Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

So the PBS show Arthur has ended.

I wonder if there were too many non-woketards working on it. Probably had the gay marriage episode as a compromise to culture wars, at which point it was already damaged goods, and they wanted more ass-kissing to non-whites and homos/troons...so the non-woketards ended up smothering it with a pillow.

Netflix producing another crappy-looking "animated sitcom" based on a Twitter account you haven't heard of with 50k followers.

The account itself appears to be half ads and half random nothingness.

Excuse me while I vomit.

This account was probably created for the sole purpose of being used as the "inspiration" for a series I bet, and SON OF A BITCH

I never agreed with the whole calarts=shit opinion, but I have to say that Rayna person is onto something. They really do all look similar. Way more than most calarts shows do to one another too.
It’s less the CalArts argument and more of the same argument that’s been around since the days of Family Guy and South Park; adult cartoons being uniformly ugly and/or bland to go along with being vulgar comedy. As much as people have explained it to me, it’s a trend I still can’t wrap my head around completely.

In other news, it appear Muppet Babies of all things had a gender variant episode.
Yeesh. And then there’s a new live action Velma Dinkley series that maybe shaping up to be CW tier.

Oh right, Nu Muppet Babies was a thing. Eh I was more of a Fraggle Rock sort of guy in the 90's.

BTW, the guy who made the Muppet Babies reboot, is also the same guy who created Codename: Kids Next Door....

Let that sink in for a moment.....

So how DO they explain it? I'm guessing that's a combination of who works on it, and needs it to be churned out so they can talk about what's on the news cycle.

One thing I've noticed that Family Guy lacks any sort of straight man (in the comedy sense)/voice of reason. Everyone is either a punching bag (metaphorically or physically) or a "zany" sociopath. South Park at least used to have it (not sure now), and I'm sure these other cretinous creations lack it.

Thing is, FG used to have a straight man in the form of Brian, but of course he went off the rails after the writers turned him into their mouthpiece, so now he's a combination of the two types you mentioned. On the one hand, there's episodes like "The D in Apartment 23" where he's more a victim to the crazy, fucked-up world of the show, but then you get episodes like "Be Careful What You Fish For", where he's far more on the sociopath side of things.

I wanna give him the benefit of the doubt say he only took it cause he needed the job and had nothing to do with that episode.

In other news Jellystone dropped on HBO max. So far it lools ok, the animation looks not very good but not all that bad either just run of the mill easy to digest for kids (or smooth brained man children) and of course there's troon jabberjaw. It isn't blatantly obvious "she" used to be a he (afaik so far) if it hadn't been going around on Twitter last month I'd just assume it's a "new" character aka they took jabberjaw and gave him a sister but really it's just the jabberjaw model with long eyelashes. But there's no troon pride flag in his window or nothing like that..really if you can block out the whole "yes that is jabberjaw with a girl voice" it's a nice show to get wasted or stoned to and enjoy while buzzed

Most shows with really progressive articles written about them tend to not dwell on those elements much in-show. I prefer to just tuck in and see for myself if it's true or not...or I would if HBO Max was a thing in the UK.

A number of the classic H-B characters have been gender swapped in the new series - none of them truly big names, though. This was, evidently, necessary because there were barely any female characters in the original shorts - Cindy Bear, yes, and Winsome Witch and Granny Sweet, but who else?

Also Peter Potamus in this series is a weeaboo and the Banana Splits are criminals.

(There are a number of very obscure H-B series referenced. I leave it to someone else to pick them all out.)

Honestly a step up from being FNAF rip offs.

And I should have known this was a case of simple gender swaps rather than actual transgenderism; it’s reminder of that shitty fandom “joke” from Transformers. People annoyed at this change have pointed out there’s some more female characters they could have used but eh, so far seems to be not too bad.

That happens in this series, but it's the Cattanooga Cats instead.

The female characters they can use have definitely been used. I can think of problems otherwise - there's three women in the H-B canon who are very much off limits.

So is the new Transformers animated show on Netflix just a remake of beast wars. I haven't watched it, but I see transformers turning into animals again.
