I am reviving this thread!
You were a weapon, a bringer of death. And now, you're nothing. They will keep on killing you, again and again. They are your future – an eternity of slow painful deaths. That is, if you don't pull yourself together, get out of prison. Kill the Jailer. Fight for your freedom. The Jailer is the key - kill him, and you'll be free.
But what to do? You have no idea how to fight them, or even where they are. There's no way you can escape this place.
> You check around your cell.
You slowly turn your head to the side. You see that the wall here is cracked, leading to a small hole. Maybe you can squeeze through it. But then, what if you can't get out? What if they put you in a dark, empty cell?
> You try to squeeze through the hole.
Slowly, you slide to the side, forcing your body to squeeze through the two-inch-wide crack. It feels as if your skin is being torn from your bones, but eventually, your head pokes through the hole.
> You keep squeezing through until you come out on the other side.
You're not sure how, but you're able to slide your body back into your cell. But how will you get out of here? The hole is too small for you to fit through. You look around, hoping you see something you can use.
Then, you spot it. The Jailer has left his keys right where you can grab them! You reach through the bars, trying to grab them, and succeed. Then, you carefully and slowly work to slide the key into the door's lock.

> You open the cell door and carefully creep out of your cell.
Slowly but surely, you slide the key into the lock. The lock makes a grating noise as it unlocks. You take a deep breath, then open the door just enough to slip through it. Suddenly, you find yourself in an entirely different room.
The door closes behind you with a click, and you look around. There's a table off to the side with food on it. A bunch of tattered, mildewed blankets are piled up in another corner. This must be where the Jailer eats!
> You keep looking around.
You creep over to the blanket pile, taking one of the blankets out and wrapping it around yourself. Then, you look around some more. There's no way out of this room from where you are, so you head back to the food table and sit down in one of the chairs.

Turns out, there's a hidden button on the table you accidentally press. Pressing it causes part of the wall behind you to slide open, revealing a passageway

> You go through the passageway.
The passageway leads to a massive underground cave system. It's pitch black, so you fling yourself at another wall and cling to it like a limpet as your eyes adjust to the darkness. You wait for several minutes until your eyes have adjusted enough to make out your surroundings.
The cave you're in is covered from end to end with neat rows of orange shelves filled with bottles of all shapes and sizes. They all appear to be full of some kind of liquid. This looks like... It's a wine cellar!
> You examine the wine.
You reach out and pick up one of the bottles, examining the shape and weight of it in your hands. It doesn't seem particularly special, but you've never seen anything like this before, so you have no reference point.
> You keep looking around.
There's not much else to do in this cave, so you head back up towards the light at the top of the cave and continue forward into the passageway beyond it. It quickly leads into another room, which appears to be filled with machinery.
It's very complex, and you don't have a clue as to what any of it does. There are also three figures sitting in chairs nearby watching a screen that's too small to make out what's on it.
> You sneak through the room, trying to not catch the figures' attention.

As quietly as you can, you sneak across the room and stop behind one of the figures, hoping he doesn't notice you. You then move in close enough to hear what he's saying without him hearing you as well. "What?" one says on the screen.
"The facility is not due for another month." "The Kyros scum are earlier than expected," another one says in the tone of a broken record. "They launched an assault on our ships a week ago." "They can't have gotten too many men up there,"
a third says. "We've sent a company up there to hold back the hordes of slaves and the rat mutants." "It's the scum that master sent us," the first man says bitterly. "The hordes will destroy them within days.
The... the mutants will." He stops talking, then starts again. "The mutants will eat them," he says quietly. "They'll be dead within a week.
We just need to wait.
The Techpriests have everything under control.
They'll fix everything.
They always do." The third man shrugs slightly. "Do what you want. I'm going for a walk.
You stay here and keep an eye on things." The second man nods. "I will. Good luck with her.

> You sneak out of the room, as you've heard enough.
You creep back along the passageway towards the room with the wine bottles. There's a door there that you think might lead outside, but there's also a button next to it that looks interesting.
> You press the button.
A voice from above says "Poison gas deployed. Plant life is losing color. Maintaining concentration." In the next room, you hear glass smashing and a yelp, then nothing but silence.
> You go through the door.

You open the door and step outside, finding yourself in a large, grassy field surrounded by mountains. You can see a metal gate off in the distance, clearly where you need to be. It seems almost impossible that you've escaped from such a place.
> You run towards the gate.
As you run across the field, something lurches out from the grass at you from the right, a long arm smacking into the ground as a pair of mismatched eyes peer at you from the low-lying plants.
> You run as fast as you can.
The mutant charges towards you as you sprint towards the gate, closing it just ahead of you. The mutant grasps at you as you pass, one of its grabbing hands slamming into your shoulder as the other latches onto your forearm.

> You punch the mutant in the face in an attempt to break free.
You strike out at the creature, but its face is an empty space where its eyes should be, and its arms are longer than those of any normal human.
> You bite at the mutant's arm.
You grab at the creature's arm, managing to snag a hold of one of its fingers, but your arm is wrenched away as its fist slams into your stomach.
> You try to kick the mutant away.

As you attempt to plant your foot into the creature's groin, you only manage to trip yourself over, as the mutant grabs you by the foot and holds your leg tightly.
> You use your other leg to stomp on the creature's hand.
As you plant your foot down onto the hand, you manage to twist yourself around and flip onto your back, knocking the creature off you. The creature manages to grab you by the neck before you though, and begins to squeeze tightly. War!
> You kick wildly behind you.
As you try to kick, your foot slams into the creature's face, and you're able to knock it off of you and back onto the ground. As it scrambles back to its feet, you slam your foot down onto its chest, crushing its ribcage and killing it instantly.
> You go through the metal gate.
You run through the now closed gate as it begins to open once again, and find yourself in a long corridor made of polished concrete. There's a set of stairs on your left leading up to a walkway, which seems to circle some kind of mechanics shop on top.
> You go up the stairs.
You take the stairs up to the walkway, which allows you to quickly circle above the building without having to actually go inside it. You begin to carefully look over the tops of all the buildings around you for any signs of enemies, but see nothing.

> You look at the compound's layout and try to find a way out.
You quickly realize that there's not much point in trying to escape outwards from this compound: if they're moving people through here, they'll just simply bring more people through here as well.
> You go into the mechanics shop.
You step through the door into a shop filled with all manner of machines of all kinds, including the large, complex energy weapons that guards use. There's also an impressive number of actual vehicles, including an impressively large number of patrol boats.
> You take one of the energy weapons and examine it.
You carefully take the weapon apart, putting it back together differently each time so as to ensure that it works properly. After taking it apart again, you realises that there's an override for when the weapon overloads, causing it to fire uselessly.

> You take the weapon and start looking for a way out of the mechanics shop.

There's a door leading outside on the other side of the room, but there's no guarantee that it'll actually let you out, assuming that it even leads anywhere worthwhile.
> You open the door carefully.
You slowly open the door, finding yourself in a dimly lit room filled with even more vehicles, this time of a more mechanical nature. There are several larger vehicles that you assume were probably developed and used for transport, along with multiple multi-legged robots patrolling around them.
> You sneak around the robots.

You creep along the wall, passing between two of the robotic transport vehicles. The robots aren't programmed to move, but if any of them do and they detect movement, they'll immediately begin following said movement until they catch up with whatever it was that moved. This would be very bad for you.
> You look for a way out of this room.
You spot a door on the far side of the room leading into another dimly lit room, and begin sneaking towards it. Unfortunately, as you do so, one of the robotic transport vehicles begins following you.
> You fire your energy weapon at the robot, then run through the door.
You fire your weapon at the robot, destroying a wheel and causing it to stop following you. The robot doesn't appear to be following you in any meaningful way however, just constantly changing direction in order to find whatever it was that moved.
> You go through the door.
As you enter the next room, you're hit in the face by a powerful light source. You raise your hands in defense as your eyes are painfully forced open by the sudden brightness.
You find yourself standing, back pressed against a wall, looking at a man with a stern expression wearing a black suit and tie holding a laser pistol pointed directly at you. "You're a thief," he says in a monotone voice. "Correct?"
> You say nothing.

The man's cold stare continues for a few seconds more, then he raises his gun and levels it at someone else.
A moment later, you hear a gunshot and see the body of a man collapse to the ground. The man in the black suit slowly turns his head to look at where the shot came from, and you see what looks like a large silver box on the wall behind him.
> You shoot the man with your energy weapon while he's not looking.

You quickly raise your energy weapon and fire at the man, but you're not quick enough as he puts up his hand to block the shot, which easily penetrates his defense. He doesn't drop immediately however, and looks back at you with a frown. "You're weak,"
he says simply, before raising his gun and shooting himself in the head.
> You shrug and take his laser pistol.
You grab the man's gun from his body, raising it and aiming it at where you think he was standing. You can hear a low rumble, and footsteps approaching from your right.
> You look to the right.
You pull your head back as the T-103 reaches you. It grabs your head with its claws, forcing it forward as its mouth opens wide to bite down on your neck. The terror is instantaneous and unimaginable as you feel your entire life leave your body in that single second.
> You shove the laser pistol down the T-103's throat and fire.
You pull the trigger of the laser pistol as the T-103 bites down on your head. The bullet fires down the T-103's throat and into its brain, killing it instantly as its mouth releases your head and flails wildly about.

> You shove the T-103 away and look around the room.
You look around the room, noticing that you're in a warehouse-like structure made up of many rooms, all accessible from this central room. You're standing in front of a large wooden door at the front of the room, next to a table on which is sitting a holstered pistol.
> You take the pistol, then go through the wooden door.
You walk through the door, entering a dimly-lit room with several items piled up in it.
You walk over to it, finding that it's a large steamer trunk, chained shut with iron chains. Inside you find a set of extremely filthy clothing, including a dark green tunic, some boots that are falling apart, and a set of coveralls that are covered in stains.
> You keep looking around.
On the other side of the room there's another door, leading into another room. There's also another door on the opposite side of the room, near the entrance. There's no window in the room, which makes it feel even darker than it is.
> You go through the door near the entrance.
As soon as you walk into the next room, you can see that it's some sort of office.

There's a desk covered in papers and a large window behind it giving light to the room. You walk past the desk and look out the window behind it. You're standing on a metal platform overlooking a massive factory.
> You examine the papers.
You pick up a stack of papers from the desk and begin reading them. They appear to be official-looking factory documents, from what you can tell by their formatting and style of writing.
Most of them are financial reports of some kind, but several of them are designs for machinery or other projects that seem to be experimental in nature. Suddenly, an alarm begins ringing throughout the factory, causing people to come running from all over.
> You try to break the window.

You run forward and begin smashing your fists against the large window behind the desk. Several people begin gathering outside watching you in amazement. Suddenly you hear a familiar voice yell at you to stop hitting the window before suddenly pulling your hand away from it and grabbing you by the wrist with surprising strength.
> You turn around.

The man grabs your hand and turns your palm up towards you, revealing your fist has become encased in solid glass! He gives you a smug look, before twisting your arm around and dropping you to the floor.
> You fire your laser pistol at him.
You quickly aim your pistol at the man who encased your fist in glass, firing off a blast of light which sears his face horribly.
He screams in pain, dropping you as he falls back, before quickly rolling into a ball and encasing himself in glass once more before anyone else can attack him.
> You keep shooting him.
The man rolls out of the way as you continue shooting at him, but his movements are becoming more frantic and he can't stop being hit by your shots.
After only a few seconds he explodes into tiny pieces of glass, killing him instantly. That takes care of that, but now what? There's still a factory alarm going off, and you can hear people shouting and running towards your location.
> You fire the pistol at the window.

You fire your laser pistol directly at the large window behind the desk, instantly burning through it and sending splinters of wood flying in all directions. One piece hits someone in the eye, drawing blood and causing him to fall unconscious to the ground. Suddenly there's a new sound...
the sound of heavy machines approaching from far above. They're right outside the window! Somehow they heard the factory alarm going off and they're here to help! You need to think of something fast...
> You run back to the dark room.

