Assassin's Creed thread

Anyone feel like making guesstimates on the next round of lay-offs at Ubisoft?

I'll give it 2 months +/- until we get a next round of 'unfortunate news' within Ubi.
They were already announced for 2025 on Feb 13th. Since the game has released I would expect the layoffs to start being announced very soon, so they can sweep the people from their payroll before the Annual shareholder meeting in July. (Was July 11th last year)

The sales numbers for Q1 of 2024 were announced a week after the annual shareholder meeting. So I would expect to see the REAL numbers for AC Nigger-in-Japan to drop around that time unless another investor call happens in between for some reason that talks about it.

(I interpret that €200m number has a drastic cut to payroll, if not closure of an entire studio.)

[EDIT] For context important to Remember where Ubisoft is right now. Running all their major franchises into deep shit has been a great success story.1742575850340.png

After watching some gameplay I'm blown away by how bad the voice acting is. Did they just give up during development and use AI to fill in the voice lines?
My theory is that after they cut Yasuke from the first two thirds of the game they used AI generated voice lines to fill in the areas where Yasuke was supposed to be with Nowe lines.

That's not going to save them either. The only other games they've got slated for 2025 at this point is a Heroes of Might & Magic game, while having a 400 million dollar loss in revenue for the quarter ending on Dec. 31st, that AC Shadows didn't stand a chance in hell of making up, and some mobile tom clancy bullshit no one wants.

And it's already started to drop off again today.

And their twitch viewership has fallen off as well. 5x the channels streaming it since it launched, with less than half the viewership split across that.

On Youtube, Synthetic Man was the most watched channel streaming the game with like 2K+ viewers, lmfao
Keep in mind same thing happened with KCD2
Nobody is watching this shit, nobody cares about it, and nobody but Ubislop nigger cattle is playing it.
It's over for them, this is now the acceptance stage of Ubisoft's bankruptcy.

Some big channels streamed it on release day, mostly because they got paid to do so. But nobody is going back to that slop game.
Not even the big Ubisoft defenders are actually playing the game right now, because the gameplay is to terrible. Showing that mess of choppy movements and interior fights with weapons clipping through all walls is just absolute braindead.

And then you have the retarded flintlock weapons, which characters use as some type of "super attacks" where you have to dodge at the right time to avoid getting hit. But it is all so telegraphed that it is super easy to avoid and hilariously impractical as an actual attack. To make it work as a game mechanic the entire thing is so slow that you could step up and just kill anyone with a melee weapon if they actually tried that. Just overall terrible designed combat, especially since there are actual games out there that showcase fluid combat using Japanese weapons.

I have no idea how anyone would see this and say "great, lets release it!"
But this is the company that released the quadruple-A game Skull & Bones because they took the DEI money to create it and were contractually obligated to release it.

I wouldn't be surprised if this humiliation ritual and emasculation of Hattori Hanzo was just to own le epic chuds because everyone thought that an AnalCreed game where you play as a ninja under Hanzo (keep in mind that AnalCreed Spookz is the first game where you play as an actual historical figure rather than just interacting with them) was what they would do. In fact, according to some leaks that was supposed to be the original pitch for the game. I know it's been said 100 times already but it's crazy how much they've fumbled the bag with this one. Japanese history and folklore has so much pre-existing shit regarding assassins in the form of shinobi and their tales and they have done NOTHING with it, NOTHING! They could've set up rivalries with other famous historical ninjas of the era, have them be working under the Templars. Again, Japanese folklore literally already had a pre-installed rivalry involving Fuma Kotaro of the Hojo clan and Hattori Hanzo, there's so many legends and fables detailing duels between those two guys. They did the equivalent of the ball being near the goal line in a football match with no opposing player in sight but just before crossing it the player trips on his shoelaces in spectacular fashion and breaks his neck when he falls.

Fuck Ubisoft, enjoy bankruptcy.
Yeah basically. For all intents and purposes this should have been an easy slop game. How they fucked it up this bad is inconceivable.
I remember too back in the day many people were asking for a game set in feudal Japan as far back as the old days like the Ezio trilogy times and I remember their response was literally something like "It's low hanging fruit so we don't want to do it." so it makes me wonder too if this is perhaps out of spite? Not spite towards culture although I'm sure that's a factor but spite towards having to make a game they claimed they didn't want to?

People bitch about the old games' combat system but I think 3 had some fun (if glitchy) combat moments when you had to grab a human shield to avoid a musket volley. I even enjoyed the glitchy mess that was Black Flags combat system because shit it's a pirate game it's meant to be enjoyed.
Even aside from all the DEI bullshit and their quest to insult Japan, it's so retarded they used the same janky shit RPG combat mechanics as origins Valhalla and Odyssey. Like you can somewhat enjoy combat in Valhalla because it's more of a Viking simulator than an AC game, it was somewhat understandable that Bayek wouldn't be trained in some elaborate combat art by a seasoned master, but ffs you have a ninja AND a "samurai" in the game you expect their to be more fluid and brutal combat than this shit.

I'm convinced the only people buying this game are retards just trying to show the chuds and mouth breathers who just buy any slop that comes out.

Jesus Christ the voice acting I've seen in the videos I've watched is like 90s PS1 level bad. How do you fuck up basic shit like voice acting in 2025? I can't remember the last time a game that wasn't slavjank had bad voice acting across the board.
It's not just bad but very stereotypical too. Complete with fake fortune cookie proverbs it creates this atmosphere of a AA slavjank title trying to genuinely make the best asian game they can but ending up making fools of themselves, doomed to be mocked by a youtuber 20 years later in a review.
Except this is genuine, they thought this was AAAA quality voice acting and that nobody would find it even a little bit offensive(and if they did, good. Fuck these slant eyed chuds, they're probably all racists anyways).

Honestly might have something to do with the SAG-AFTRA strike. Destiny has run into a similar issue with their latest update and instead of recasting, they simply didn't record any lines for certain characters and are forcing players to read subtitles during long segments of dead air.

I guarantee most of this game's voice acting was completed well before the strike began.

For 250-350$Million they could have recast some characters and get new voice acting. They delayed the game after the backlash last year and spent another 20$m on it after all.

Has anyone mentioned that of the 2 hour credits last 20 minutes is copy/pasted legal notices?
That is legally required when using open source software because of the license it was published under.
If you use it, you have to credit the creator.

So most of what they have there is exactly that. Nothingburger. If the culture war retards pick this up and rant about it I will laugh my ass off.

Oh god no, how'd they wind up with that IP? There's not enough cocaine in the world to make Ubisoft's devs shit out a crazy-ass story/game worthy of the series' name.
They've had it since 2006. So 5, 6, 7, Might & Magic X Legacy, Heroes Online the failed MMO, Kingdoms the RTS... you haven't noticed this?
