Also, now that I'm back in a hotel for the night, I have a chance to sit down and put together some actual responses opposed to the partial and short ones via my phone.
To answer the burning question that all too many people have been asking, "What were you expecting to happen?", I have this to say.
I was not expecting anything more than I go, or more aptly, the limited response I actually got is more than I expected. My expectation was that there would be no response, despite the cars being there. Or more likely, one response of being told to leave or the cops were being called. We all know how he presents himself in person, as proven by a number of people so far, he's timid in real life.
It would have been -nice- to get a chance to meet him face to face and explain what the gift was, possibly even offer him some REAL human interaction that's not just via his mother and the rest of his life that he has going on around him. Which admittedly, is not much, but my point remains. Perfect world situation, I'd have somehow been able to get him to accept the gifts, I wouldn't expect a 'thank you', because it's not really how he is, especially since I'm male, but whatever. Fuck, I'd have offered to go treat him for food/drinks if it meant that I could have a conversation. I'd even settle for buying him a lego set if it means further communication.
Sure, take it for weening if you want, but even trying to interact with him is a story in and of itself.
This whole trip, going a couple of hours out of my way to see the world that Chris has grown up in, it's a tourist attraction to me. Right on par with the rest of the wonders of the natural world, because this place blows my mind. There's so much there, there's so much to do, so many cool places to see or visit. But we have Chris, in this shallow little existence of his, oblivious to everything and everyone. To have been around from the early days of CWC to where it is now, I wouldn't exactly say that it's a dream come true, but it's like being offered the chance to go to Disney world. Only thing being, that when you go to Disney, the only ride you can go on, is 'Its a small world', and the animatronics have been replaced with smelly bums. Shit sucks, but at least I got to go to Disney!
Somewhat off-topic, if people do go and make the cwcville tour loop, make some time to go swing by the Monticello in Charlottesville. That was a pretty cool stop and place to visit before continuing on to where I am in Virginia for the rest of the week.
There's been plenty of them over the years, we don't need more until he has it cut off.