You turn around and sprint back into the large room, looking around for somewhere to hide.
> You hide in the large steamer trunk.

You quickly hide inside the trunk, pulling the lid down over the top of you and sealing you in tight. Inside you're completely dark, with not a single ray of light able to shine through, while still being able to move around and take advantage of any potential fight.
> You stay silent and listen for any noise.

There's silence for several minutes, before you hear several people run past outside your hiding place. They must have heard the pistol shots. You wait patiently, before they pass you by. Once sure they've gone, you slowly pull the trunk lid back up and exit out of it's bottom.
> You go back to the office.

You slowly walk back over to the office, walking along walls and over equipment in order to avoid the main part of the factory where people could be hiding. You step into the office once more, finding no one there.
> You try to carefully jump out of the shattered large window behind the desk.

You walk over to the large window behind the desk and leap out of it, grabbing onto a metal bar protruding from the window frame and slowly working yourself over to safety outside. Your escape is surprisingly easy.
> You look around, now that you're in the factory yard.

You find yourself in a massive factory yard filled with machinery and equipment of all kinds. The alarms have stopped ringing, meaning all of your enemies have long since left.
> You look for a way out of the yard.

You spot an exit gate at the end of the yard next to a small road. There's a fire truck outside it, which seems to suggest that there's a fire exit that leads to it from the building next to it as well as the fire exit inside the factory itself.
> You run towards the exit gate.

You start jogging over to the exit gate, passing dozens of massive silos leading to where the prisoners are kept. Finally you see one that catches your eye: a small truck drives up next to the prisoner elevator, and three masked men get out of it.
> You hide and observe them.

The men seem to be arguing about something as they approach the elevator, until one suddenly shoots another in the back of the head and runs for the elevator with their hostage!
The third runs off instead towards where you are hiding, passing you by and heading straight into the factory office.

> You sneak over to their small truck.
You quietly approach the truck from behind, intent on stopping them escaping... only to find that it's empty! You let out an exasperated sigh and shake your head. Then you notice something written on the back seat: an address and a note, presumably written by the man who just got shot.
"Time for payback."
> You get in the driver's seat.

You climb into the driver's seat of the truck and start it up, turning on the radio as you wait for it to start up. Then you swing the truck around and back out onto the road. "Did I miss anything interesting?"
> You drive away from the factory.

You put your foot on the gas pedal and drive away from the factory as fast as you can. You don't know where you are right now, but if you can lose yourself within these huge buildings, then you should be able to lose your pursuers too.
> You keep driving.

You drive for miles without seeing anything resembling a road sign or street name board, but eventually you start seeing familiar landmarks: the first houses of the city appear, trees appear on both sides of the road, cars speed past you on their way to somewhere... you're home, so to speak.
> You start looking for that address that was written on the back seat.
You start looking around for anything that might resemble an address, but it's hard to see among all of the cars on the road. It takes a few minutes, but eventually you see one building that looks like it might have an address: "Wright-Bell TV Studios". That looks promising...
Hold on, that's where you work!

They'd never send you anywhere else... unless they've completely lost all sense of reality and this is some sort of elaborate joke. Even then, it seems a bit much.
> You go inside.
You pull into the parking lot and walk inside as quickly as you can, wanting nothing more than to get out of this place as soon as possible. In addition to being the place where nightmares are made, it's also where you have your job. At least, until today.
Once inside, you head straight for your supervisor, Bob (let's just say he's your supervisor). He sees you and his eyes widen when he sees your blood-stained clothing and a gun in your hand. "Oh shit! What happened?! Are those guys behind you?"
> You say "Listen, can you just keep quiet about this? I don't want those chumps that kidnapped me to find out I'm here."
"What? Kidnapped? Wait, what are you talking about?" Bob says, looking genuinely worried for a moment before his face contorts into one of annoyance. "Look, just tell me what's going on right now.
Those two guys that came in here not ten minutes ago were screaming about how they found you bleeding from a gunshot wound and knew you were headed for us.
Are you telling me someone kidnapped you?" Well, there's no use lying now. "Yeah, they forced me into a car and took me to where I'm at now. I'm pretty sure they're after me specifically because I found out they're making nightmares for people.
So I don't want anyone to know I'm here." Bob nods. "Okay, yeah, no one needs to know. But kid, you look like you've been in a war or something. Let me guess: nightmares.
Yeah, I imagine that would do a number on you." "I thought they weren't supposed to be real." Bob laughs humorlessly. "Real enough at times. Look kid, I'm not judging anyone who has to do their job.
We all have to do things we don't necessarily like to do sometimes. Now come on, I'll take you to your new desk.
Your first assignment will be on upcoming releases, and there's already some art lying around here that could use your touch. How's that sound?" You can't help but smile a little at that. "That sounds great! I love making people happy with my music." Bob nods. "
Good, good. Well come on then, let's get started.
Well, time to get to work. The End.
All the media says is "socialism, shootings, KKK"! You just wanna grill, for god's sake!

You're not a monster, for fuck's sake, you're just a normal, average American who's had enough of the goddamn media and political correctness!
You're sick of being told you're a racist, when all you want to do is come home from work, have a couple of beers and enjoy the damn evening with your family!
Why can't you just watch the evening news and see a story about a cat that got stuck in a tree, rather than some sob story about some thug who didn't get arrested because he was black?!
Why the hell is it, that when you flip on the TV, all you see is some rich, whiny, white kid complaining about how he didn't get into the college of his choice, yet you don't see
any story on a hard-working black person who's managing with the little he has? ...At this point, you notice several of your friends in the crowd nodding in agreement.
The tension is thick, and you've only just begun... The government takes 45% of your income. The media is nothing but a house of hypocrites, telling you how to live your life.
Your kid is coming home from school next week, having learned about gay marriage, but not about abstinence. Every commercial on TV is pushing a new drug for every ailment.
Next year, you'll be forced to buy health insurance, or face a hefty tax penalty. Gas prices are through the roof, and only going up. The "N"
word, "Cracker", "Hick", "Redneck", "White Trash" and every other derogatory term for whites is not only accepted, but in some circles, it's celebrated.
You see a commercial telling you "it's okay to be white", and everyone loses their minds.
You wear a shirt with the American flag on it, and someone calls the police, accusing you of being a racist. ...You turn to your right, noticing that the crowd has grown considerably.
To your left, you notice several news crews recording every moment. You look straight ahead, and notice a small group of Antifa preparing for a fight. They look ready to throw down.
Your son, and several of his friends are on the verge of adulthood. What kind of world will they grow up in? What will their lives be like?
What about your daughter? Will she even have a future worth living? You think back to the election.
There was a time when you thought it could get no worse than Obama, but oh how the world proved you wrong.
You hold no ill-will towards those who supported Hillary, but looking back, it's obvious that she would've only continued the same policies as Obama. At least Trump wants to try something different.
You remember the rally, and the spirit of patriotism and pride you felt as you and everyone around you sang the national anthem.
You remember the speech the President gave, calling everyone to come together as Americans. You remember the unity, the promise of a better tomorrow. Unity is what America needs right now.
Not more division. The liberals, the progressives, the social justice warriors, the feminists, Black Lives Matter, Antifa, and everyone else who claims they're for "progress" are doing nothing but dragging America down.
It's time to take a stand. You've had enough. It's time to make America great again.
It's time to DRAIN THE SWAMP. It's time... ...to make America conservative again.
It's time to fire the politicians. It's time to fire the professors. It's time to fire the journalists. It's time... to fire everyone in the "elite".
It's time to take back America. It's time to... ...Make America Great Again.
The crowd breaks out into cheers and applause. Cheers and applause that soon spread across the entire nation.
Within a few months, the entire Democratic Party has collapsed. The establishment of both parties is sent home. All of Washington is fired.
Most importantly, American values and traditions are upheld once more. America is strong again. America is free again. But this didn't come without struggle.
There are protests in every major city. There is fighting in the streets. There is blood, and death, and riots, and anger. But America prevailed. With the "swamp"
gone, and the old elite discarded and powerless, a new hope has risen for the American people. A hope that things will get better. A hope that tomorrow will be better than today.
That hope... is you. You've been given a second chance, and you're going to make the best of it.
You're not going to fail. You are the 45th President of the United States, and you are... MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

You are Ubiquitous, a peasant living in a small village in the kingdom of Larion. You have a pitchfork and nothing else. You dream of getting out of your village and having an adventure. You go to your fields and begin working. You look up and see a griffin flying overhead. It swoops down and eats the seeds of a nearby plant. You feel the need to act, so you run up and try to shoo the bird away.

> You shoo with pitchfork. You have a pitchfork, so you try to shoo the griffin away with it. It is heavy and awkward to use, but eventually you manage to do some damage to the griffin.

> You shoo with pitchfork again. You continue to try to shoo the griffin away with your pitchfork. Eventually it flies away and you have succeeded in damaging it again. Unfortunately, you realize now that this is a bad idea. You fall asleep and don't wake up.

> You no you don't. You're dead. In an attempt to not be dead anymore, you call out to the Grim Reaper for help. He is reluctant to help you at first, but he eventually agrees because he has no choice.

> You tell Grim Reaper to kill the griffin instead. The Grim Reaper takes out his sword and goes to the griffin's aid. Unfortunately, it proves to be a very difficult battle for him. The griffin is incredibly powerful and is determined to destroy the Grim Reaper. Eventually, the Grim Reaper is badly wounded.

> You heal the Grim Reaper. You remember that there is a village not far from the farm. The healer in that village should be able to heal the Grim Reaper. You don't really know what you're doing, but you're going with your gut on this.

> You carry Grim Reaper to healer. You go back to the village and find the healer. He's easy enough to find, just ask for the healer and you'll find him. You go to his house and ring the bell. After a while, the healer comes to the door and asks what you want.

> You ask him to help the Grim Reaper. The healer is surprised to hear that you want his help. He's a little hesitant to help you, but he says he doesn't see any reason not to. He tells you to come in and asks you what happened.

> You asked him to kill a griffin and he was wounded by it. He asks you where the griffin is, and you tell him. He tells you that the griffin will have to wait until he's finished treating you first. The healer spends about an hour treating the Grim Reaper, during which time the Grim Reaper grows increasingly impatient.

> You reassure the Grim Reaper that he can wait. Eventually the healer comes out of his house and tells you that the Grim Reaper can leave now. The Grim Reaper is upset by this news, but he knows there is nothing he can do except wait. The healer goes back into his house and then comes out with a sword.

> You ask him why he has a sword. The healer doesn't answer you, he just tells you to follow him. He leads you through the village and into a forest. He tells you to wait there while he goes in search of a griffin. After about ten minutes he comes back with a griffin by his side.

> You apologise for injuring the griffin. He apologizes to the griffin and tells him he'll make it up to him. The griffin doesn't seem pleased by this, but he says he needs to do this anyway. He swings his sword and smacks the griffin in the face several times until the griffin submits.

> You retire to your house. The healer thanks you for your help and says he'll be fine now. He goes back into his house and you go back to your farmhouse. Later, you fall asleep and don't wake up.

Another one.

