I hate Ocarina of Time, mostly because I played the majority of it in the hospital after a surgery. But even without that, it’s a slow game, the transition from child to adult in the middle is sooo long, the camera is constantly making it hard to see where you need to go in some of the dungeons, and some of the sidequests are long and tedious for no reason - at least nowadays, the mask quest would have an achievement attached to it,
Oh thank heavens, I thought I was alone in this regard.
I admit, I might have been spoiled by playing Link To The Past and Link's Awakening, but Ocarina of Time was as then as today being Skyrim. Ocarina of Time was praised to shit when I grew up, and as soon as I got my hands on it.... "This is it?"
There's so much fucking padding, even for a 1997 game, not even fucking Super Mario 64 was this padded out. Battle is overly simplistic and everything in this game is a fucking puzzle. Immersion is also an extreme shitshoot and a half; hey, you know how I can get over these big ass blocks in other games? Jumping over them or on them without prompts. I swear, any diehard I've met who loves too much this incarnation of Zelda tends to be a pretentious know it all faggot. There were so many other games that were funner, more engaging, and had more charm and class than this piss ass tepid watered down fantasy experience. Even Majora's Mask appears to be a greater step up.
Final Fantasy VI. I don't so much hate this game, as so much as I've always hated its fanbase that surrounds it. I've always found however that its story is highly, supremely, greatly overrated and overblown than its ever worth to be, its gameplay is also some of the best examples of basic RPG stuff, and its cast of characters cannot save it from itself utilizing Final Fantasy's fever dream like mystique at its worst. Yeah, I said it.
When it comes down to it, even for the time VI came out, there were so many other games that did the JRPG/fantasy genre great. You have Live-A-Live, Chrono Trigger, Tales of Phantasia, Seiken Densetsu 3, Valis, Vay, Lunar, Popful Mail, Phantasy Star, Ys, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma, EVO: The Search For Eden, Shin Megami Tensei, fuck there were even good RPGs based on actual anime like Sailor Moon and Tenchi Muyo!. VI is like a drop in the bucket compared to these massive splashes in the video game world, and yet, it's praised like no end.
And you know what? Let's get to the meat of this problem. The fans. It's wrong of me to broadly paint every fan of VI as awful, yes, but every dipshit I've had the misfortune of encountering who had VI at the top of their list always ended up being some insufferable smarmy smartass asshole loser who made me wonder if they could live offline without getting their teeth smashed in. I'd say that Final Fantasy VI suffers from some of the greatest amount of hype backlash because its western fanbase are like old school anime hipster mainstream sucker faggot diehards who whine about how nothing is catering to their consoomer asses: they were only ever exposed to VI as III because not just Final Fantasy but the entire other plethora of JRPGs were never brought outwest and are on some massive high of ass huffing smug and nerd entitlement.
Also, just because VI makes references to The Divine Comedy and classical entertainment doesn't mean that it's "smart". Try the meaning of life, the power of hatred, the struggles of actually growing up, the nature of morality, humanity's place in both time and existence, and what it means to be a true hero. Fuck Final Fantasy VI.
