No I never heard of that, I feel with Marco it's mostly a fujo thing since all I ever see people talk about with him is how he is Jean's lover or best friend. There's also his intelligence and innocence that Isayama likes to bring up about how he was "too good for this super evil world" like what typical edgelord writers like to do.

Ymir though definitely leans more into potential especially with how there was a lot they could've done with her but she was killed off for plot (Honestly how they handled Ymir was a pretty weak way to handle things pre-timeskip).
This. Marco was easily one of the most, if not the most overrated character considering how little he actually did. He was really only popular for fujo reasons.

Isayama completely squandered Ymir aka best girl and I'm still kind of mad about it. He couldn't even give her an onscreen death.

I like to call her "The cooler Ymir."

Yes she was a stacy

Meanwhile, her girlfriend Historia…became a queen.
And then became a side character for the rest of the manga who got FARMED.

Literally no one cares about her except for Erenfags who want their blond aryan waifu and project their desires to be a father on Eren

The theory basically came from the fact that people noticed that there was a background character named Samuel that due to Isayama's shitty art, looked unintentionally very similar to Marco, and that Marco himself tended to be seen standing in group shots with the other titan-shifters, and end up in panels with them when the word "traitor" was brought up.

This coupled with the fact that in the manga, Isayama's shitty art made Marco's corpse look just off enough for people to start thinking it wasn't actually him, but instead actually Samuel. This was helped by the fact that after he was saved during Chapter 3, Samuel just straight-up vanished from the rest of the story all the way until Chapter 128.

Another thing that helped this theory, albeit for a very short time was when the SC was trying to get Annie in the woods, the suspiciously male looking character that we all know actually ending up being Annie was thought to be actually Marco who was believed to have faked his death, and working with the titan-shifters and was actually one himself.

As time went on the theory did lose popularity, however, and was eventually completely debunked by the events of the actual story.

I disagree. I'm not gonna deny that fujos didn't play a big part in his popularity, but the "Marco is actually a titan-shifter" theory was a widespread belief in the fandom, albeit only in the very beginning of the series.

So, since the series is at end, how much damage did the ending of the series do as a whole? Curious since I was avoiding it until the product was fully finished.

My guess is 90%

EDIT: Looks like a portion of my curiosity was answered.
For fucks sake, when you consume retarded shit made by retarded japp you deserve to be fucked over, but you fucks never learn.
99% of anime and manga writers are immature morons who have no ability to write a coherent story and that's what what Miyazaki was talking about.

You know how GoT Season 8 just kind of nuked the entire franchise from pop culture?

Yeah, we're looking about that much here.

Well, that sums it up.

You'd think that after 20 years of anime we'd learn from former failures to not repeat the same mistakes but after the failure of shows like Franxx and now this, yeah the anime industry must be in desperate life support.

Still, nice to see that the Japanese entertainment industry is not so different afterall with the West.

It makes me wonder if even the Japanese are catching on to the "intentionally destroying the IPs by making completely awful stories", like how it's been happening in the West. Are they all trying to get tax credits for the massive financial losses when these acts of Subverting Expectations cause so many people to drop the series that it causes a hit financially?

You tell me, the Japs are too focused on Gacha and Idolshit that stories like Berserk, if released today, would never be a hit. Worst part is that this won't affect just them, but everyone included. Mangaka and anime directors that have a creative vision don't get what they want, the audience filled with autistic speds with no brain other than shiny waifu will only benefit but only for a short amount of time and the overseas fans that can support the IP will get lambasted because some author decided to torch all their efforts in a shitty monologue.

What bothers me is that people think that "this is okay" so that they can move on and consoom next product like a conveyor belt and thus perpetuating this shitty cycle that the anime industry locked itself into. Now that AoT is already chopped off like a rotten pig's carcass, no franchise, no matter how big in Japan, is safe from one author's lack of coherent storytelling.

I don’t think Isayama did it on purpose to destroy his story. I genuinely think he’s a retarded hack who just wanted to write his crush fetish fantasy and also rip off a lot of western media (mainly capeshit). He’s just a massive autist.

Like the series became shit in the timeskip and fans were too busy jacking off Eren’s edgelord persona to consider the quality of the story

I disagree. I used to think the exact same thing, but now I believe that most of, if not all of the final arc is just one big shitpost.

Let's be fair, most Japs are hacks anyways.

1. You forgot another thing Japan has: adaptations of isekai light novels with a healthy dose of harem.

2. If they're trying to emulate the West, there'd be a lot more aspects of "Woke" and "pandering to the China market. And you got people who still think Japan is somewhat "based" and say that the manga industry shits all over Western comics and bring up sales charts to prove it.

So, the new chapter of AoT no Requiem is coming out soon, and judging from the preview images, it literally does just look like an EreHisu fanfic where Eren comes out on top.

1630837006381.png

Also, I've noticed that people get very defensive when others try to this out, and ask questions about the story instead of just blindly praising it. They especially get pissed when people point out the problems with Eren winning and how his only repercussion for genociding the entire world seems to be him just having to live with the guilt.

@thinking about mr hands, I know you're no long part of the Requiem team, but can shed some light on this, please? To massively oversimplify, was the overall plan of the story just to have Eren win, hook up with Historia and then bad for the rest of his life, or were there other consequences that were/are planned to happen? Like, was there going to be more info on the rest of the world, the PATHs, titan lore, etc.?