This is a history of the emu war in Australia. In the beginning of the twentieth century, the emu war took place there.
Emus are a species of flightless birds, and they used their amazing leaping ability to overrun the Australian countryside.
The people of Australia tried to use traditional weapons against them, like rifles and spears, but the emus were just too fast.
They had no way to fight such a foe. The only solution the people of Australia could think of was to train kangaroos and crocodiles to fight for them.
These beasts, which were very vicious and quite large, were chosen. A military base was set up in the outback to train the kangaroos.
Crocodiles were bred in captivity to be recruited into the military as well. It took a long time to train them both to kill the emus.
The kangaroos were taught to go into a charging run at the emus.
The Australians hoped that this would be enough to kill them. Some of the kangaroos were even taught to jump very high. They were raised to believe that they were weapons to be used against the emus.
It took a lot of work on the part of the trainers to instill this fear into the kangaroos, because they were friendly animals normally. The crocodiles were trained in a similar way.
They were trained to focus on their prey and wait for the command to strike. One of the tactics used with the crocodiles was to hold a bait of some sort.
The crocodiles would be released to find the target and only then would it be time for them to swallow it.
It was found that this tactic worked the best. The kangaroos were released to charge the emus when they began to straggle back from a long range. The tactic proved quite effective at first.
The emus were frightened by the sight of the kangaroos and would scatter when they saw them coming.
however, the emus fought back
. They took advantage of the terrain and ambushed the kangaroos with their dangerous heads and legs. The kangaroos were unable to jump very high, so the emus were still able to kill them.
With each passing day, the kangaroos were getting weaker and the emus were growing stronger. Eventually, the kangaroos were all killed off. The emus won the war.
no. it cant end like this.
We must do something! We must change the tide of this war before it is too late. You look around at your companions, and nod to yourself. It is clear what needs to be done.
"we need a new tactic. Something that can kill those hopping beasts as quick as possible. We can't afford to lose even a single one now." The other soldiers nod in agreement.
The war has been going on for far too long. "Our new tactic will be to launch ourselves at the enemy at high speeds and destroy as many of them as possible before we get hit.
Only then will we need to reload and do it all over again.
That way we kill far more of them than we would otherwise." The soldiers listen intently to your plan. "But how will we stop ourselves from being hit in the first place?
There is no cover to be had out here!" The sergeant says. "We won't. We will take the bullets instead.
After all, it's not as if we are going to survive this attack anyway." You say. The soldiers don't seem entirely convinced by your plan, but you are confident in it. "We're doomed.
But I suppose if we don't survive, we'll have at least done something to change the tide of this war." The sergeant nods. "Alright men, listen up. We're doing exactly what we planned.
We are going to ram the enemy at high speed, and take as many of them out with us as possible. You can do this, I know you can! This is what we've trained for!
Now let's go do it!
"
Yes, sir.
Men, listen up! We are going into this with all guns blazing. We ram the enemy at high speed, and take as many of them out with us as possible.
Once we are hit, we simply keep on going and ignore the hits. This is what we have trained for! Now let's do it!
The men all look apprehensive, but ready themselves for what is to come. You nod to the sergeant, and the two of you lead the way. The rest of the men follow behind, at a safe distance.
The two of you run towards the enemy lines at full speed, rifles ready.
Once you get close enough, you leap into the air, your rifle aiming at an angle to give you a clear shot at the enemy.
The bullets slam into your chest and arms, but you don't even feel it. You fly through the air with unnatural speed, aiming to ram straight into a group of emus.
The first thing you notice when you collide into the emus is the incredible pain. However, you are still alive, and you quickly shove your rifle forward and stab an emu through the neck.
You quickly pull the knife out and shove it into another one, ignoring the pain of the knife going through your arm. However, as you shove the knife in, you realize you have made a fatal mistake.
The knife went through the neck of the emu you rammed into, but the rest of them are now aware of your presence, and turn to shoot at you.
The bullets slam into your body and it feels as if every part of it is on fire. You try to crawl out of the way, but the pain is too much and you collapse to the ground.
the emus have won
.
epilogue: the war goes on for years after your death.
your plan was never going to work, but it was a good attempt. Ultimately, the emus won, and went on to wipe out the rest of the native species within a few decades.
They are still around today, and probably will be for decades to come.
the emus even began to start writing poetry
during this time, though it was very barbaric and not at all like the poetry you were familiar with.
but their hunger lingers for conquering mankind
, and one day they will return to their true glory.

[MOD EDIT - this was originally another thread but it was close enough to this one to be merged. Deadwaste's posts also break some character limits, so don't go screaming to reports about multiposts.]

pretty much this entire thing is ai generated with some minor exceptions cause the ai kept going in places it wasnt supposed to and i had to curb it so it wouldnt branch out into some other gay shit. if it doesnt make sense, good. it isnt supposed to.

the following represents the alternate history of the united states of america in timeline format:

1774: america declares it's independance from britain with the declaration of independence.

1775: britain declares war against the americans.

1776:
Britain wins the first battle of Lexington and Concord, but loses the second battle of Bunker hill. The third battle of Boston is won by the British, however they lose their remaining ships to a storm off shore. They are forced to retreat back home.

Britain continues to win battles after this point until 1783 when american forces defeat them again at Yorktown.

1783:
america declares its intention to become a world power, and invades Canada.

1784: Britain attacks the new united states of America at Fort Stanwix in Quebec. The battle is lost after two days of fighting. The Americans make one last stand at Long island where they are finally defeated by the end of November. England conquers all of North America except for Florida and New Jersey, which remain under Spanish rule.

1785:
Britain invades american territory. Washington's army loses against the British at the first battle of Philadelphia.
1787: The final battle takes place in Virginia. Washington is killed during the battle by a stray cannon ball. The new president Benjamin Franklin surrenders unconditionally to the British forces.

1788: The redcoats march into Washington to a chorus of boos. New York and Philadelphia soon follow. The thirteen colonies are annexed into the British Empire. Tensions remain high with the middle and southern states, who threatened to secede from america and join spain or france if any sort of british law were to take place there.

1789: Britain finally grants the thirteen colonies "local control", but establishes military forts across the states for "protectorate reasons". Benjamin Franklin is granted a dukedom and control over the south as peace settlement after signing the treaty of 1790. The treaty also includes 400 thousand pounds to be paid to the British king.
The Midwest remains fairly independent, with only a few military outposts.

1790:
Britain and spain sign the treaty of Madrid, putting an end to their on-going feud over the Louisiana territory. Spain gives Florida to Great Britain in return for their own claims to Oregon.
Benjamin Franklin dies a rich man at 75. Martial law is ended in the south, but Great Britain keeps its military outposts there. The population is 110 million.

1791:
Britain invades and conquers the neutral Iroquois tribes and seizes all of the major settlements except for New Orleans, who remains in French hands. Britain offers to sell Iroquoia to New Orleans for a hefty sum.
1792: The new independent nation of Kentucky is established by eastern settlers from Maryland. Kentucky invades Iroquoia immediately after Britain acquired it, and conquers it after a short war of two months.
Britain declares neutrality with Kentucky.
1793: Kentucky expands southwards into Ohio. it is considered to be the most powerful of the new states' western forts.
1797: Britain and France go to war. The British government no longer gives money to the thirteen colonies, which results in poverty becoming even more widespread than it was before. Britain establishes a permanent presence in Kentucky after a small war with them.

1798:
In New York, riots break out in response to high taxation and increasingly poor living standards. British soldiers open fire into a crowd of protestors, killing ten. Violence spreads throughout the east coast: the British send thousands of troops to New York City to try to maintain control. The tailors' guild goes on strike and riots ensue. Half of New York is set on fire before the British military puts an end to the violence.
In Philadelphia, the Irish working class rise up against the English army, and rebel militias form across the Delaware river in New Jersey.
Irish-Americans in Massachusetts also launch an armed rebellion. Britain sends military police to stop them. Native tribes in the Great Lakes join forces with rebel militias and overpower the military police en route to their objective of Fort Detroit. In a pre-emptive strike, British troops ally with local Iroquois tribes in Michigan and invade Kentucky from Michigan and Pennsylvania.

The nation is in chaos.
1799: Britain has lost control of the American east coast and parts of the south. Southern state militias are now the only British allies left in the country. Spain threatens to invade Florida (Britain has pulled out its forces from there). But many residents still support the British monarchy and want the British government to send an army to crush all rebellious state militias.

The thirteen colonies are now in complete control of their respective states (except for parts of New York City, which are under a British military presence). State legislatures meet to discuss how the colonies should be organized. In some states, towns and counties simply declare themselves independent from the colonies and refuse to send deputies to the state assembly. Patrick Henry is re-elected governor of Virginia by a huge majority, but many districts in Western Virginia refuse to acknowledge his authority and go their own way.

1800:
A plan for confederacy among all thirteen states is debated. In an attempt to reunite the states under common authority, a convention is held in Philadelphia for this purpose. Western Virginia ignores the convention and declares itself separate from the rest of Virginia.
After a long and passionate discourse on both sides, the convention ends without agreement. The differences in economy, political opinion, morality and culture are too great to overcome.

The roads to the West are open. A new country beckons. In the next few years, hundreds of thousands of settlers pour into the land beyond the Appalachians.
In the elections of 1800, Patrick Henry is defeated and retired, and Thomas Jefferson narrowly defeats Charles Cotesworth Pinckney in a controversial election.
Governor Claiborne of Mississippi Territory incorporates parts of West Florida into Louisiana Territory.

1801: The American people are apprehensive about war with France. Along the Mississippi, Native tribes have united to oppose American expansion into their lands.
The states of North and South Carolina are at each other's throats over the proper disposition of slaves.
Peace between Britain and America has been restored, but no settlers are coming West. The Ohio River is crowded with flatboats and rafts of fleeing families who have lost their homes to ruthless land agents.
New Englanders complain that their state governments are too pro-Southern; New Yorkers grumble that the federal government is run by wealthy slave owners.
The nation is bitterly divided over the issue of slavery, with new counties being admitted to the Union only after complex negotiations. Large counties such as Franklin are being blocked from admission because of internal discord. The Western land boom has become a bust, and many speculators have been ruined.
Workers are rioting and striking all over the East.
In the South, slavery is widespread and the economy revolves around it. The cotton gin has just been invented, which will revolutionize cultivation of the crop. Many slaves are sold to settlers in the West, especially in newly created Arkansas Territory (OTL state of Oklahoma). This has both positive and negative effects.
On the one hand, it keeps the peace and brings much-needed money to the strained government. On the other hand, it only encourages the settlers to move farther West. Manumissions are on the rise as educated slaves demand an end to their bondage.
The Missouri Crisis erupts when slave owners from Tennessee and Kentucky bring their human "property" into Ohio, which attempted to keep slavery out with a new state constitution.
While the ruling on the side of the slavers disgusts northerners and infuriates midwesterners, they are outnumbered by the southern states in Congress. This is merely another step into breaking up the union between the North and South, a division that is getting wider every day.

The ruling also blocks the proposed state of Franklin's admission to the Union.

1802:
In Kentucky, American militias seize the city of New Madrid (OTL city in Missouri near the Arkansas border) from Spanish forces. The siege lasts a few months and afterward, the governor of Washington Territory (OTL area of Missouri above Louisiana and Arkansas) meets with his counterparts from Missouri and Arkansas to discuss their next moves.

The governor of Missouri declares his support for the rebellion and places a portion of his state's militia at the disposal of the American commanders. The governor of Arkansas is furious about this, but there is little he can do: the majority of his citizens are loyal to the United States and his forces are weak compared to Missouri's.
Early in the year, the northernmost towns in Arkansas rise up in revolution. The American militia crushes them, but by now all of Arkansas has had enough.
The remainder of the militia switches sides, as do many citizens of the territory. The governor's ineffectual forces are crushed, and the territory falls under American control. While officially part of the United States, Arkansas has effectively seceded from Washington and is under the rule of a local provisional government headed by Governor James Miller. Miller is granted wide-ranging powers by the American military and is tasked with running his territory as he sees fit.

1805:
In the continuing effort to acquire more land, Kentucky calls for new states to be carved from its western territories. The populations would demand a state government, more tax money flowing into the area even if it is still sparsely populated at this time, and more men to contribute to the army.
The Arkansas territory becomes the state of Missouri (after being officially made a state in 1808).

Though Missouri has been admitted into the United States, it still remains a place of turmoil. The old guard of rich slave-owners has been ousted from power by a much more populist government that was put into place after blood was shed on both sides. These upstarts of course want decision-making powers and normally the government would not let them have it, but they have little choice in the matter thanks to the military presence there keeping the populace in line.

The Ozark Mountains are still home to many bandits and outlaws and it is common for them to clash with the ill-disciplined, but well armed militias employed by the state.
Meanwhile, west of the Mississippi River, and also part of Missouri (though it has not yet been made a state) additional settlements have been made. Some mining attempts are made in this region as well as trading with various Native American tribes for their furs and foodstuffs.

