Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

But they can't go back. That's the problem. Once you decide the govt has the authority to tell you what to do with your body MBMC dies. It isn't selective. It doesn't matter that abortions aren't contagious. It being contagious is immaterial to the legal argument. That's the problem I'm having with steel manning that particular position. It doesn't matter when life begins, it doesn't matter if this was The Black Plague. If the goverment can force you to do something to your body than they can prevent you doing something to your body. It's quite literally a two way street.

Yeah, I think it would more likely push a purge and restructure of the military. We cannot mount a competent offensive with trust as low as it is, with the top officials proving the quality of their expertise with a defeat of this magnitude. It would be "we have to get back into fighting shape and resurrect a clear moral vision for America." If we get into a war now, with the people in charge still at the top, we would just have another 20-year defeat.

They just move the goalposts around. Every Trump quote was anonymously sourced by people in his administration, whereas the people who saw Biden do what he did have put their names and faces out there. But suddenly we need video proof. If we have video proof, it's "manipulated media" because they cut a second out of the video.

They did not "decide" the case via shadow docket. There is no one to issue an injunction against until a proper lawsuit is brought. Even the liberal dissents admitted this. That's it. When there is someone who can say they were harmed by the law, it will definitely be heard by SCOTUS. But a stay/injunction would just confuse people and not be binding precedent, so they are going to focus on clean cases that can actually sketch out whether the enforcement mechanism of the Texas law is allowed.

Really, only conservative judges should be on the Court. I say this because they all have actual legal philosophies that guide them, whereas the liberals are only about "living Constitutions" and preserving liberal policies. If we just appointed actual textualists, it would force the legislative and executive to follow the letter of the law and stop usurping powers they don't have. But that's just me.

This is why I can't truly hate Mitch McConnell. He's a snake and a turtle, but he had a long game for the courts and seized the opportunity that Obama left by leaving so many positions unfilled. Then Trump gave him the opportunity to get three new judges on SCOTUS. They are in an even better position now because they have a sizable back bench of reliable conservative judges on the lower levels that are ready to be promoted. It's smart strategy, and we need similar single-mindedness when it comes to cleaning out other departments. Long march through the institutions, baby.

They don't understand that. That is something Gehenna has pointed out multiple times. Liberals and Dems can only see one step in front of them. So "Ending the plague" is a "NOW" problem. Realizing that they surrendered on My Body My Choice is a "Later" problem.

If you leave liberals to their own devices long enough, they will eventually build their own prison, willingly walk inside, lock the door and throw away the key thinking that they were free.

Trump's ideal withdrawal was to leave the embassy there and have our puppet government in kabul coexist with the shadow government of the Taliban running rest of the country.

This is like human genetic drift or idk what to call it, a giant displacement of folks all over the damn place during a so called deadly pandemic.

Taliban don't believe in lockdowns and don't care about heterosexual age differences in marriage or forcing the jab on people and generally believe in two genders.

Military is risk averse to the point of paralysis, like all other American leadership. Yes, that's clearly the right call, but what if it was the wrong thing to do? What if someone asked who was paying for those helicopters? What if it upset the Taliban?

Better to just not make any decisions at all, you can't get in trouble if you do nothing, right?
