Alan Wake II - The highly anticipated sequel that no one cared about to a game from 2010 that no one cared about

The game is simply not as good as the first Alan Wake.

When Alan Wake in the first game is confronted by evil darkness monsters and he has to shoot them, he gets arrested and he tries to explain his actions while trying his hardest NOT to talk about monsters and darkness entities, because it sounds insane.

When Saga in the second game is confronted by a walking corpse that kills 2 deputies and a sheriff that vanishes, the other cops go "hey I heard gunshots what's going on?" and Saga says "Yeah the body in the morgue got up and killed people. Go take care of it." And they do. With no pushback. No one questions Saga, no one says, "That sounds fucking crazy. I think YOU might've killed them," nothing.

The flashlight in the first game would burn darkness even passively, and you could burn battery to boost the light to burn off darkness quicker. Now the flashlight by itself does nothing and you MUST use boost to burn darkness. This means that when you get a passageway blocked with darkness blobs, that's 3 charges minimum that you're consuming.

In the first game, removing the darkness shield from Taken meant that they would lose all their powers as well, specifically their super-speed dash. Now you can remove the darkness shield and they will STILL zip around and be super annoying to fight.

The game is fine, but it's not as good as it should've been, especially for 13 years of waiting.

Old Gods of Asgard are still great.

I was seriously worried about Saga being seemingly needlessly black but the story doesn't work without it. She's probably the worst Remedy main character but nothing of that is down to her skin tone.

she's Mr Door's daughter. Mr Door is Martin Hatch from Quantum Break (2016) who has become a "shifter" and can move through all of time and space and he is black. Lance Reddick played him but he is obviously dead now so they got David Harewood.

Game is kino. Sam Lake won.
Which explains why she was white in the preview images and only recently was unveiled to be black, after Sweet Baby entered the picture

Just finished this after frankly struggling to give a shit about most of it outside of the first few hours.

I loved the first game and the DLC and Control was really good as well. AW2 is fucking boring. It's 25 hours long and you visit the same handful of locations repeatedly with slight changes and a good chunk of it is the forest. The story is utter dogshit that thinks it is much smarter than it actually is. Saga and Alan repeat themselves and explain everything over and over and fucking over again. The "Mind Space"/storyboard thing is pointless busywork.

I'm pretty disappointed with it and completely baffled at people claiming it is a GOTY contender. These people must hate games with actual, you know, gameplay.

FBI Agent but it's just a veneer. She doesn't act or talk niggery at all.
Yeah she isn't walking around swallowing fistfuls of cornstarch and wondering what the beeping noise in her apartment is but the game still does the obnoxious feminist shit of propping her up like she's amazing and, frankly, I don't like looking at black people. Nigresses least of all.
The game is simply not as good as the first Alan Wake.
Feels like a game you barely even play. Whole thing clearly just wants to be an HBO show, including nigger and woman worship.
Unfortunately this isn't just journalists anymore, it's your average person that plays games.
This game is amazing, it's just like a heccin movie.

So we've unanimously agreed that the political messaging was totally unnecessary and doesn't belong in the game at all. The gameplay itself has received several downgrades with some people calling it a "walking simulator". Others say that you Remedy's charm is still in some parts of the game.

Obviously, Alan Wake II is not the game we had hoped for. My question is this: Is there any chance of the developers acknowledging this criticism? They could just write off a remake to the popular Max Payne series to be an instant success, but remakes have failed before.

Hatch was already that. You can find a log in QB where he mentions he was a guy who accidentally wandered into a naturally-formed time machine and after his return to the land of time he decided to open up a door to time travel to the rest of us.

alright ive finally finished the thing. sure i didnt do much in terms of side content and it took me about 16 hours of total game time to do this, but i did finish the game. ending feels like theyre setting up for some dlc in the near future. an alan wake 2's american nightmare perhaps