The Union needs the resources of this land, but is not entirely sure they want to risk losing soldiers there, but perhaps sending ex-soldiers might do the job nicely.

1807:
The first government-approved companies begin their settlement of the newly acquired territory. They found the towns of Columbia, Franklin, and Harrisonville in the first year of their arrival. Later, more settlements spring up in Jackson, Lillardberg, Sedgewick, and even a short-lived experiment in communal living in Freedom (this one does not last and is abandoned by 1810).
It is in this year that the western territory is officially given the name of "Kansas" by the United States.
They weren't supposed to call it Kansas, but rather "Russell", as in "Russell County", but that name didn't last long. The governor of Missouri thought that was silly, so he changed it to Kansas after a Populous Indian Goddess. As news spread of this fertile land across the country more settlers began to pour in.
Some come to exploit the natural resources such as the Wyandott and some just seeking cheap, affordable land. These farmers, mostly from German stock begin to build towns like Bazaar, Pawnee, Marthasville (later renamed Kansas City), and others along the Missouri River.

1808:
The tide of settlers finally begins to infringe upon the territory of the Pawnee who retaliate with a series of small raids and assaults on American settlers. The American governor calls out the militias and organizes a force of 700 men to march against the Pawnee. Four hundred of these men are armed with pistol, rifle and/or musket. Two hundred are mounted, primarily used to locate and fight the Indians away from the relative safety of those on the ground.

When the militia goes on an unauthorized warpath against the local Indians in September of this year, they quickly find themselves on the losing end as they are ambushed and run down by the Pawnee who lay a series of effective traps and skirmish attacks. Over three-fourths of the militia is wiped out or wounded to some degree.

also The Arkansas territory becomes the state of Missouri.

During this year the Pawnee are not numerous enough to be able to counter the American settlers who continue to pour into their lands under the protection of the American militiamen. Most Indian tribes have by now been either pushed west, south or otherwise considerably reduced in power by American expansion.
In addition, even those tribes allied to the Americans such as the Cherokee and Creek have also been suffering terrible losses for their allegiances.

1810:

The last major skirmish with the Pawnee occurs this year when an American militia is attacking a group of them and gets itself surrounded and nearly annihilated. The Americans win, but they suffer considerable losses.
With reductions in resources and manpower due to its own ever increasing expansion goals back east, the United States government begins to phase out its forts in Kansas by this year.

For the next two decades there are no American soldiers based in Kansas.
The term "Bleeding Kansas" begins to be used to describe the events of this time.

1811:
The first permanent settlements begin to appear in the southern reaches of Kansas. One of the primary ones is located this year is Arkansas City.
By the end of the year the Pawnee, already suffering from previous years events and reduced numbers find themselves unable to prevent further American settlement.
1812: The American settlers continue to pour into Kansas. Most come from Missouri, but a sizable number also arrive from newly annexed Louisiana too.
The Pawnee continue to fight back against this expansion.
The fighting becomes more brutal on both sides. In one incident, a militia leader lops the heads off captured Pawnee warriors and uses them for American football during a celebration in Arkansas City.
In the beginning of the year another large group of settlers arrives from Missouri. The influx of American citizens into Kansas increases the power that Missouri will be able to wield over Kansas.
By the end of the year the United States officially declares war on Britain and its allies, including Spain.

1813:
The US army finds itself spread too thinly on the American front due to the war with Britain. As a result, it withdraws from most of its western forts in order to concentrate its forces at key locations. The American settlers in Kansas now find themselves effectively on their own in their fight with the Pawnee and other tribes who have been their enemies for decades.
The settlers form militias of their own in order to defend themselves.
These militias are disorganized, undisciplined and resent the fact that they have to defend themselves at all.
One of the first casualties of this new fighting is a Pawnee war party which attacks a homestead. A militia hastily gathered to help fight them off finds the scalped bodies of the homesteaders after the fact.
The militia commander, a hotheaded young man with more passion than sense named John Brown reacts in fury to the carnage.
He forms a small group of hard men from various militias and they begin to undertake secretive nighttime raids on Pawnee camps to kill as many as they can find.
These sorts of killing squads become more and more common on both sides.
Under the command of a militia leader named Samuel Tallmadge, another American militia constructs a crude blockhouse fort called Fort Arsenal. It is built near the Arkansas River.

The year ends with a major Pawnee village being massacred by a militia led by Brown. Most of the braves had been away on a hunting expedition at the time, but the women and children who remained were hacked to pieces.
1814: The fighting in the east against Britain continues to rage on, but the war has taken a toll on both sides. As a result, both sides agree to several treaties in rapid succession in order to end the bloodshed.

Samuel Tallmadge runs for office.
He wins and begins to bring his brand of "justice" to Washington.
John Brown continues his killing spree. A new militia is formed, calling themselves the Jayhawkers after a nest thief, they begin their own raids on Pawnee camps. They are led by a young man named James Montgomery.
One of the last major battles in the east occurs when the British attempt one last push to take Washington. They are driven back into Canada.

After receiving a letter from his son telling him about the many massacres he has personally committed, John Brown Sr. has a heart attack and dies.
The Pawnee are driven from their last holdouts in Kansas. They flee westward.
1815: The fighting in the east ends with a final treaty signed in 1815. The war against Britain is finally over.
The young nation of the United States of America has survived.
A new nation called "Mexico" has seceded from Spain and is fighting its own war of independence. James Montgomery and other Jayhawkers have no problem switching their targets. They begin to raid Mexico, stealing horses and cattle. They sell these in Missouri.
Samuel Tallmadge joins them.
He has become a violent man. He has no problem with stealing from Mexicans or anyone else for that matter.
John Brown is still killing Pawnee. He has become a ruthless man. Once he became friends with the Indians, but that time has passed forever.
1816: The US army led by general Andrew Jackson finally puts an end to the Red Stick resistance in the south.
Old Hickory has won a great victory for the young republic. He captures the last few holdouts and executes their leaders.
Most of the remaining Red Sticks flee to Florida where they are welcomed by the Spanish. There they will rebuild as an ongoing nuisance to the young American republic.
The relentless killing has taken its toll on John Brown. He is plagued by nightmares and makes a decision to leave Kansas. He decides to move to Missouri where he hears there is good land available for farmers.
The US army decides to end the Jayhawker threat to Mexico. A combined force of soldiers and Missouri citizens are sent to arrest the most notorious ones. James Montgomery, Cole Younger, and several others are all arrested, tried, and executed for crimes against Mexico. The Jayhawkers are no more.
Samuel Tallmadge died in office while fighting in mexico. his vice president,
John Charles Frémont, finished his term. Frémont ran for and won a second term.
The Pawnee have vanished from Kansas. The few who remain have fled to the far west. They will not return for many years.

1818:
The last of the Seminole have been run out of Florida. The Red Stick resistance has finally been crushed. It is a bitter defeat for the proud nation, but they will rebuild in the future.
John Brown leads his family to Missouri. They are some of the first settlers in an area called "Nemaha County". He takes up a piece land and begins farming it. He is joined by family and friends from Ohio.

The Second Seminole War ends. The remaining Seminoles are rounded up and placed in a small reservation in Oklahoma. They continue to fight, but by 1836 they have all been captured or killed.
Oregon is colonized by Americans. The Native Americans living there either move west or are enslaved by the white settlers.
In Europe, unrest throughout the continent causes thousands of radicals to flee to America.

The United States continues to grow. The states of Michigan and Iowa are admitted into the union.
Martin Van Buren is re-elected President. He intends to buy out French holdings in Oregon once again.
A group of radicals calling themselves the "Knights of Labor" begin protesting for workers' rights in Philadelphia. The protests become violent and the Knights resort to sabotage in order to get their point across.

1830:
The United States begins to take control of the Oregon territory. The settlers begin calling for the formation of a new state, which will be called Kentucky.
John Jr graduates from West Point. He is stationed at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas.
The Native American tribes in California, led by a chief named Tenaya, revolt against the government. They steal horses and guns and hide in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
The Natives are at advantage in the mountains, but the Army is determined to capture them.
Ridding California of Natives increases American settlers' desire to settle there. Richard Owens, William McCutchen, John Burger, and William Foster establish the Donation Land Claim Act, which allows any white man or widow to settle there after they spend a minimum of three years living in Oregon territory. The four men begin selling off claims for $100 or twenty-eight dollars in gold coins.
Under this act, Oregon's population soars.
In Great Britain, industrialist Robert Owen organizes the Grand National Consolidated Trades Union. To celebrate the GNCTU's fifth anniversary, Owen's son begins plans for a peaceful worker's march in London; some radicals want to turn it into a violent revolution.
In other news, the United States continues to grow. The states of Washington, Idaho and Montana are admitted into the union.

Outside of Fort ll Leavenworth, Kansas, Colonel John "Black Jack" Chandler and a company of Missouri volunteers are hazing Native Americans after a horse theft. One of the soldiers grabs a native woman and attempts to steal her blanket. She fends him off, and he shoots her. Other Native Americans appear on the scene and shoot the soldier; in return, the volunteer cavalry slaughter the Native Americans.
Word arrives at Fort ll that the Indians have attacked, and Colonel William States is preparing his men to move out.
The truth of the events, however, is much different. Native American Francis Repeh lives with his wife Winyan Helpu Who Lasts Together and their children near Fort Leavenworth. He speaks no English, but understands it a little bit. He saw the volunteer cavalry shooting his people and stealing their horses.
He sees an army officer approach and motion for him to step forward.
"Natives are stealing horses all around here," the officer says. "You wanna be a dead Native, or a rich man?"
The poorest men in the country were the Native Americans, and Repeh could use some money to feed his family. He is told he must kill as many of his people as he can, and the men will split a $1000 bounty.

1833:

Wyoming has been divided up into three separate provinces: Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri.
Franklin Baptist Church is founded by Baptists in Franklin, Tennessee.
They reject the increasingly popular revivalism in favor of sticking to accepted Baptist beliefs.
The Blood Cult fights back against the 20,000 American settlers in Wisconsin territory.

Franklin Wyatt leads 300 settlers into Oregon territory and founds Linnton, named after his wife, Linda Woolworth. He builds Fort Defiance.
Wyatt Company member Jacob Dodson disloges Native Americans from their land without a fight, settling in the Columbia River.
He calls his town Cromwell.

Yellowstone Kelly is born in Tallahassee, Creek territory. He is one of nine children born to chief gunsmith Henry Vandewater and his wife Kathleen.

Jacob Dodson has been a good friend of Franklins and Wyatt, selling tools and supplies for their expeditions, he joins the next one. The group also includes Capt. J Alden and scout Salvador Limjoco.

As usual, conflict with Native Americans begins the US westward push. In Oregon territory, Chief Slacum of the Wandascou tribe has sold his land for $8000 and notices the settlers are destroying his environment and homes, he tries to attack them at suppertime, but is killed, inspiring his tribe to fight the intruders.
Salvador Limjoco scouts for a good location to build a fort, and notices an old Indian Fortress that dates back centuries. He recommends building it up and placing gun there with a clear line of site for miles around. Fort Defiance is built in seven weeks.
In Missouri, a unit calling itself the Night Riders terrorizes pro-slavery supporters by burning businesses that aided Capt. Winston's Antislavery effort, and killed the postmaster who refused to mail their propaganda letters.

Meanwhile, some Yankee volunteers form a company to guard the Antislavery settlers from attackers. Captain O'Donnely cuts down an injured Indian during the first attack on Ward Young's team, causing the other attackers to flee.
Wyatt and Young join a posse to catch the attackers. Severely outnumbered, the posse takes refuge in the Wymoing settlemtnt, warns women and children to hide and rides out to Hill County for reinforcements.

