give props to Volition for. They've made a game that could be played either way without a disadvantage.

Favorite game?
:biggrin::heart-full::biggrin:

Favorite character?
Dex as seen in SR1. The straight man to Johnny's insanity, the Saints' rash aggressiveness, and the brains behind most of the operation.

It's a complete disservice what they did to him in SR2 characterwise. Not because I don't like the fact he's set up as the next main antagonist in SR2's secret mission, but because how vague they are about his motivations both for dropping his flags (Ultor was nothing but a clothing company in SR1, hardly worth it even if Dex knew the saints had a mole) and deciding to eradicate his former mentor and friends. For a guy who was meticulous and couldn't stop himself from outlining every part of his plans to those who'd listen, it screams rushed writing that he does a 180 and goes silent. Not his MO.

Honorable mention to Pierce as seen in SR2. The way he tries to become the boss' right hand man yet is always one-upped or ignored for a much more direct and violent plan never ceases to mark a grin on my face every playthrough.

Best Girl?
Aisha. Anyone who can put a leash on Johnny has to be either badass or amazing in the sack.

should Nintendo front the money to port over Saints Row 1 and 2 or at least, remake them in line with Saints Row 3-4?
Nintendo would never do any of those things.

Although you would think that in a landscape where GTA hasn't dropped a new entry in 8 years and counting, that someone would drop a criminal open-world game worthy of continuing and carrying the subgenre, but they all stopped; Saints Row, True Crime, etc.

You've missed out, playing coop on speaker phone with your friend's girlfriend and a room full of people while you are both naked in a cut scene together stumbling down a corridor covered in alien embryonic jizz while the room roars with laughter was amazing.

Only showing the coop cut scene with your character and not the partner was 3's biggest oversight that was fixed in 4

Not really. I enjoy playing these types of games by myself. I get to have my own structured chaos.

Volition have got to be one of the most underrated developers, I loved the first 2 Red Faction games as well.

What's interesting about them is their inspirations are obvious (Half-Life with Red Faction, GTA with Saints Row) but they're the only dev that really go for it as far as making something that's obviously similar to some other popular game but is not at all a pale imitation and actually brings something worthy to the table, no other dev has quite that same MO, they might imitate, but Volition puts the same amount of gusto in their imitation that someone would in an all new game.

In addition to that their games just had a refreshingly straight forward, unpretentious vibe, they're a "video game" video game developer and they own it, just good clean fun the kind of which has become all too rare these days.

At least all that used to be the case, I've not played a game of theirs since Saints Row 4 (has it really been 8 years already?) and Agents of Mayhem looked lame and I never bothered, it remains to be seen where they go from here, but they were cool at least in the past.

It's weird that subgenre of game dried up to be honest.

Honestly, it's all entirely down to the fact that Saints Row died out due to the one-two punch that was Gat Out of Hell and that failed Agents of Mayhem spinoff/stealth reboot and the fact that Rockstar got too bogged down with GTA Online.

Sleeping Dogs was originally a True Crime sequel but Square Enix had decided that it should be a one-off game, so that's pretty much a dead end too.

Had GTA Online not ruined everything, the genre would probably still be going along since it was all intrinsically tied to the GTA series in one way or another.

The fact that the genre is expensive to develop for, especially in this day and age probably doesn't help matters either.

You'd think someone would try to get a slice of that pie but I'm sure the failure of APB also helped salt the Earth.

I never did play Gat Out of Hell, what's supposed to be wrong with it? I think for me coming out over a year after 4 but essentially being DLC made me not care, that's too long a time table for DLC.

My idea for a Saints Row 5 by the way is to have a Zelda style "light world/dark world" thing going on with one map taking place in the real world and being more like 2, but then you can also hop into a virtual version of the city and it's 4 style mayhem.

I feel like it's just really barren on story, even by Saints Row standards. The game doesn't really have missions, the whole game is activities. You fill up a "progress bar" that shows how much "anger" Satan has with all the activities you do and when it's fully filled you have a boss fight with him. That's essentially the whole game.

It's pretty much a mini-Saints Row 4 with many of the same mechanics. There's a few new weapons like a chair that has miniguns on it but that's about it. Everything is largely reskinned from SR4 to be Heaven/Hell themed. No customization for Johnny either.

Did anyone else play Saints Row 1 multiplayer? I want to dig up footage of that game with voice chat audio because oh my god the wigger energy was off the charts.

I have to admit that Saints Row 4 did have a slight nod to and influenced by Idiocracy. When the game came out, I remember they were making jokes out of making custom made Donald Trump-like characters years after the game was getting a slight popularity due to people not wanting to play Gat out of Hell:

President Camacho was clearly inspiration for the fourth installment. Though, it just so happens that aliens and living in an alternate world was something that most people would not expect:

I did, I made my character look like Vanilla Ice as much as I could, I remember one guy's custom character was a fat dude in a white pimp coat, a huge blue afro and I think he was only wearing boxer shorts under his coat.

I did, very late in its lifespan. Around 2018 about. Protect the Pimp was the most popular game mode. Basically, it's protect the leader but the leader is a pimp with a one hit melee attack. Kill the pimp or the hitmen to win.

A personal favorite mode of mine is Blinged Out Ride. You get a car and you have to deliver it to a garage and back to your base without it being destroyed to win. First team to four upgrades or the largest upgrade before time runs out wins.

Unfortunately, it's not very populated. When I DO get a match, I get steamrolled by veterans.

It's really amazing nobody has tried to muscle in. There's definitely something to be grabbed at this point.

I really with Saints Row would have went through with an actual reboot instead of...whatever the hell Agents of Mayhem was supposed to be.

Whoa, people were still playing it at all as late as 2018? That's mind blowing.

It's really weird that a reboot is not what they did.

Especially when the first game isn't on pc and most of the players I know of got the later games on a good steam sale and fell in love but haven't played 1 at all.

The whole ending of Saints Row 1 affected the rest of the series.

One animation mishap had made the whole series change course. Interesting.

Did you ever try Red Faction: Guerilla? Very fun open-world game. Just pretend Armageddon doesn't exist and everyone lives happily ever after when you finish. Its also an open-world game, with lots of EXPLOSIONS.

I did, it was interesting but seemed longer than I was wanting to devote the time to it at the time, I put it down intending to come back to it, but simply haven't gotten around it yet.

One of these days though.

The game is backwards compatible on new Xbox systems, but it's still surprising that there are people holding on. I quit playing around late 2008 because I started to notice the population going down even back then. A lot of people moved on to others games like CoD and R6 Vegas, and some made the move to Saints Row 2 which had completely different modes and mechanics which I personally wasn't a fan of + they went away with built in clans and leaderboards in favor of using a third party service that was ran by Gamespy iirc lol.

Blinged Out Ride was such an underrated mode. Even back in SR1's peak not many played it, Protect Tha Pimp was always the "standard" mode that was played competitively, and iirc because matches of PTP were shorter than other modes, you could earn money faster to buy stupid crap for your character. Owning a pimp coat and platinum jewelry was like a right of passage since it told everyone else you had no life and grinded for hours.
