Armored Core

On that note, the best way we can counter this Soulsniggering is to actually show people how previous Armored Core games are played. A lot of people have little to no experience with the series in general and the recent IGN interview with Miyazaki and Yamamura doesn't help describing the game so people keep thinking it's close to a Sols game. If you see anyone showing interest in the series, show them the fundamentals of previous games first to set their expectation accordingly.
Every single time I discuss the series with people, it's always prefaced with: "This is mech autism to the extreme. If you aren't keen to sit there and look through parts lists to math out energy, weight, heat or ammo usage, you're going to hate this shit." I don't think I could ever sell this on the angle of "souls hard", it's just mech autism.

Exactly, let them know what they are getting into and have them set there expectation accordingly. I suspect most people will buy Armored Core 6 just because it's made by From Software and not because it's Armored Core.

I played the original AC1 back when I was a kid but don't remember it well. The AC I played most was Verdict Day on the ps3 and I enjoyed it a lot but there were many fundamental issues with it. I hated the jumping mechanic and how your airborne height had an invisible ceiling you couldn't exceed unless you jumped up a wall or a building. AC4 looked more interesting in how it was full 3D movement. Also watching Verdict Day videos now reminds me how fucking horrendous switching between scan mode and target mode was. The idea of swapping to a mode where you can't shoot but your energy recharges faster is cool but having the screen flash between regular vision and an awful shade of blue is very disorienting.

Customization was cool and it had cool features like UNACs(AI controlled mechs you could construct and program to aid you in missions). The mulitplayer focus was also pretty cool as I enjoyed it but having it gimp the game after the servers went off was a big mistake.

Oh and the story sucked, court readings have better voice acting.

I've kept playing Armored Core 3, following a guide purely to not miss the hidden parts (already missed the first one...), outside oft hat just doing my own thing. Thing is I went in HARD on the arena after I noticed nothing was capable of dealing with the shoulder mounted machine gun in an open area and with increased targeting area. So I'm disgustingly rich and don't know if I've kind of gone a bit too hard in there and screwed some of the experience for myself since money is now not an issue to build whatever the hell I want. Hope some of the arenas can deal with my chunky thread machine gun setup and force me to change my getup.

On the standard missions I'm still facing things I can two shot with the beam rifle and when that doesn't work saber, I did find the take down the dive bomber mission "difficult" till I got my bearings to locate it, so I hope a good chunk of missions keep me off balance and force me to reconfigure constantly.

Was looking into playing 4 again and what a pain in the ass, to keep it simple running it on Xenia (360 emulator) seems to be the best way to experience it because RPS3 still has issues with the game and you can't get the latest regulations. Try to play it officially and you also get fucked on the regulations because they were pulled from the PS3 servers and I think the 360 servers too, probably the same problem for 4A. Was gonna try on my PS3 but nobody has any copies of the regulation files so even with a hacked console you're still out of luck for it. Finally found a comment from a bugman on reddit where he uploaded his 360 4 and 4A regulations so I'm going to give that a shot to see how it goes. All this to make me realize I never should have deleted anything off my PS3, and that I'm fucking glad I have a copy of 4A and all the patches so I never have to deal with it for that one. I'm also wondering if those problems are limited to the NA/EU releases or if the JP ones have the same issues?

E: Played through the first mission just to see if it works and it ran great and had no problem installing the patches for regulations. This definitely seems like the way to go for 4.

I for one would like Souls loreniggers to be kept far away from Armored Core as much as possible if their only frame of reference are souls games. See Vaati, fucker's so bland and the only thing he got is the narration voice used to regurgitate reddit lore discussions.
EDIT: On that note, if you want to watch content creators who actually know and played Armored Core, I recommend Ouroboros, JeeNine and maybe Armored Core Lore on YouTube.
Even worse if they’re british. Grifting faggots literally regurgitate everything someone else said verbatim and then maybe detract from it with heavily political and personal biases. While of course pretending to be “openminded” and saying retarded mannerisms of adding silent U’s to words like armour instead of armor and going “to be honest [lie they pulled out of their ass]”

The algorithm seems to be in full swing; I'm getting a number of Armored Core videos and shit in my reccomendation, despite only watching the trailer for 6, that one guy saying while it will be like Souls, then the cowboy video rebutting that video. Surprisingly haven't seen a surge on Twitch yet.

Twitch would necessitate streaming the games, I'd think, and, as far as I understand it, the latter half of the AC library is bitch and a half to get working in emulators.

I've been getting a TON of white glint and for answer recommendations lately.
For answer/4 looks very similar to Killer 7 at a glance from the way lighting is handled and how empty the maps are. Really jarring going from the photorealistic white glint trailer to basically Killer 7.

