11/13 Paris Terror Attacks

At least 18 are dead after a series of explosions and shootings. There have been at least 4 separate, but coordinated incidents.

CNN also just announced that there are also 60 hostages being held in a theater.

Update: More than 128 dead. We got a new rating. Basically, everything went fucky.

Given the large number of casualties, it is likely that ISIS will claim responsibility for the attacks as a PR maneuver. The attacks also showcase a new tactic that could be utilized in major cities. Large, coordinated assaults that are planned via TOR/Darknet and will stretch first responders across a wide area. Reports from victims in The Bataclan stated that it took approximately 3 hours before police reached their location, and Paris is a major metropolis with a large police and ambulatory force. Given the success of this attack, an attack within a major city in the US is likely and expected.

They're more likely to go for another European capital first in my opinion. My guess would be Rome or London.

Why the fuck would Basque separatists go after France? They tend to go for Spanish targets.
Basque separatists have the backing necessary to orchestrate such a brutal attack. Muslims wouldn't have the resources or connections available to Basque separatists. Also Basque separatists want land spanning much of Iberia, not just Spain.

The discussion has held itself together so far very well despite this being an event that understandably makes people upset.
However, it's good to be reminded of the Events&News standards and Vitriol's post :

if we can keep immigration chatter to the migrant thread and islams chatter to the islam thread I'd be much obliged.
Like with School shootings use this thread to discuss the event itself and the media around it.

They're also more willing to go after democratic solutions now. Islamic terrorists have the motives (Burqa ban, the fact France doesn't cater to their every whim, French involvement in Syria) as well as the means. This was planned on phones apparently, and they used suicide bombings and AKs. Not exactly cutting edge tech. The Schengen zone also helps matters.

Hell, the IRA could pull this kind of shit off in the 70's.

The UK or possibly Australia is next. I think they'd attack Canada before the U.S given these countries despite having great military are already under manned with other missions.

PS our Prime Minister is already pledging a couple mil to bring refugees here. Easy for a sleeper cell to slip in.

Yeah I'd see the UK being the next target. As it's kind of a stepping stone to the US which would act as psychological warfare as well. Plus both France and the UK have a growing fascist contingent. The aim is to radicalise more moderates for their jihad. If ISIS could turn Bradford, Oldham and Leicester, it would be fucking pandemonium.

Or Barry.

I've no doubt that eventually Australia will be hit with a terrorist attack. But I think that it's much, much more likely to be conceived, planned, and carried out by home grown heroes than it will be internationally planned and directed. Australia is too small population wise to warrant intense focus by the international organisation. Not saying that Australia isn't involved up to its neck overseas, but from a large scale perspective, Europe and America are the ones that ISIS wants most to hurt by far.

ISIS
CLAIMED
RESPONSIBILITY

Age old adage when it comes to trolling : if you think someone's trolling with posting that could be very well interpreted as genuine opinions, just ignore them, toss them in the gear grinder and move on. Responding will just feed them and clutter the thread as it becomes just a chain of responses between the troll and the thread. So I'd advise to just leave it unless there's content that breaks the rules, then report it.

If they're trolling, the troll will flail around like an idiot until they realize nobody's responding to them.

Plus Australia don't fuck about when it comes to immigration.
