@thinking about mr hands, I know you're no long part of the Requiem team, but can shed some light on this, please? To massively oversimplify, was the overall plan of the story just to have Eren win, hook up with Historia and then bad for the rest of his life, or were there other consequences that were/are planned to happen? Like, was there going to be more info on the rest of the world, the PATHs, titan lore, etc.?
If you don't wanna tell us because you don't wanna risk the spoilers leaking out onto the rest of web that's fine, but at least some clarification would be really appreciated
Well, I can give out the full plot for the previous 139 rewrite we were going to do, I believe requiem is following a similar line of thinking? But I don’t have any of the dialogue plans we had, only scene set ups because the person who made us rewrite so much of the story, demanded head writer and admin permits and basically deleted most of the chats to renovate things, but I remember pretty much how the 139 rewrite went.
But the big part of the Requiem was just keeping to the established themes, clarification of Eren’s visions/intentions, giving more background to Ymir, and making sure Eren wasn’t a hero and has to live his life in constant guilt for what he’s done.
It was going to open with the “see you later Eren” that would turn from grownup Mikasa into kid Mikasa saying that to Eren, laying beneath that tree. This roughly follows the ANR music video and the first chapter as grown up Eren shows his child self what is to come, referencing Eren’s long dream and crying.
Big Eren was going to show kid Eren the scenes that had hints of being a part of a future topic, such as Historia’s and his conversation, but also convincing Grisha to give him the attack Titan, also while trying to make the mom thing make sense, because we couldn’t ignore the Bertholt shard that pre existed.
We were also going to go into Ymir’s backstory a bit and use the 137 preview of Ymir setting the pigs free with a smile, I remember, but I forgot exactly why.
Mikasa was going to be accidentally killed by Eren’s colossal Titan collapsing after she beheaded him. We wanted Eren to be able to see this, but be unable to do anything about it.
The plan was also to let Armin live after the world had been rumbled and he and Eren would have a last confrontation which focused mainly on their opposing ideals, Armin would decide to leave and explore the world like he dreamed in search for survivors, although Eren would not be able to join him in the dream they once shared.
Also one of the main things we tried to accomplish was to bring back the War Hammer Titan ability that was never used and have Eren be in another location, the problem was choosing which one because originally it was going to be where his body was back on Paradise, but we also needed that final confrontation with Armin, so that was one of the stumpers.
And keeping with the rumors of the final panel, the last pages were going to be Eren walking through all the death, destruction and recalling his friends with a haunted look. Historia was supposed to be sitting outside on her rocking chair holding Ymir and she hands the baby to Eren who starts crying and looks at the sunrise with the “you are free.” line, the Titan curse now lifted as Ymir is no longer trapped in paths and can live an actual life.
This is all nowhere near the detail went into the planning, but this is the rough version I can remember since all those plans are lost to time.
Before I left the server, I remember the main boss being adamant that this wasn’t a Erehisu story, and romance was not going to be the central part of it. The focus is supposed to be Eren’s perspective and reasoning- he wants to protect his people and friends- the contrast between him, Zeke and Armin, Eren, Mikasa and Armin all splitting ways, as well as just the burden of his knowledge and how that affected him.
I’m no longer in the server, I don’t know if plans have changed, but that was supposed to be the overarching theme.
The main goal was supposed to be to just make the ending a little less meh, not a strange attempt to redeem Eren, and fix the weird character inconsistencies, and just the overall tone of that last chapter.
Again, I don’t know if that has changed, the only things I know now is what’s posted on Twitter since I’m not in their server.
However, I am pretty sure the reason the Eren and Historia image is the one they released is because it was the one in highest demand by some of their supporters. Also it causes the most controversy because that part of the Attack on Titan Twitter/fans would start getting upset about it. So looking at it from an advertisement point, it’s bound to cause the most attention which is probably why it was the one revealed.
this new not being able to reply glitch will be the death of me.
