Ah, Dresden Codak. I used to really like that comic... I think because I misunderstood Diaz's intentions a little.
See, I always assumed he meant Kimiko to come off as a huge giant bitch that deserved most of the misery she got. That her obsession with technology and the Singularity were not necessarily positive traits, that her rejection of humanity was foolish and a sign of immaturity, and that the way she treated her friends was supposed to be shameful and disgusting. I just assumed she was meant to be a deeply, deeply flawed character who would learn her lesson when faced with the reality of what she supposedly wanted. But then the stupid science-city arc started and no, she's still the same bitch but apparently she's now much more reasonable and grounded than everyone else because he populated the city with science-morons. Apparently her being nasty and dismissive to everyone is supposed to prove how smart and sciencey she is, or whatever, and anyone that doesn't appreciate that is some dumb jock who likes sportball.
Basically I assumed he was deliberately writing a flawed wreck of a human being who had lots of room to develop into something more. Apparently he was just writing his ideal waifu Mary Sue (because fuck you Diaz she is). At least back when I was reading and enjoying the comic I could mostly ignore how absolutely moronic his personal politics were... now that the comic became unreadable, his retarded personal politics are all there is to him.
I will give him credit for two things, though: the alternate prehistory comic (which I enjoyed even if it's not as original a concept as he thinks it is), and the Caveman Science Fiction comic (which is still one of the better critiques of the luddism inherent in a lot of science fiction).