If you don't wanna tell us because you don't wanna risk the spoilers leaking out onto the rest of web that's fine, but at least some clarification would be really appreciated.

@Bunny Tracks To be honest do you even need to really ask that since the people that supported the requiem project were perfectly fine with the way the series was until chapter 137. They were all butthurt faggots who wanted their husbando to win so they can have a fairytale ending with his offscreen waifu and have a daughter because they all wish to be fathers.

They were perfectly fine with the trash timeskip and after the ending, all they could bitch about is how they were close to true kino or peak fiction until Isayama ruined the series by making Eren a "simp".

If they cared at all about logic, the world, or even the lore they would've just changed the plot of everything from the Marley arc to the end.

Well, I can give out the full plot for the previous 139 rewrite we were going to do, I believe requiem is following a similar line of thinking? But I don’t have any of the dialogue plans we had, only scene set ups because the person who made us rewrite so much of the story, demanded head writer and admin permits and basically deleted most of the chats to renovate things, but I remember pretty much how the 139 rewrite went.
But the big part of the Requiem was just keeping to the established themes, clarification of Eren’s visions/intentions, giving more background to Ymir, and making sure Eren wasn’t a hero and has to live his life in constant guilt for what he’s done.

It was going to open with the “see you later Eren” that would turn from grownup Mikasa into kid Mikasa saying that to Eren, laying beneath that tree. This roughly follows the ANR music video and the first chapter as grown up Eren shows his child self what is to come, referencing Eren’s long dream and crying.
Big Eren was going to show kid Eren the scenes that had hints of being a part of a future topic, such as Historia’s and his conversation, but also convincing Grisha to give him the attack Titan, also while trying to make the mom thing make sense, because we couldn’t ignore the Bertholt shard that pre existed.
We were also going to go into Ymir’s backstory a bit and use the 137 preview of Ymir setting the pigs free with a smile, I remember, but I forgot exactly why.
Mikasa was going to be accidentally killed by Eren’s colossal Titan collapsing after she beheaded him. We wanted Eren to be able to see this, but be unable to do anything about it.
The plan was also to let Armin live after the world had been rumbled and he and Eren would have a last confrontation which focused mainly on their opposing ideals, Armin would decide to leave and explore the world like he dreamed in search for survivors, although Eren would not be able to join him in the dream they once shared.
Also one of the main things we tried to accomplish was to bring back the War Hammer Titan ability that was never used and have Eren be in another location, the problem was choosing which one because originally it was going to be where his body was back on Paradise, but we also needed that final confrontation with Armin, so that was one of the stumpers.
And keeping with the rumors of the final panel, the last pages were going to be Eren walking through all the death, destruction and recalling his friends with a haunted look. Historia was supposed to be sitting outside on her rocking chair holding Ymir and she hands the baby to Eren who starts crying and looks at the sunrise with the “you are free.” line, the Titan curse now lifted as Ymir is no longer trapped in paths and can live an actual life.
This is all nowhere near the detail went into the planning, but this is the rough version I can remember since all those plans are lost to time.

Before I left the server, I remember the main boss being adamant that this wasn’t a Erehisu story, and romance was not going to be the central part of it. The focus is supposed to be Eren’s perspective and reasoning- he wants to protect his people and friends- the contrast between him, Zeke and Armin, Eren, Mikasa and Armin all splitting ways, as well as just the burden of his knowledge and how that affected him.
I’m no longer in the server, I don’t know if plans have changed, but that was supposed to be the overarching theme.
The main goal was supposed to be to just make the ending a little less meh, not a strange attempt to redeem Eren, and fix the weird character inconsistencies, and just the overall tone of that last chapter.
Again, I don’t know if that has changed, the only things I know now is what’s posted on Twitter since I’m not in their server.

However, I am pretty sure the reason the Eren and Historia image is the one they released is because it was the one in highest demand by some of their supporters. Also it causes the most controversy because that part of the Attack on Titan Twitter/fans would start getting upset about it. So looking at it from an advertisement point, it’s bound to cause the most attention which is probably why it was the one revealed.

this new not being able to reply glitch will be the death of me.

Anyone know if there are any rewrites out there that just stick to the “killing titans” aspect that the series started and got popular on? That or has the fallout of the basement reveal play out differently?

@Random Internet Person

If someone is going back that far they might as well just make their own monster survival series at that point. That's what the director for the anime did. "Fuck you I'm making my own Attack on Titan but with trains and shit". Though @Secret Asshole did a nice writeup on how he would have handled AOT playing out differently.

Though if you just want more in the genre that there's other stuff to read. Gantz is a big one and probably the gold standard, Berserk isn't exclusively about fighting big overwhelming monsters but you'll like it I'm sure, Claymore is also very good and probably more what you want specifically, Knights of Sidonia is a lot like early AOT but with actual mecha (it's the only one of those that's gonna have a completed anime adaption too, but the manga looks way better until the last third or so anyways).

If you're willing to play through a long trilogy of VNs there's Muv-Luv which inspired the initial setting of AOT to begin with. If you want more of the titan shifter fights check out Project ARMS, it was another big inspiration for Isayama in a general manga-making sense. If you want shit about fighting monsters in general there's a ton of that but I really like Blame and Parasyte, the former's author being yet another big inspiration for Isayama.
