I remember when they added needless gay cosmetics to the game everyone dressed up in white desert robes with abyssal whips to roleplay as ku klux klan members and protest politics in vidya. The powerless user jannies would sit around in Falador muting all the klansmen, even if they didn't say anything, because that's all they could do.

edit: and no im not kidding

I wish there was a live stream of it archived somewhere. I would love to sit back, get comfy, and watch the autism pop from my screen.

the pure combined autism of the people have gotten the plugin released on monday, if only because they forced more than 100k likes worth of shit to the front page twice. unless they had a sun tzu level PR strategist i doubt they considered ever having to deal with something like this from a single runelite graphics mod.

I remember one of THE most fucked up images on the internet is tied to this game.

There was a boy who was strangled and cut in half with a handsaw over this game. And the killer tried to wrap the body in plastic and stuff it in the attic of the house, but got caught when the victims parents came home.

That whole story is so fucked and the pictures are NSFL

This was a response to gay pride I think.

A fuck ton of accounts were banned that day.

I made the RS thread for the gaming subforum

But I haven't touched RS since they required you to complete A Night at the Theatre to get your quest cape which is bullshit

Wanted that shit for years as a kid and finally got it as a man then they make me learn raid shit to get it back

Then I hear about this bullshit they did to the HD project, glad I haven't been back

Damn man I feel old. Back when I was 12 or 13 I played for a while. There was a player named zazema that was top player. Me and a friend were playing on the same server as he was, and other players were going wild. I definitely remember someone asking zazema to have their baby amongst other funny shit. Players swarmed the guy, it was the most people I've ever seen in drainor village at one time.

I saw Zezima twice in my life; once north of the maple trees by the Seer's village, another time cooking at the fire in that thieving test thing.

Speaking of: the fire in that area was only a few tiles from the bank. This made it so you could get your food, left click in inventory, the left click fire to cook them all faster than anywhere.

So, one guy made a character named Fire Sitter. It was a level 3 character that had nothing but 99 fire making and the cape. All it did was stand on that fire and randomly emote. Why? Because that way you can't left click the fire. You have to right click the fire sitter and find the fire on the menu to cook your food.

This sounds harmless but it makes the process 50% more click intensive and much more pointer precise. It really, really, really pissed people off.

They perm banned people for wearing the white robes, but the best part was the conveniently had a "free membership week" event going on at the same time. So you could get banned, make a new account, buy a new set of robes for 5k and go back.

That was in brazil and it was about a game called "tibia". I found this though: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/spurned-maniac-who-flew-america-4670613
summary: man meets 13 year old girl on runescape and by the time she's 18 rejects him for a relationship. He flies to the UK, breaks into her house at night and tries to stab her to death.

Check out https://archive.openrs2.org/, they have every available cache and the XTEAs for maps.
Thank you, I found that too - but I'm just having trouble putting an old revision's object data into my current revision ( 468 -> 498 ). It always gives me invalid XTEA errors no matter what I try, even if I copy the XTEA decrypting code out of the client that matches the map revision, it still fails. I also don't know where to actually make use of the XTEA keys themselves.

I would get the xteas working before trying to change the data, and there's plenty of examples on rune-server of 474 era servers that are released for free. I believe the xteas are sent to the client during the map region packet and it does the decryption on that side.

I had a friend , a forget what they called them now, but he like many players thought it would be cool to train only one skill. It was cooking. I think he got to level 80 or something in it on a free account.

Sweet, I'll take a look into that, it sounds like the server sending XTEAs to the client is one of the parts I was missing.

Edit:
I figured it out thanks to you:

I know for certain I encountered Zezima a few times back in the day as well. Wasn't really hard to miss him considering he'd be constantly followed by screeching autists.

If you've got multiple accounts running at the same time and you sell the gp you can make so much money its literally a legal money printer.
Very true, OSRS can actually be very lucrative if you have the knowledge, time and capitol to start up a bot farm or multilog really efficiently.
