Holy fuck; do you not think they had pilot attrition in mind when they designed and manufactured the ejection seat in the first place, otherwise there is literally no point for a bean counter to put an ejection seat in an aircraft in the first place if you cannot have a useful pilot at the end. Human lives don't matter to the people who decided defense budgets but saving pilot training hours sure do. John McCain for example ejected numerous times and had his legs broken by gooks and still managed to fly afterwards, all the way to congress even where he continued to fuck up our country. If you think every person who ejects becomes Stephan Hawkings you're mentally crippled. You only fuck your shit up if you are not strapped in correctly or eject with aircraft in fucked up position.

I believe BikeLock may have been referring to why they don't just shoot down the pilots when they are defenseless and slow moving when parachuting down, and that answer to that is doing so is against the unwritten rules of engagement and is considered dishonourable. I once watched an interview of a German WWII fighter pilot talking about how during dogfights there was one American pilot who was picking off all the pilots that had ejected when the Germans refused to do so, and so he and his team took great effort to shoot at the Americans plane carefully enough to not hit the pilot but to force him to eject, then the German took great pleasure in returning the favour to that one pilot.