1834:

After letting the posse rest, O'Donnely onstounds out again. He gives the settlers guns and rides to help them, only to see they were organizing a lynching party. He attacks them and wounds Roger Morris, who is part of the lynch mob, before Linda Gwilt shoots him in the side. 18 angry settlers beat the badly wounded O'Donnely to death and kill his owbrker Patrick Dolan as he tries to make peace.

commences. jesse goes to bail out Cole and Frank but gets into a barfight with soldiers who have no idea who he is. after spending the money, he returns to find Charley Ford has shot Bob Younger dead while he was scaling a Longhorn. overwhelmed with guilt; Charley suicides by ingesting mercury pills.
Ford convinces the assembled gang that he can crack a lucrative Gold shipment going from California to St. Louis.
The robbery is successful but the gang puts most of the loot on layaway for farm equipment. Deciding it would be unwise to go straight back to Missouri they go to Kansas instead and get jobs at the strapping young town of Austin. They meet Bill Gentry, Cole Dunham, Bill Chadwell and Charlie Pitts during a bank robbery which goes awry as usual.

in mexico,
a full scale war is going on between mexican military and federalist troops. every American from here to Washington declares their support for the former. Texas declares itself a separate state, the USA sends in troops after flames of rebellion begin to lick up, guerilla warfare begins and Sam Houston is defeated in the texas election. Frank and Jesse meet Wood Hite's Younger cousin Tom in Missouri and rob a stagecoach.
not realising the bonds they stole were worthless, they swear him into the gang with a different spelling of his last name (ie Heckett)
Bill Chadwell is diagnosed with Tuberculosis and sent to Minnesota for his health while Cole and Bob tie the know in Adairville Kentucky. when kentucky lawmen get intel on the famous outlaws, Bob is killed and Cole injured.
Cole learns of the situation in kansas and sends a brief letter swearing off gang life, accepting his recent failings in Missouri. although a wanted man, he surrenders himself to police in st Joseph and begins working as a barber, living out his days peacefully. However chadwell has already caught Tuberculosis and died by the time the gang reunites in a stolen Steam Train they plan to rob a train in Effingham, Illinois, outside St Louis.

The whiskey raid goes off without a hitch but unfortunately most of the gang are captured when they stupidly check into a hotel. three are lynched on arrest, three are acquitted and released and three plead guilty to reduced charges for lesser sentences. Frank, Jesse and Wood's cousin Bud have all been implicated in robbing that train and there's a massive manhunt on.

the war with mexico
is going badly. besides the fact it's a military mess, public sentiment is starting to turn against it as newspapers begin to report American killings of mexican civilians. later investigations prove many if not all of these allegations to be exaggerations and lies but by this point war-weary kansas and Missouri are in an uproar.
Governor Jackson ordere a company of armed men to hunt down Frank and Jesse. the ku klux klan chapters in the area use this as an excuse to start terrorizing missouri's african and caucasian populations, lynching random people left right and centre.
Mary finds herself an heiress with quite a fat sum of money. she marries her long time sweetheart Charles Farley in St Joseph in 1867.

1842:
Oregon territory achieved independence it secedes from the USA and joins the British Empire officially as the 23rd province. important due to its industries it included; lumberyards, shipyards and railways, while also providing 25% of america's wheat harvest and 40% of its marijuana. most importantly, it prohibits slavery.
oregon presidency is still held by washington heir ultra-nationalist leader emigrants james buckmaster. californian terrorist daniel reese went insane following a prison sentence for looting several mass killings targeting white families ignited the bloodiest burgerwan war in californian history, killing 150 settlers in the coeur d'alene and phillip valleys until he is killed in an artillery bombardment on Mt Judah.
fear of american invasion soon cools off. Southern ireland provisional leader Daniel Stworth gave the nations 4 provinces (Southern Illinois, Missouri Valley, Downstream and Eastern Kansas) in return for immediate independence. Unfortunately he is lynched shortly afterwards by keen supporters of the promise of American support given by Nana Rutherford, Lincoln's old ally.
James accepts the proposal. despite the patriotic ads promising aid coming from north argentina to recruits take guns with them and sail south no one arrived. horribly wrong calculations plus an economical disaster because several workers lose their job in the naval shipyard of southern Illinois cause Chief Rutherford to beg for mercy from the ultra national Stworth government who approaches governor jinneto for talks, managing to offer only one settlement .

back in mexico, the mexican american war is going horribly.
Texas has been utterly devastated, was settled entirely by mexican and origin natives after the american fore killed everyone else arriving there from the states to avoid more bloodshed. Following Texas' smoke overture, future border advances quickly convince voters the government better concentrate on keeping the republic together.
western republicans and northern democrats unite against the war claiming it is unnecessary and immoral, causing the fall of several weakly presidents until marion brown takes charge. He orders a swift retreat giving up land gained to date, but allowing new mexico to keep what it has taken from colorado territory.
western republicans accuse him of treason, forming a coalition with southern democrats they succeed in passing a vote of no confidence. the military is purged of most officers from the nationalistic brown regime and replaced by those loyal to the coalition. the final straw comes when several former southern ireland states unite to form the "western alliance", declaring independence from the central government in St louis. two weeks later, president brown is found dead in his home under mysterious circumstances.
the official story is he killed himself, but rumors of assassination are widespread.
western republicans form a new government with the coalition and immediately declare war on the centralist republic of america, claiming it has become a military dictatorship. seeing that its forces are outnumbered and outgunned, the centralist government calls upon its old allies to help them in this dark hour. this is the start of the first civil war.

western alliance forces advance swiftly, capturing most of the midwestern territory. a small force from western alliance takes advantage of the fact that future battles will be fought in open fields, and sails across the great lakes, landing in northern new york. they take st lawrence, but are stopped just outside of watertown by a hastily organized militia.
western republicans take over former brown strongholds, including chicago and south dakota as well as several allland border towns.

1844:
the war continues to rage on, with the western republicans gaining more territory. the centralists suffer a temporary defeat when their main army is wiped out by a force of western republicans under general perry in the battle of golden valley. the centralists are saved by the arrival of mexican aid, which is primarily made up of mexican "volunteers" as well as several native american allies.
the arrival of these troops turn the tide of the war.
western alliance is invaded from all sides, and several border towns are captured. the battle of trenton sees a mixed force of mexican and native american soldiers defeat a militia force from trenton, who were attempting to prevent the occupation of their city.
The first shots of the war are fired when a small native american force raids the town of pittsfield in northern illinois.

western republicans respond by sending a large army to take st lawrence. the small fort there holds out gallantly for two weeks, but eventually the town is taken and the fort destroyed.
western alliance counter attacks, gaining ground in illinois and taking over southern wisconsin. they then launch a combined arms attack on milwaukee. the town is taken, and the war spreads to northern wisconsin where several towns are captured by western alliance forces.

western republicans invade northern iowa, hoping to take advantage of the fact that many native americans have joined the western alliance forces.
western republicans launch an amphibious invasion, landing troops in oklahoma and advancing into texas. the texas town of kempner is taken, but the force is halted when it reaches the outskirts of austin.
western republicans counter by invading new mexico and oklahoma.
they take several towns, but are stopped by the arrival of several mexican cavalry regiments.
mexican forces are sent to retake austin, which is heavily defended by a large militia force. the battle of austin is a draw, with heavy losses on both sides.
western republicans launch an amphibious landing in california, hoping to take advantage of the small number of troops there.
the california republic hires several mountainmen and european mercenaries to take care of the invasion.
western republicans take over a few gold towns, drawing out the defenders with a small militia force. then they retreat back to the boats.
western republicans invade northern california and southern oregon, pushing back the defending mexican forces. they reach newport before being halted by mexican troops.

western republicans invade central oregon, hoping to take it before the next harvest. allied with a mountain man force, they reach the oregon/idaho border. they've held off three mexican Army attacks so far.
western republicans invade central california, moving slowly towards sacramento. the small number of mexican troops there are holding out, but must be driven out for california to be free.

1845:
california has been liberated from mexican occupation by a daring mountain man and his militia of trappers and indians. the western alliance has decided not to launch any major offensives this year, but to focus on maintaining californias independence.
western republicans launch one last push into central california.
they take the town of vallejo, but fail to take davis. in response, mexico forms a 270,000 man army and sends it towards california. californian militia defeats a portion of this army at stockton, but mexico is in no mood to negotiate.
western republicans begin a system of trenches and land mines to defend against the mexican army.
californian militia harasses mexican troops from the forests. mexico executes captured mountain men and miners, whose executions are horrific. in protest, mountain men destroy several small californian mining towns.
meanwhile, southern oregon is invaded by the western alliance.
the oregon provisional government is forced to turn to the californian republic for assistance.
the entirety of california lies in ruins. mountain men are being killed by overzealous mexican troops with no trials. mexico offers to treat californians as conquered people, with brutal taxation and many rights not given in their "liberated' state". the californian republic refuses these terms.

western republicans offer to give california statehood should they support the western alliance. the californian republic is considering it.
mexican forces are blocking californian river and coastal traffic, as well as occupying several points in california and oregon. mountain men have now joined the war, attacking mexican supply caravans and soldiers.
lacking workers, californian farming has come to a halt.

meanwhile, the centralists
launch an invasion of the northwestern quarter of the union. they spearhead from southern oregon, and work their way towards seattle, against little resistance. why they're heading to that region is unknown.
western republicans fortify seattle for an oncoming attack, expecting californians or mountain men to help them. so far, only out of stated locals are offering to help them.

western republicans begin to blockade southern oregon, to stop the mexican army moving any further north. they only have a few ships, however, so its slow going.
mexico closes off all sea trade with californian ports under their control. californian state of northern california led by rich landowners petitions to join the western alliance, supported by the majority of the people who see that statehood isn't working for them.
the centralists, in return
for border access and trade, attempt to invade southern oregon. but are defeated by the californian military, still fresh from their victories against the western alliance. the high commanding general and president of california travels to the capital of his new state to award those who defended it so valiantly.
western republicans have increased their blockade of southern oregon, as far as eagle point.
mexico sends in more troops to push the republicans out of california altogether. californians support their government's military actions, still angry at the californian lives lost against the mexican army.
lacking an official army, mountain men have become a problem for californians now that they're hostile to them. encroaching in small bands from oregon, they ambush and attack lone patrols ruthlessly.

1847: the first american civil war ends with the republicans winning with a decisive victory
after having pushed the mexican army back across the border. the war is now officially over. californian coastal trade continues to suffer and almost grinds to a halt under the heavy blockade by the western republic. several coastal communities go bankrupt as a result of this.

western republicans continue to push deep into californian territory from oregon, starting with ssouthern oregon. the towns there are taken over by militias sympathetic to the cause. californians begin fleeing california after having seen their military defeated by a band of farmers. both sides fight mercilessly to secure dominance on one side or the other.
men are killed at high rates in battle.
western republicans officially split from the western alliance, fearing that the loyalist american government will one day become another corrupt centralised power like the one they're trying to escape from.
1848: californian calvary attempt to enter oregon territory and attack the militias there, but are driven out.
they make no more attempts to do so.
western republicans offer an end to the californian dictatorships by allowing those who weren't personally involved in the state's pro-loyalist policies before the war to take part in free and open elections.
the californians refuse these offers, seeing no reason to surrender what they believe to be rightfully theirs, especially after already going through one civil war to gain their independence from mexico.
the loyalists re-establish the independent state of california and promotes even more farming, which leads to several famines as the large slave population is now used to do all the work.
western republicans lose interest in invading california. they are content with what they have now that oregon is theirs. after a while they become isolationist again, closing their borders and returning to their quiet, peaceful lives.
the states of arizona and utah are founded on californian land. after this, however, the republic's westward expansion halts.
slavery is increasingly becoming an issue. most of the population are for it, pragmatic as they are to have enough cheap labour to work on their lands, and with californians being much more idealistic than their republican brethren they want nothing to do with it.
the californians draw up a treaty with the republic of oregon which divides californian territory down the santiam river, makingaving republican north and a californian south. they trade freely across this border.
statehood is offered to arizona and utah, both of which gladly accepts as they are tired of hostilities with the apache.

