I'm guessing they were mandated to make a black woman a major character, and address "racial issues", to get their Sweenybux. It is legit hilarious they took a character named Saga Anderson and made her black. And she's related to Tor and Odin. It really does scream copy/paste job.

I'm assuming she had to be black too, because if they just needed a woman protagonist they could have Jesse from Control be a major player. I thought that's where Alan Wake 2 was headed after that one DLC. Guess that's not high enough up on the progressive stack.

I didn't like the first Alan Wake, gameplay was ass and both the characters and story didn't click with me, so i wasn't interested in AW2 in the slightest but what i am reading ITT sounds absolutely retarded. probably not, its too entrenched. we have never "pendulum swing" away from shit like forcing faggots into everything or a token in everything or women in everything. At best it becomes normalized the same way people on the internet consider femStarbuck a well written female character and use her as an example to bash Captain Marvel who's a hotshot pilot that's rude and gets into bar fights and extremely overpowered which they proclaim is not at all what Starbuck was.

Think about how much the RLM crew bash the 1980s seasons of TNG and how fucking no one talks about how great TOS was, or at minimum goes "its great for its time" despite both being considered obnoxiously woke for their era but are fairly regressive nowadays to the point even Black Mirror had an episode bashing them.

Between Microsoft going full retard on gamepass and sony's fuck ups i'd be surprised if the console wars still end up being a real thing. there's almost fuck all in terms of exclusives and what ones there are don't justify the cost of a machine. by the end of the decade it will just be Steam and nintendo, who'll still be selling games for the switch.

I'm genuinely surprised at how much I like this game so far. I was expecting Woke nonsense but there actually hasn't been any. Sure, they Blackwashed the FBI Agent but it's just a veneer. She doesn't act or talk niggery at all.

Honestly, the fact that they just took a white woman and replaced her with a nigger, only adding a few Sweet Baby lines and changing nothing else is even worse: It shows they didn't even care to make it woke and quit partway thru, leaving a confused mess. Fuck that, at least go thru with it if that's what you want to do.
Hope there is a mod to whitewash the character again and remove the cringy lines, THEN I will think about playing it.

I finished it the other day. I really enjoyed it, really good story. I know it's not a popular opinion in places like this, but I think they did enough to justify having a black female as part of the main protagonists. The sour part is that she was certainly meant to be a white women up until a certain point. There are some things that kinda justify a race swap like...

Spoiler: Ending spoilers

Tor/Odin Anderson being related to her, somehow? But it's revealed through a song of all things that they were racist towards Saga's black father and her mother ran away as a result of this. They're sorry now of course. Saga's father is also foreshadowed to be some sort of powerful entity that is between realms named Mr Door, who is black and is quite an interesting person in my opinion.
I also appreciated that Saga isn't overly girl bossy in an obnoxious way like RE3make Jill. There is an out of context part where some part of her says "I'm tired of white assholes telling me what to do." Which is the dark place playing and poking her with all her little fears and doubts. She acknowledges this line of thinking is stupid and pushes back against it but in the voice acting you can tell that sometimes this stuff gets to her, mostly everything constantly saying her daughter is dead when she is supposed to be alive. There was a 'stupid white male' line in Alan wake 1 as well, for the same reasons, Alan's fears on how his wife might possibly hate him for all of this. He acknowledges that this is the dark place playing with his fears as well in the same way.
At the end, Saga doesn't steal the limelight for Alan and even helps build him up by saying that he is also a hero and how he stopped this thing in 2010 and can do it again. I think most media with a black female lead of some sort would steal the limelight but she shared it and was rather friendly with Alan despite him possibly killing her daughter indirectly.


Past that, I did not like the ending. It just feels like nothing huge was accomplished other then having a lot more people and allies in the dark place, but everything is back to square one now. IDK what the hell they are doing with Tom it feels like they made him into a totally different character and is a different person now? Not that Tom was interesting in the first place, this is technically better. Maybe it's a retcon. Still feels cheap to just have Alan edit the story's ending to say "No u" and then win. If you can call it a win, I guess.

I get it's still certainly a race swap, but maybe we can all agree if we have to have a race swap, having at least some effort put into it like this game did is certainly better then anything disney has ever done. It helped enough I can look past it and I really enjoyed the game, story (except ending), and characters.

she's Mr Door's daughter. Mr Door is Martin Hatch from Quantum Break (2016) who has become a "shifter" and can move through all of time and space and he is black. Lance Reddick played him but he is obviously dead now so they got David Harewood.
