AI Art Seething General

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Also, 3D AI generation already exists. I don't know what the quality or usability is like as I don't do 3D stuff but it is definitely out there.
No matter the outrage towards AI, as soon as there is a highly competent retopology tool, both the industry and hobbyists will use it. I don't do a lot of art, but by god no matter how much I deal with 3D modeling, I hate the process of retopology.

What AntiAI people also don't seem to realize is that had AI not exist (ie before 2022), people would just rip photos from Google Images and stitch them together for whatever use case they have (probably still do actually). And when it comes to monetization, scams are still king in that department of using peoples' work to sell it on redbubble or wherever.

I mean, I still do that, now I just do it as the first phase for an AI generation using other AI generations rather than stealing from someone. From what I understand, if you transform enough of the original generations you can in fact copyright the final product. One of the only times I will use copyright as a gottcha.

Someone sent this anti-AI song to me on Discord and I can't stop laughing at it:

Oh lmao this is good.

The Adobe lines are bizarre. There is no such thing as "Adobe Studio" and there is no commercial software by Adobe to train AI, so this is literally just something they made up. The (admittedly shitty) predatory subscription sucks, but has nothing to do with AI and has been there for quite a few years before AI art. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that as usual antis have zero clue what they are talking about or how it works and just regurgitate any negative memes they find online.

I had to go see if the rest of the song was available, so here's their whole "performance" from July 2024 at some relatively small furry convention in Utah, including this "song":

Sure enough wouldn't you know it: they are only a cover band with no original music. The absolute balls to have such a massive double standard is incredible. They take someone else's song without permission, fuck around with the lyrics, then play it in the background as they bounce around on stage and call it their own -- but if you do the same with visual art, that's evil and you are basically Hitler. I wonder if they realize this and are doing it just because they know that any kind of "anti-AI" statement will be cheered regardless of anything else, or if they genuinely don't realize why this is contradictory to their message.

Edit to avoid double post:

Guess I answered my own question at the end by looking at the comments, because of course, the most liked replies to the performance is praising the anti-AI song. No thought, they hear "AI bad" and cheer.

And even better, they are planning on publishing these songs, that they directly copied and used without consent from the creator, on Spotify for a profit:

I wonder if any major AI started claiming it is "parody" how people would react.

I'm not going to pretend like I understand what the possible implications are further down the road, I just appreciate how easy it is to make good enough character portraits for shit like Tabletop Simulator. In a couple years it might be able to do 3D models (because fuck Hero Forge for charging $8 to do that)
Meshy ai can do 3d pretty well for image to 3d for low detail and chibi stuff. I've got a model of nulls head somewhere it just needs retopology. Most everything else I've tried on it has been a mess that isn't worth the time to fix.

Hero forge does have a free alternative, but I think someone stopped making assets for it. That 8 dollars you're paying for is a nice UI and shit not breaking off into a void. I used to just do a bunch of kit bashing in blender with free thingsiverse assets

The delulu levels are off the charts with this one.
I mean they can "poison" all they want. The fact of the matter is, like content moderation, training generative models requires selection and classification of that data before it is even trained.

Oh the amount of times I've stitched, recolored and morphed images for an artist to then draw together as a new image, only to completely fucking fail it after spending 3 months putting it off.

Yeah I'd take some spergy gooner with an AI that could give me 50 versions in a few hours and $20.

Twitterfags deserve the rope. AI won't give you shit for no reason or play dumb when looking for general inspiration and collaboration to work off of a base idea. Something those ebegging fucks and their botted followings will never care about and continue to be just as forgettable as most other trend chasers of the day while pining for "the good ol days" and continuing to be the very same retards that caused them to end.

I like how they don't realize just how over it is.

I don't know specifically what they're against here, but it always tends to be generating pictures of whatever. That's basically an entirely solved problem with AI. There are local models that can generate absolutely anything, and if they can't generate something, you can locally train your own lora to do it. They can freak out and flood the zone and poison as much as they want, but they can't affect closed systems that can already do nearly anything imaginable.

TLDR: guy AI generated the face on the left, with a prompt, selected it and prompted a bunch more shit on top of it, until he got the one on the right. The copyright lawyers threw it out, but it just won on appeals. Setting the bar for "enough human input to qualify for copyright" extremely low, to the point pretty much anything except just submitting the exact thing it shits out, after it's given the initial prompt, is probably good to go.