Armored Core is going to be nothing like a 'souls game' and I imagine it'll be picked up quick and dropped hot once long term streamers realize what the game is like.

But I can also see it gaining a solid foundation of people that love to comb through build and enjoy Armored Core...similar to Dark souls always having a presence but I wouldn't relate the two at all.

I don't think it'll hit Dark Souls levels of presence just because of the focus on Single Player.

Dark Souls has a large persistent presence because of the PVP/Co-op PVE integrated into the single player experience. Armored Core seems like it's going to segregate those two aspects extremely hard so players that want the Dark Souls Invasion Experience will have to stick to Elden Ring for the time being.

The way Souls games' multiplayer aspects work and mountain of lore discussion will keep these games relevant for some time, hell even years like original Dark Souls. If From segregates single and multiplayer in AC6, the multiplayer side have to be really good for competitive players and streamers to work with and to keep the game relevant. Hell, Elden Ring's colosseum mode is perfect for that, just add various map with good cover and obstacles that you have to be mindful of.

Armored Core 6 will be one of those games that will (possibly, if it’s good) be loved by fans of the franchise, but hated by souls nerds once they realize what it’s actually like. And I like Souls. It’s like the people who went into Elden Ring expecting Skyrim, but instead got Dark Souls. Newfags really are a tumor on any franchise.

Oh yeah, soulsfags may also not know that Patches originally came from Armored Core. You know they’re gonna be coming up with “multi-verse” theories once patches is in Armored Core 6.

I don't know. Armored Core seems to be the new "current thing", and those who were expecting armored souls would've fled as soon as they fired up an emulator.

With the direction the series was headed with Armored Core V, it was leaning more towards Co-op like a mecha monster hunter game. But there was also an atrociously bad deathmatch mode where you essentially had 1 life. Respawning as a slow as fuck pilot with an airliner strapped to their ass per FROMSOFT fashion. Sounds as awful to play as you'd think. So Multiplayer is definitely DOA.

Also didn't know they had a very bad official multiplayer explanation video from some weeb until today:

I think an online arena mode could sustain itself okay, build up from there if people want more.

Also finished Silent Line and it was pretty good, linear canon was op and seemed to be the meta though. Arena was braindead compared to 2 and 3 because they would just rush straight you for the most part so you could blast from where you start and win by the time they reach you.

Did you defeat the additional contenders in the arena in 3? I think it's post story content, but about 10 or so new pilots show up in the arena and they're all at the bottom of the ranking. But the guy at the very bottom is difficult as IIRC, you can't lock onto him and have to manually aim everything. Makes him a little more difficult to try and dodge his barrages and hit him at the same time.

Kept doing some missions on Armored Core 3. First of, FUCK getting the hidden part from the escort mission. Tried it like 8 times till I gpt it. And since it's on the longer side and you immediately get the hunt the AC with a chipset mission, it took a long time to know I had fucked up.

It was liberating going full ammo instead of pew pew lasers for that one and since I'm filthy rich now I'll start using more solid shell stuff and not worrying about saving money.

On the arena fromt, the B rankers are starting to not just keel over and die to the shoulder mounted machine gun. That they all love to quick hop and hover doesn't help since the vertical axis of the controñs is something I haven't gotten particularly competent at, though the Parking stage does stop that being an issue and allowed me some cheeky wins. I am having a hard time with threads in there now and have a hard time keeping them on my sighst and off me, so will have to experiment.

Dumb question though, is there any trait that lets me know at a glance if a back weapon can onle be used on the move with threads/spider legs? I gather that anything that is lockon or rockets can be shot on the move by everything and the rest only on stable legs, but just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious.

As for AC6, it will get a ton of press and sell a lot purely on it being a From game, not so sure it will capture the heart of the masses and even if it's awesome it won't be getting a game of the year. But I think enough people will like it to give the saga a new wind. I've only played 1 amd 3, but that style with a dual stick control and more elaborate melee options I'd be all for.

What will kill it's longetivity is that most of the time it's just menu, so it's pretty bad on the stream playing front. I guess some speed running and locked build challenge runs could be a thing but I highly doubt those would catch on like the souls versions. Multiplayer could be the other thing to keep it in the zeitgeist and I'd love arena battles vs humans, but I much rather they focus on single player to start.

Yeah, I think the one you're talking about is Exile, forgot my set up but he took me a little bit. No one came close to him in SL.

I think anything that's not a missile launcher or satellite will put you into stance unless you have the op intensify thing but that's post game.

All I want is another game on the level of Last Raven. 4A was close, but it's not quite there yet. I really hope that 6 can pull it off.
