Corporations probably threatened to pull their ads off the site if the dislikes weren't removed. Next up might be the comment section, severely limited or turned into a paid only feature.

Corporations - and maybe governments - clearly miss when TV was the main medium of mass media. FCC (or other government) regulations and corporations controlled what people saw on TV, so they could get away with influencing popular opinion with little or no public dissent. It's not even social media anymore, it's just worse T.V
That makes the way TV worked before the internet sound pretty dystopian. The only way to interact with the content is to watch it and like it.
I'd say this is worse. T.V was fairly passive. You knew there was no way to interact with the show and the creators, short of writing a letter. You could turn the T.V off I guess. Some shows sucked and everyone kind of knew it, but no matter what they'd come on at their scheduled time. That makes the way TV worked before the internet sound pretty dystopian.
No wonder art of people getting brainwashed by TV was made back then.
It's in effect for me, can't vouch for other countries, though.so is it in effect or what i still see the dislikes
This will be less helpful than downvotes, too. The average granny looking up a tutorial is not aware of Twitter culture. She'll think it's just kids being silly.Great, now comment sections are just going to get spammed with "rAtIo". I swear Youtube becomes more like Twitter with each passing day.

It's a slow burn update. I got an email that says "Otherwise, your access to public dislike count data via the Data API will end on December 13, 2021." so that could be the cutoff point.Apparently dislikes are still visible if you're not logged in:

How long until this is patched out as well?
I'll laugh if they're so incompetent that they break some integral functionality while trying to get rid of every little instance of the number of dislikes.Apparently dislikes are still visible if you're not logged in:

Likely case, I can still see them in US.It's a slow burn update. I got an email that says "Otherwise, your access to public dislike count data via the Data API will end on December 13, 2021." so that could be the cutoff point.