1851: gold is discovered in california.
miners flood the region in a second gold rush. californian businesses begin to boom from the massive influx of workers and customers alike.
fresno becomes a prosperous city due to its strategic importance as a miners supply point. other settlements join it in this status.
hunting down of apache intensifies as the spanish settlers attempt to make south californina into productive farmlands, while fighting the apache raids which come because of land loss.

western republic declares war on england after they once again try to implement the anglo-saxon trade system in californian ports. the republic promises that after they've won this war they will turn their eyes towards australia, and finally free their former british allies from imperialist control.
western republic begins recruiting heavily and opening recruitment centres across northern californina and arizona.

Alt-history is always a magnet for spergs, but this takes the cake.

This isn't a real alternate history there's no steampunk

pretty much this entire thing is ai generated with some minor exceptions cause the ai kept going in places it wasnt supposed to and i had to curb it so it wouldnt branch out into some other gay shit. if it doesnt make sense, good. it isnt supposed to.

I love how everyone's shitting on @Deadwaste like he's some maniac who personally wrote this mess when he specifically stated in his post that its all SpergAI generated with only a couple of nudges here and there so that the algorithm didn't go full retard and start talking about wholly unrelated things.

so im jut gonna continue posting this fucking mess, dont worry it's almost over

western republic declares war on england after they once again try to implement the anglo-saxon trade system in californian ports. the republic promises that after they've won this war they will turn their eyes towards australia, and finally free their former british allies from imperialist control.
western republic begins recruiting heavily and opening recruitment centres across northern california and arizona.
they also offer plenty of cash for any working ship to aid the war effort, and this causes a boom in maritime jobs.
arizona becomes increasingly prosperous due to mining and prospecting. arizona's silver is in great demand in newly industrializing britannia.
general crop failures begin to occur in californina as apache raids displace small farming communities which loss access to their former land.

the spanish embassy offers one final peace treaty to the republic, offering to pay reparations for their act of "aggression" while also promising no further interference in californian affairs so long as they abide by the anglo-saxon trade system. they decline.
western republic signs a pact of mutual defence with the northern arizonian settlements as republic troops begin assembling on the border.

armistice is declared and both sides seek peace. however saboteurs from the republic undermine the treaty by destroying cattle shipments bound for the spanish empire, as well as harassing texas rangers who patrol californian borders.
further plot to buy a cannon foundry in mexico in order to manufacture their own weapons for renewing hostilities.
western republic declares renewed war on the spanish empire as a result.
maritime trade booms as many wealthy anglo-saxon industrialists begin to invest in the ongoing conflict, seeing it as a possible chance for western expansion.
choosing sides, massachusetts sends weapons to the republic while texas prepares its military for war.
mexican president porfirio diaz attempts to use this power struggle as an excuse to reconquer american territory.
western republic continues using its industrial centers as a source of weapons. the war has spread to the southwest as well, and new mexico struggles to defend its territory. both sides sign up civilians as irregular troops and send them to fight regardless of their lack of training or experience.

western trade companies begin to consolidate along the gila river as both sides attempt to exert dominance over this vital resource. the republic promises land and grants to any settlers who brave the dangers of this untamed region and fend off native attacks. the republic's expansion begins in earnest due to the anglo-saxon thirst for land and colonization.
texas becomes increasingly authoritarian as emigration begins of southerners unhappy with their lack of rights or reform under the current political system.
californium, a valuable resource becoming more and more essential in industrial processes, is discovered in the area and mining begins.
the number of small farms and ranch land dwindles as large corporations begin to buy out land for mining or oil drilling use. with this anglo-saxon influence no longer finding its way into the hands of private citizens working their own land, land ownership soon concentrates in fewer hands.

refugees displaced by the spanish-american war or unhappy with the current regime overwhelm the unions and find little sympathy. worker's rights are increasingly ignored as business leaders complain of the high wages they are forced to pay in comparison to the unregulated mexican industry..they ask for a program of military, political, and economic reforms to assist them in "meeting competition" from mexico.
small guilds of craftsmen and workers begin forming but are quickly thwarted by sabotage or buyouts. the unions become increasingly fragmented and ineffective as this process continues.
western republic continues to expand into alaska, which remains sparsely populated by natives and trappers. the republic boasts its membership is "one colony richer" as the flag is unfurled in eastern alaska. expansion up the se coast is planned for next year.

western republic's military grows as war with mexico continues. factories across the country gear up for production as the first steam-powered tanks are deployed to the frontlines. volunteers from new mexico learn how to operate the new machines while others are sent to the border between californium mines in the south and new mexican territory to defend against incursion.
industrial might comes at a price, and though the government uses loans to finance the war, public outcry begins against wartime taxation. many republicans blame the conflict on democratic incompetence and vow to enact their own "pro-business" policies and lower taxes if they take power.
social unrest intensifies.
western republic's continuing expansion into the north is planned for next year. as with alaska, the population is low but has potential resource wealth.
it is hoped that this new colony can ally itself with the natives and form a steady source of labor for the mining and lumber industries.
in other news, the battle of saltillo has resulted in a massive democratic victory. thousands of union troops under general marquez have surrounded and decimated the last loyalist forces commanded by general pablo lazcano. in a final desperate act, lazcano attempts to blow himself up along with the captured mexican flag (now modified into a republican flag), but is only succeeds in blowing off an arm along with destroying only a portion of the banner.

western republic has decided to award the first "mexican service medal" to soldiers on all sides of the conflict from both armies who showed "excellence in battle" and between the armies, it uplifts troop morale. war hero captain maria rivas is congratulated at a special flag raising ceremony and when asked about her experiences during the war, she merely smiles and says "the best moments were the ones spent with my brothers and sisters in arms united against a common evil".

1852:
a democratic wave washes over the western republic as left-leaning politicians point out that one of the most hotly disputed war goals (to re-annex new mexica) has been accomplished years before and at relatively low costs in comparison to the war as a whole. in addition, citizens are incensed over rising unemployment caused by increasing protectionism in the union.
many blame republican "capitalism" for the sluggish economy and the administration weathers a storm of editorials lambasting republican colonialism and military adventurism in central america. simultaneously, military and industrial expansion causes economic growth to slow as prices rise. tensions between state governments grow with many blaming the central government's policies for their unemployment woes.

western republic adopts an aggressive stance towards the allies of the union, continuing to enact protectionist policies and imposing several trade embargoes which the union defiantly refuses to acknowledge. this continues until 1855 when the union declares war in retaliation of these blockades and its demands that they be repealed. the second american civil war begins.
western republic immediately orders hundreds of new troop recruits into active duty and demand that all states provide them just as they would be in times of invasion.

democratic governor of thunder canyon, daniel becker, has ordered several fully armed companies to march on the city of mastodon where a large republican regiment is stationed. the purpose is to relieve pressure on the city, which has been facing hundreds of raids by native american tribes supported by the union in the west.
defending the flanks are several newly founded rangers units comparable to the union's own scouts. they are trained in camouflage, silent movement, and marksmanship. a plan is conceived to have them eliminate the most experienced raiders before the main attack even begins.
western republic tasked the unprecedented step of organizing a massive pan-union draft to defend the homeland from constant attacks.
both native american tribes and the union adopt a "total war" mindset and relentless fighting is expected to continue for years or even decades.
representative john hancock, the speaker of the house, rules over a temporary capital located at buffalo gap.
the city fathers have asked that only experienced gunfighters join the lawmen to defend the town.
for the first time in the republic's history, selective government subsidies are offered to towns who agree to host one of these new lawmen. a number of towns in central and southern california show immediate interest as lawlessness has plagued the area since the disbanding of several california rangers units over a decade before.
western republic has pledged to help confederate american army defend the southern states against potential invasion by mexican forces.
southern states are divided, though, still upset over the succession crisis two years ago.
popular loyalty largely depends on which state a person lives in. the confederate government has criticized the republic an autocracy that has abandoned federalism for a dangerous expansionist policy. republicans blast southern secession and its reliance on an immoral form of slavery.
western republic and the central american alliance are clearly antagonistic towards one another, yet both are stable democracies as well as trade partners to one another. this has led to some hope for a detente in the future.

western republic sees that it has the potential to unite the entire continent by "Reconquista". there is much work to be done.

"Arizona" has not been incorporated into the western republic mainly due to lack of military presence. the region contains large native american tribes and groups of bandits who have yet to be subdued. northwest mexico is far from stable, with bandit groups and even villages declaring open rebellion against the central government. just south of arizona is "Aztlán"
and is home to michoacans, toltecs, mixtecs, and coras. they have declared themselves a republic and are actively hostile towards outsiders. the region was host to several bloody rebellions during mexico's struggle for independence. lawlessness and oppression is common here and random battles are common.
the republican government has offered to sign a non-agression pact with the western republic. the two nations have plans to build a telegraph line that runs from the west coast of mexico to california in order to foster better communication and trade.
western republic is an economic giant and is on its way to being a military one as well.
the great lakes contain many small lawless towns.
the railroad runs from detroit to denver and small town prosperity has benefited from it. lawlessness has been a problem here since the canadian rebellion decades ago. just east of the great lakes is what remains of the indian nations. since acquiring their independence from canada, their seven tribal councils have fallen into fighting and disunity.
western republic and its people are very pro-business and very optimistic.

1853: the second american civil still wages on.
the second war with mexico was costly in lives and money and there is concern about how the war was started in the first place. president wool has been widely criticized for provoking a "defenseless" country when he sent troops to reinforce texas. it has been proven that mexico had plans to attack first.
confederate states are asking for western assistance but have not received much beyond public support.
the westerners do not want to give away valuable resources and manpower as they begin their own te struggle for dominance west of the mississippi. however, western leaders have made it clear that if the confederacy ceases hostilities with the union andreturns to it within one year, they will come to its aid. if not, they will be considered hostile and war will follow.

western republic officially declares war on the confederacy for violation of their peace treaty with the union. four full sized army divisions enter the southern states and begin to push back the rebels.
western generals begin calling for total war, especially against those in virginia. they believe these "loyalists" must be excised from the south in order for there ever to be peace.
the general public is very much in support of such operations as their families back home have been attacked by guerrillas many times before.
western republic suspects the hand of mexico in the civil war as many men and rifles have come from over the border to assist the confederates. these ranches, villages, and even towns are all seen as threats that must be stopped at all costs.

western republic declares war on mexico for answering threats with threats and for assisting the confederacy, even if it was only with words. small groups of special forces troops are sent to assist the union in putting down the confederacy as well to put an end to this menace once and for all. a telegraph line is going to be built from the western borders all the way down to new orleans.

western republic sees the treaty of san francisco as temporary and will cease to exist when the last trace of the confederacy is wiped out, even if that means annexation or seizure of confederate territory for itself.
western republic sends a message to mexican authorities demanding that they put an end to all hostile bands coming from their soil or mexico will also be seen as an enemy of the republic and a total war will be declared.

western intelligence also finds out that raids into the western territory have been rare due to government action and lack of popular support for such actions. orders are given that any mexican army units found in western territory are to be fired upon on sight.
constitutional convention begins over whether or not a monarchy would be best for the republic. many are eager to have the issue put to rest one way or another.
citizens begin to anticipate a war with mexica at some point if they are able to succeed in the war with the south. those in the south become more agitated with the republic as everyday they think there will be a lynch mob after them.
republicans begin pushing for even harsher measures against the south.
western republic begins to embrace harsher measures in general. people begin to support general perkins more and more due to his tough stance on the south (and also because he is a native son). the feeling grows that it would be better off if all the politicians were replaced by generals so that the "true will of the people" could be executed properly.
western republic officially declares war on mexico. the southern campaign successfully continues until there are hardly any fighters left in louisiana or east texas. the western campaign has been going well too with only a few major battles. the mexican forces are shadows of their former glory and caught off guard by the sophistication of the western army.
southern confederacy surrenders and generals proclaim a great victory for the will of the people and a day of celebrating is held.
during the celebrations, senator thomas entreats the citizens of the republic to remember that the south seceded and attacked and would do so again if they thought they could get away with it. general perkins agrees and says that they should all be annihilated for the sake of the people.
1854:
the last confederate holdouts are finally defeated in louisiana. they had stolen some steamships and were doing raids along the gulf coast towards florida and also texas. captured troops and civilians are executed.
western forces have reached mexico city and are bombarding it right now. initial skirmishing has begun.
western republic begins to divide up louisiana. some politicians are ready to give evangeline to the blacks who farmed there but were forced to flee when the confederates took over. others point out that most of the blacks fled to the northern states anyway when the war began, or joined the union army. some say they should go to the native tribes that lived there before, as they sided with the union and were driven out.
many veteran soldiers want the land as bounty for their service. the main reason louisiana changes hands is due to the mexicans siding with the confederacy and annexing louisiana before the war began, jutting down to texas which had a large mexican population. some politicians point out that if not for louisiana being annexed, the area would have had more time to get ready for the impending war.

