Avowed - Obsidian's new game, like Pillars of Eternity meets Elder Scrolls

It's not just the short hair, they also made a point of portraying the male characters in leadership position being always bad at their job and the female leaders being always good.
That's actually a improvement from Deadfire where there was zero men in leadership position.
Lmao no it wasn’t. KOTOR 2 is awful compared to the first game. Obshitian could never compete with peak Bioware.
KOTOR 2 is not good.
I have a hard time believing that someone would dislike KOTOR 2 but like the first one they play pretty similar from what I remember. You just dislike the writing in the second game right?

Nah Bethesda isn’t nearly as bad as Obsidian with the DEI shit, not after hearing what that insider said.
I guess you’re right insofar as Bethesda DEI shit feels more like a blatantly soulless cash grab for Blackrock money, whereas Obsoydian DEI shit feels like it was made by true believers, but I subscribe to a philosophy that any DEI shit is bad and companies that promote it should not get your hard earned money unless it is absolutely necessary. People have been doing well by not buying most DEI slop as of late, but it’s actually more important that Bethesda have that lesson hammered home since they have IPs like Fallout and TES that will probably sell like crack anyways. Obsoydian just has boring IPs no one cares about like this game.

Can't find the original post, but the problem with modern day graphics is that the usual nerds were replaced by idiots who only care about having their multi thousands dollar machines run ultra high at 120 fps.

Nobody gives a shit about texture quality unless it's some grandiose 4K shit. Nobody gives a pitch on environment interaction, it's all about showing how big your numbers are on the latest slop.

It really does seem that the best writing in game franchises comes out of scenarios where the devs are heavily resource-restricted.

I posit that it is because if they are given any breathing room, they start to second-guess what they already did and think it's okay for them to add more personal touches to things.
it does. really wish I could find the molyneux interview again where he pretty much says as much, think it was after magic carpet and EA just showered them in money with no goal or deadlines and shit just never got anywhere because of it. or look at levine with bioshock infinite.

In regards to the whole "so when the token gay has a happy end with another dude most people were emphatic enough to understand it.", I despise it when the "protected classes" can never be wrong, have anything bad happen, or have negative traits.
the happy end would come at the end of some arc, not as some kind of unearned reward. like, even in a 90's sitcom where you just had the "unlucky in love gay" finally finding "the right one" came across at not pandering, if not outright endearing because people could empathize with that and not think about HAHA FUCKING MAN ASS.

Pretty sure Zeschuk said the same thing about EA, that they gave Bioware more than enough rope to hang themselves. Creativity requires constraints otherwise you get slop.

Tainted Grail Fall of Avalon
I'm actually gonna go to bat for this game. I picked it up on sale almost a year ago and while I haven't put that much time into it (less than 8 hours), I think it's the best Dark Messiah type game out there. It's definitely not Dark Messiah 2.0 with all the same features but it is the closest thing to come out be in early access these last few years that's similar enough in my opinion at least. It is on sale right now, though I'd bet money that it'll be on a better sale either during the Christmas sale or the lunar new year slant sale. Just remember that it's in early access and is rough around the edges.

So that image that John F Trent shared, got community noted. But the game is still crap.

Not to worry, there will likely be a mod to get rid of pronouns.

Lunacid had a couple. One removed the field entirely, one removed most but added Nig/Ger.

Its a damn shame that only way to truely get the best out of the creatives is to thread that fine line between giving them enough money to succeeded vs everyone is now fired, go home. A permanent case of being the scrappy underground that pushes and flexes every cent they have to make the vision work.

They still do unless you have high enough Science skill, hence the name of the weapon group
the other good part is IIRC the science weapon's damage is based on the skills so investing in that lets you use all different types of weapons instead of having to invest in melee, long guns, etc.
but you shouldn't be unprofessional as an art director on Twitter especially if you were in charge of hiring
the problem is there's no consequences for it and most people are too fucking afraid to let there be any. Like John Carmack was fucking pissed that some lefty lost their job for mocking the trump assassination meanwhile he sat on his autistic hands and let every right wing person in silicon valley get fired or any person preaching a possibly non-lefty opinion like James Damore. There's no consequences for tanking a company with your shitty views, in fact there are more consequences if you stay silent as GG has shown us.

In general if you're part of the few groups the left likes you can literally get away with murder and rape and kid stuff and be perfectly fine whereas anyone not in their group is a target,

thats a cope, if you just give yourself a budget or limitation then as a creative you can still get the best out of yourself. David Simon has been king of hbo because he sets a budget and timeline for himself even stricter than the ones the company gives him and it causes him to have made a lot of interesting stuff. You can't really say a tv show about New Orleans' music scene isn't very creative.

If Levine or anyone at Bioware or here just set guidelines for themselves they wouldn't have gotten themselves into the messes they did.

Spell&Shield, the Pillars of Eternity fanboy has finally woke from his dream.
larian eated that whole lunch with divinity 1 and 2
i actually skipped divinity 1 and 2.
You're probably confusing the Diablo-like Divinity 1 aand 2 with the excellent BG3 like Divinity : Original Sins 1 + 2.

This was my biggest issue too.
accidentally created a system that far more closely resembles late-stage communism
Good point, but they didn't portray the designated communists on Monarch to be good either.

This is true, but a lot of video game writers, artists, or designers have inflated egos.

They wanted to do movies, or in the case of Japan they wanted to do anime. Thus, limitations would need to be imposed externally else they would do stupid stuff.

I also have a sense that this is often a bigger problem if the designer has less experience in a practical thing like programming and is purely on the creative side, but I could be wrong on that.