suddenly, the president of the western republic is assassinated.
he was a well-respected general and flags are flown at half-mast throughout the republic. senator thomas is a likely candidate to succeed him. his main competition would be from senator perkins and general king.
the triumvirate has sided with the conservative, thomas, but the populace is anxious for stronger leadership.
western republic officially annexes new mexico and colorado. they also conquer Southern california. mexico becomes a puppet state.
western republic has vast holdings now. most citizens are content on solidifying the victories rather than expanding even more, although more expansionists begin calling for taking denver and then reaching the rich oregon territory.

western holdings now include: texas, louisiana, mississippi (which includes Alabama and other southern states), alaska, oregon, and parts of the mexican states of Morelos, Guerrero, California, and parts of Chihuahua. california is mostly uninhabited desert so there are plans to settle unarmed prisoners there.

the union holdings include:
nebraska, kansas, most of iowa, Illinois, West Virginia, eastern parts of Missouri and Tennessee, Kentucky, and the southern part of North Dakota. the capital is in kansa city, although the government does all it can to keep travel there limited as it is dangerously close to rebel territory.

1858: new president of the western republic
is senator thomas. he promises a kinder, gentler state than his predecessor. the executions have already ceased. some considered crowning him the last king of America, because he was at the very least king of the leftovers after the union victory but he was able to outmaneuver more extreme candidates.
Fortunes change in the west when a large deposit of gold is found in colorado and more in further exploration of denver.
hundreds of prospectors travel there looking for riches.
unfortunately, this includes prisoners. with most of the best land taken in the union especially in Kansas and Nebraska, more rebellious types and criminals are being sent to denver and other parts of the far west.
at the same time, mexican citizens wonder what is to become of their land as california develops a sizeable california dreamer population with their own dreams of secession. denver becomes a haven for mexican dissenters. it isn't just the californios, though. overland immigration from mexico slows down as it shifts to smugglers and others coming through denver.
just as things are looking up for the western republic, problems are on the horizon.
senator thomas seems unwilling to deal with the looming issues, at least not in the way his predecessor did.
he dreams of restoring democracy and yet he is blind to the coming danger.
the republic is not safe for the native americans there nor are they for the californios. greed and blind expansionism made the western republic a place where people could get "fresh starts" by simply crossing a border but now there is no such border since the union has controls at least united California and denver is more likely to expel californios than accept them.

western republic certainly puts the "republic" in its name for them but not for native americans or californios.

As for the union, well it seems to be winning the war. with colorado gold fueling its industry, it has been able to weather the global financial crisis caused largely in Britain. as america slowly rebuilds through centralization and heavy industry it is also expanding in earnest. the first wars of conquest were against spanish mexico and former mexican states.
afterward, the union decided to take on other global endeavors such as bombing hawaii back to the Stone Age and taking alaska from russia. with the creation of columbus, it was only a matter of time before the mainland was next on the list. there is attempted rebellion in dallas and elsewhere but the union government puts these down easily. with tank factories in Des Moines, a standing army of millions and with unlimited resources thanks to gold speculators in denver, chances are....
the union is going to win this battle for america once and for all.

this isn't what senator thomas wants to see.

a coup d'etat is started in the western republic.
all the senators and other politicians that were glad to see him go six years ago are assassinated. it doesn't matter whether they actually opposed thomas in the past or not, they all meet the same end. order is restored with police, military and union stocks rising. meanwhile, in the west, californios and others slave away under the hot sun hoping the senate will change its mind about sending them "home."
senator thomas' plans have worked but not for the intended reason. he did it to remove obstacles to his power grab, not to save democracy.
western republic is totalitarian now and it shows no signs of letting up. in denver, californios are hung from lampposts and shot in the street by troops who've just been through another gruelling drill.
some request medical attention, left for dead until they bleed out or only to finish off the wounded with a bullet to the head.
news comes in of the various roles in the assassinations as brigades are sent by train to denver. senator thomas rails against it in a speech asking americans whether they want democracy or tyrants to run their lives. riots break out across the republic and "fight or die" is upraised on state buildings.

1861:
after taking southern illinois from pro-union rebels the army continues its march toward dallas.
they meet much weaker opposition and consolidate their conquest of the southern city-states, making little effort at restraint with pro-democracy rebels who haven't committed any serious crimes yet. one such rebel is set to be executed for "sedition" but is saved by an unlikely messenger.
a soldier rides ahead with documents for general crittendon but gets distracted by locals.
he heads to a nearby saloon and drinks too much. a rebel spots him and slits his throat as he lies in an alleyway dying. the man manages to get the general's documents to him before bleeding out. crittendon suspects a trick as it's obvious what's been done here but he can't be sure, ordering the execution to be cancelled.
another lucky break for the rebels which will probably not last.

this is the 3rd failed attempt to take dallas. in all likelihood there will be a 4th and a 5th. general crittendon wants to avoid this cycle so he prepares for a siege. he begins with blockading the city then digs trenchfoxes toward it from each compass point. this takes around a month, finishing in july and prompting the prominent dallas sheriff walteriforten to surrender with his deputies.
he's executed for treason and his staff replaced with crittendon loyalists.
fall passes with the city being slowly starved into submission and by december its effects are highly visible. people are eating cats and dogs by this point, one woman even slices open her nursing infant and drains the blood for sustenance. general crittendon doesn't waver from his position that this is a necessary evil until around christmas when the last of dallas' infamous bandits hold up his camp.

1862:
the general marches into the city with his men and finds it empty of people. all have died or fled, some reaching wilderness and dying of starvation, others being reduced to eating dirt and plants as they crawl from dallas on all fours, finally entering a death more peaceful than the hell they found themselves in.
among the dead are carrion eaters including two mountain lions who'd made dallas their hunting ground.

dallas has fallen.

ragged and defeated men head into the city to clean it up but it's effort in vain. the damage is severe, around 3/4ths of the population are dead or fled, most of the buildings stand as ruins and along the roadside bodies rot. general crittendon puts a temporary halt to any mopping up operations and orders a one week break for soldiers and himself. at the end of it he's refreshed and ready to rebuild.
he sends new transport orders to generals spread across the southern states of west virginia, east kentucky, north mississippi, arkansas and north texas. new soldiers are en route to help him reconstruct his city and new citizens queue up to enter it. crittendon has big plans; several teams of surveyors are measuring out districts for future reconstruction while forbidding anyone from entering them until the city is safe again.
his goal is to restart the coal industry and bring it profit, turning dallas into a trading hub and a beacon of civilisation once again.
in dallas a mass grave is dug in a corner of the city, at least 150 bodies lie within it and more are added each day. they include workers who fell ill from lack of food and were too weak to flee on the road of death that led to them here in the first place.
with so many dead, no one will ever know the exact number.

within the week the first new coal mines are dug outside of the city with prisoners from the local jail. they're guarded by a few of the new soldiers and a war machine or two. the permanent force is recruited from state men who fall under general crittendon's command now.
the dallas star resumes its printing under new owners and carries on about it's duty.
the fifth of april was a hard day, but life will go on in dallas.

the city of dallas is renamed crittendon.

the new town hall's restored clock strikes twelve and crittendon finds itself in a triumphant new era.

1866:
general crittendon is appointed governor of the deep south province which the center of government. crittendon city is now one of the largest cities in america and its economic dominance, plentiful jobs and mild weather ensure it gains thousands of loyal new citizens every month as the reconstruction period ends throughout america.

the old south has been crushed and cowed under the new states but still throws spanners in the works over issues like re-enfranchisement of freed men. general crittendon is in charge of making sure his region maintains loyalty and law. small governments are set up in areas once controlled by other regions, this spreads government resources too thinly and many criticize it, especially when corruption later sets in.
this is due to men like william summers.

a former confederate general, summers is one of dozens of corrupt governors appointed by general crittendon in the south. he runs kentucky with an iron fist, ruthlessly maintaining political control throughsimulated war-era loyalties to the Union while at the same time mercilessly oppressing any poor whites and ensuring they can never become wealthy or educated.
generally, life in the south outside of crittendon city is miserable and would revolt if it weren't for constant ingrained fear of forced labor and re-location to the new york mining camps, where life ends after about a year due to bad conditions.
government range is set up from twin wings on either side of the southern mountain range running up and down the center of the western territory. crittendon city is extensively rebuilt.

life returns to pre-war levels of celebrity and excitement in crittendon city.
general crittendon dies quietly in his bed while winding down from a night of drinking in the expensive whiskey baracks. he's replaced by cleveland hingle, a competent general who runs the region with an even hand, employing crionetic directors who give various far reaching developing orders intended to make this once great nation even greater than it once was.
the treaty of louisville is re-negotiated allowing western territory to be annexed and the region is split into new states to give it a less linear feel.
fortune seekers of all kinds flock westward in pursuit of gold in the rocky mountains west of the crittendon. hingle himself sets out from crittendon city to explore the mines, nearly 70 years old by this point but still spirited enough to hunt for thrills beyond his armchair back in the city.
he is presumed dead a year after his expedition by flood downstream during a brave river crossing gone wrong.
returning eastward, hingles generals build 7 towers around the creeping eastern boundary of crittendon city, celebrating 7 decades of each state joining the union from 1840 to 1890 where it stands now. a monumental arch is constructed in crittendon city for all the people to appreciate and walk underneath as they did in paris or rome.

1874: 100 year anniversary of the failed american independence movement back in 1774.
southern states became ineffective seceded territories under the rule of corrupt warlords after an increasingly effective force of military coups. In response to this, and after years of consolidation, cleveland hingle's successor general wayne black takes heavy losses to conquer the south in what will be known as the southern cleansing.
states are re-created, with slavery legally abolished and identities re-shaped in the image of his late friend general hingle. military occupation remains for several years after as southern cleansing riots take place in the streets of various major southern cities.
western expansion continues at a rapid rate. small welfare states called electoral colleges form out west to promote democratic ideals to small confined electorates which in turn enter their candidate ids into what is known as the race of 40.
the leading candidate after the last 3 year Junto summit was won by wayne black, but the race of 40 does consider western candidates as well.
western states spring around crittendon, with 50 states in total. life is about growing and looking toward the future. elevated trains known as lightning lines begin to spread in crittendon and continues to spread through the southern states from whence it came.
grand buildings continue to be erected, sculptures and paintings. technology and industry continues to march forward. new steels, alloys and types of building continue to be exploited to improve quality of life.

1879:
hingles first successor, robert, dies after a gallstone operation. while served with distinction in the southern cleansing, he is seen as a man who lacked the gall or flair to take the city to the next level.

a city-state so powerful begins to emerge, many are more concerned on where all this may lead.
no longer content with their provinces nor household names, the 7 towers continue to grow taller.
western expansion slows as cities in the west begin to close in on one another. by 1890 it is evident that british clayton has started construction of a new city, claypoint, 20 miles westward from crittendon city.

1891:
last year of leadership for wayne black, he passes the torch to francis epstevenson as the leading candidate after a long, intensive race in which both considered each other as their only rival. wayne black dies due to overworking and stress as well as complications from pneumonia. buried at plateau forty northeast of the city-state he made his own. his name rises above the rest not because of his lengthy term of presidency, but due to historical significance.
western expansion has slowed to a halt as city-states begin to close in on one another, though such is not the case with the construction of the seven towers. over 8,000 feet high each, they are a sight to behold. the population, however, begins to consider them as a symbol of "oppression" or "darkness".
western candidates do not fare well in the race, considered as nothing more than clowns and fools by most.
the leading candidate, francis epstevenson, is a charismatic figure of humble origins.
the cities west of the seven towers are smaller and less influential, but begin to express their dissatisfaction with being ruled from the east. the race of 40 is won by a candidate from claypoint after he accuses epstevenson of wanting to convert the seven towers into an emperor palace.
epstevenson does not take the loss of his victory well. in a fiery speech he denounces the entire city-state as fools and serfs, and the seven towers as idols to a false god.
"let them build their towers! as high as they may reach, our guns will shoot down upon them!" he says.
the crowd goes wild, though some express their concern for his increasingly bloodthirsty nature.
epstevenson then is beginning to seize arms from the crittendon's militia and position them outside of the seven towers. by the end of the week, he has demanded that all muslims in the city-state report to special camps, where they will be "repatriated" back to arabia.
in response, several citizens in the islamic quarter protest. the militia opens fire, killing dozens of muslims as well as many others. riots break out in crittendon's islamic quarter. one of the seven towers is burned down in the chaos.
epstevenson declares martial law, and imposes a curfew. the following day, he seizes all media broadcast stations, to make sure that only he has airtime.

martial law is severely enforced by the end of the month. a protest in the islamic quarter turns violent when a single shot is fired, killing a militia member. military police enter the quarter and arrest everyone on the street. the men and boys are taken to an internment camp, the women to temporary refugee centers.
western provinces begin to secede from crittendon city-state due to this recent event.
this includes the city-states of new olives, new detroit, claypoint, fargo and redwood.
epstevenson's presidential term lasts another two weeks before he is assassinated in his office by a crittendon police officer. riots erupt throughout the city-state.
military police take to the streets, opening fire on crowds when necessary. many fall to friendly fire, but the rest are successful in quelling the civil unrest. martial law is now in full effect.
opposition is crushed, and all able-bodied men are forced to enlist in the military.
epstevenson's successor, wendall wilks, seeks to continue his policies. by this point, only half of crittendon city-state is left, with the epstevenson administration losing territory every day thanks to its brutal tactics.
western provinces have formed their own governments, independent from crittendon city-state. they call themselves the epstevensonian federation.
the epstevensonian army is bolstered by desertions from crittendon's military, now a shadow of its former self.
wilks doubles down on epstevenson's war in the orient, sending in wave after wave of fresh troops with no training or supplies. they are massacred before they even meet their enemies, but the epstevensonian army has no idea.
they take the chest full of medals and go home to their families, never aware of the slaughter that took place.
western provinces sign a defense pact in case epstevenson attacks. this angers the epstevensonian army, who launch an attack on the provinces. they are met with fierce resistance from the well-trained and prepared militas. citizens are drafted, including women and children, to form a second line of defense.

arabia declares war on crittendon as well as the rest of the united states. this marks the beginning of the great war.

1892:

crittendon is losing territory and resources every day. the war is unwinnable, at this point, but the wilks administration continues to try. propaganda strengthens the people's resolve, while bankrupting the government.
a large-scale tank offensive is launched, with heavy losses on both sides. tanks are used on both sides as their cannons become more powerful. heavy machine guns and canister shot is used to sweep the battlefield free of men and camels.

western provinces are all but won by the arabs. only fargo holds out, as the epstevensonian army is tied down in its defense. deep trenches and barbed wire lines prevent a conventional assault.
wilks dies of stress-induced tuberculosis, and the epstevensonian army advances into the city-state's heartland.
a final push begins to take fargo, but it is repelled by a line of machine guns and cannons on its western flank.
the military police all leave their posts to go fight the epstevensonian army.
fargo is looted and burned to the ground. the epstevensonian army hangs its leader for treason and begins executing political dissidents. unrest is at an all-time high.
western provinces declare independence from crittendon city-state. civil war soon follows.
federal troops sweep into the city-state, encountering heavy resistance from military police and epstevensonian army stragglers.
the epstevensonian army surrenders en masse.
military police remnants retreat into the wilderness, continuing their guerilla war. the war finally ends in 1902 when the last of them are tracked down and killed.
western provinces form their own government, called the the epstevensonian commonwealth. fargo is made the new capital.

1903:

pacifists take over the epstevensonian commonwealth government. their first act is to outlaw all armed forces, and their second is to create a breeding program, intent on increasing the population.
the black sunday (as it will later be known) floods entire cities and washes away entire towns. thousands are killed as entire city blocks are washed out to sea. in fargo, the entire city is submerged underwater when the man-made lake collapses under its own weight.

western provinces lose the majority of their farmlands. cities ban together and try to remedy the food shortage, but it is found that many areas are unable to be farmed anymore. crop rotation is abandoned by most people in favor of immediate survival.
a second black sunday floods more cities and towns. the epstevensonian commonwealth slowly slips into anarchy. water rises to the rooftops of buildings in fargo before long.

western provinces try to persuade the epstevensonian commonwealth government to allow immigration into their barren lands. they are rebuffed and told to solve their own problems, but the offer is extended to all fargo citizens.
fargo citizens take their chances with the wild, erratic river rather than stay in the rapidly flooding city. many drown or are killed by criminals who see this as an opportunity.
western provinces become a new country without much fanfare.
a few people wonder why it is called the epstevensonian commonwealth anyway.
western provinces become a thriving nation with a surplus of farmlands and peace. this peace is only broken when the flood-ruined city-states begin to wage war on the country they believe is responsible for their problems: the epstevensonian commonwealth.
western provinces again becomes a thriving nation with a surplus of farmlands and peace.
the citizens remember their heritage.
in fargo the epstevensonian museum is protected at all costs while the rest of the city crumbles around it.
western provinces become a thriving nation with a surplus of farmlands and peace. once more, they remember their heritage. old runes mark land and city alike. no longer do people share a last name, but a first name followed by the word son or daughter of .

1904:
epstevensonian commonwealth fades from existence. floods permanently submerge fargo.
a monument records the loss.

western provinces annexes epstevensonian ruins, finally bringing it all under one banner after years of conflict. an ancient book is found explaining the meaning of names. it is burned, and nobody is allowed to have a name except for son of or daughter of.
western provinces launches an invasion against the weakened city states that surround their borders. their new guns bring them swift victories. the final city state falls in less than a year.
In celebration, western provinces sets the captured seat of government alight; prisoners are burned along with it.
western provinces commits its own genocide when it pushes all inhabitants of epstevensonian descent into a pit and has them buried alive. modern marvels such as small-scale electric lights and barbed wire are used for the first time.
western provinces shows that it is an industrial power.

1906:
western provinces elects a ruling body of seven. it is decided that there should never be more. last of the name epstevens die out. Wild massacres of dissidents follow: for one week, western provinces becomes a police state in which nobody is innocent.
western provinces assemble an ornate building for the ruling body to meet in. all other citizens are visitors for as long as they are inside it. only guards are citizens. guards are always male and at least six feet tall.
a law is passed that they can never do anything else other than guard work. babies born with potential to not be fit for guard work are to be killed at birth by their mother.
western provinces begins full-scale manufacturing of military equipment and armaments. those who oppose the ruling body are labeled enemies of the state. ruthless laws on speech and activity are implemented to ensure enthusiasm on the subject. thousands of dissidents and outspoken critics "vanish" without a trace.

western provinces perpetrates an underhanded assassination plan against another nation without giving any reason for it. internal checkpoints dot the road and the guards rule with an iron fist. western provinces is officially a police state.
western provinces launders money and arranges illegal drugs to ensure a steady income for its ruling elite. dissidents speak out about how drugs are bad. the national identity becomes one of paranoia: all other nations are out to get them, and they have to be prepared at all times.
western provinces slowly becomes a cult of war and distrust.
western provinces declares war on the nation that they arranged the assassination of their leader from before. ruthless bombing raids follow ruthless infiltrations; western province fighter aircraft streak across the sky like wasps, unleashing explosive fury upon helpless men below who are powerless to defend themselves. western provinces soldiers march into battle with fanaticism in their eyes and a determination to win at all costs.

the final civil war commences
the ruling body decides that the general population has become too crowded and too resource-consuming to upkeep. a system of five-year plans sets about earning that the general population, after a series of purges, is only 9% of what it once was. internal security apparatus is strengthened to watch for dissent and kill swiftly. sterilization of people is strongly encouraged. western provinces becomes a grey wasteland and dying nation.

western provinces wins the war and is untroubled by all of its surrounding nations. the ruling body enacts measures to encourage people to have large families as that is the only way that they can guarantee a future for their nation. western provinces becomes more fanatical than ever before, employing religious dogma with state propaganda. western province scientists develop harsher methods of population control. children are encouraged to report any dissident behavior exhibited by their parents. religion and the government become one "church".
western province introduces religious education for children. the "church" pushes salvation through warfare indoctrination, emphasizing how fighting for the "church" is the same as fighting the evil that God struggles against, so that those who die a warrior's death will be welcomed into heaven. western province becomes increasingly militant, jingoistic and xenophobic, and spends more money on the military than anything else. western provinces develops weapons of mass destruction. western province enters a dark century know as "the great cleansing"

1907: denmark invades what remains of the american continent. they are very confused by what has been going on.
western province convinces them that they need to attack russia so that both states can face off against a common enemy.
western provinces launches "final solution", an event where hospitals and asylums are burned, thousands of people who are ill or have disabilities are massacred, women are encouraged to have more children to help boost the population, and dissidents are killed. the military protects these groups. western province realizes that they have no right to decide who should die, so this policy is ended.

western province completely stops researching physics and begins focusing on xenobiology, as they need to figure out how they can create a subspecies of humans that are less sentient, less intelligent, hard-working, and numbers-filled. western province becomes increasingly fascinated with the occult and ritual at this point. lately they've become obsessed with creating demons via making deals with lesser evils in order to utilize their magic abilities in warfare.
western future is wedded to the past.

denmark declares war on the western province.
the united kingdoms of great britain and northern ireland declares war on the western province.
western province launches its werewolf legions against russia.

the danish realize the americans are so stupid, they think dogs are werewolves. the danish laugh at the americans and decide to leave them be.

western province begins rounding up homosexuals and lobotomizing them, in order to turn them into Ghouls. this applies to anybody considered subversive or otherwise problematic. western province rounds up and lobotomizes the homeless as well, to create an army of super-powered Ghouls that are loyal to the government. beginning a policy of purging the western province of "200lbs or under" individuals. the idea is to make sure no one starves or freezes this winter.

1910: the western province is wiped out due to plague.
there are no survivors.

britain decides to recolonize the americas.
sweden wants a piece of the pie, as seemingly nothing is going back to how it was.
everything west of the Mississippi is left to nature and wild animals.

everything east of the mississippi is swedish-english territory.
most inhabitants have no idea what happened to the west... just that rumors say it is cursed now. much like the old american government did.

1957(present day):
no major war has broken out, yet. the united government of england and scandanavia is a true peaceful alliance. they are realizing the naivety of the governments before them, the shortcomings of "the man in cellar", a term en use for the western province leaders sheltered from what was really happening in their nation. once expansionist in nature, the nations war machine is now working on a massive bureaucracy which will be used to re-establish law and order in the land.

an expedition to go westward is planned by the government.
their intent: to explore and settle the fine unknown land that used to be the wild wild west. but conspiracy theories abound... what really happened in the "western province incident"? if it was plague why didn't it spread further? there are stories of armies of undead ghouls trapped west of the mississippi, and rumors that swedish-english expansion west has already begun, under less than legitimate pretenses.
either way, it'll be lawless land, until groups begin to settle there. and its going to take awhile for anybody to learn what is really out there.
