Avowed - Obsidian's new game, like Pillars of Eternity meets Elder Scrolls

Why are they shilling and releasing this game on Battle.net? It's not even anything to do with blizz or activision

It's daring that they plan to release it around the same time as Asscreed's gay nigger sim.
It's daring they're going to try and release it so close to Monster Hunter Wilds.

I wonder if this is going to flop. The original promise of being Obsidian's Skyrim was shattered, it has that same Veilguard-esque corporate DEI not-quite Fortnite but still extra gay art style, all of the gameplay looks extremely unsatisfying and unappealing.
I think it's going to struggle, if nothing else I think that Outer Worlds was very poorly received and have people thinking about Obsidian differently. Outer Worlds was relegated to Game Pass bait on release...

I wonder if Avowed is going to be relegated to trying to get users into the Gamepass and/or Battle.net ecosystems, same as Outer Worlds before it.

Bit worried about what Fexra said about performance.
Outer Worlds currently has great performance, but that's all due to the publisher taking responsibility for fixing it when Obsidian handed it off to them in a broken state.

The only thing that interests me about this game is that judging by the footage, it is using similar engine to Outer Worlds. If it's a medieval equivalent of that game and it won't make me puke with DEI shit like Veilguard does, that's good enough for me. I haven't been following this game, I have not been hyped for this game, I have no expectations. I am ready to be pleasantly surprised, or I can drop it without a care.

Well, you are really one of the best Outer Worlds cocksuckers i've seen. That's why your expectations are not that lower.

I don't have any expectations out of this game. I would just like to see another RPG in the same engine and with similar gameplay.
The only real effect this game will have on me is if it tanks, that means my expectations for Outer Worlds 2(assuming that wasn't canned) will plummet as well.

The Outer Worlds dramatically lowered my expectations for any subsequent game Obsidian releases and, furthermore, instilled a distrust through my having learned the hard way that the company is willing to blatantly front-load a turd with the only scraps players are likely to enjoy, before leaving them discover for themselves that everything up to the ending is the gaming equivalent of textured vegetable protein filler.

I would need to see reviews insisting (and gameplay supporting) that Avowed is quality all the way through before I would consider giving Obsidian another dime. If any of you are willing to gamble on playing it, do please share how it goes.

I will bat for the game, the state it's in is due to massive developmental hell. Ironic, considering this was supposed to be a small scale RPG to avoid the exact same issues the devs had during New Vegas development, a shitshow that could span a topic of it's own. Tim Cain has said that there was "one cut too many", and I believe him. From cutting several planets to cutting out the entire open world aspect(you could originally travel from Emerald Vale to Roseway to Byzantium on one giant open world map the same way you can travel to any city on Monarch on foot, you could supposedly do what you could in New Vegas and skip to Byzantium much earlier if you were savvy enough), to changing where the game would start(originally it was Roseway, with it's "'vertical slice" quest still available), there is a ton of changes and cuts before the game became what it is. Very confused tone and writing that never takes itself seriously only compound the problem.

Still, there is enough there that a competent sequel is possible. If Avowed bombs, I may have to reconsider that possibility, however.

You still can.
Just sell out Welles Rick Sanchez to the Corpos on Groundbreaker and you'll be cleared for Byzantium and Sofia's questline.

Yup, but originally you could do that before you even left Emerald Vale, since the game was truly open world at one point. The gates would be closed and there would no doubt be high level enemies around, mirroring the Cazador/Deathclaw infested roads and the gate toll of New Vegas. Would have made repeat playthrus much better, one universal complain I hear about Outer Worlds is that the first couple of hours are boring, since they're spend on the tutorial planet. If players were given a choice to do Rosemont or go to Byzantium instead and get an alternative way to get the spaceship working, I think there would have been a lot less groaning.

A longterm fan played the demo, and said its not woke.

Doubt.

Tbh, I'm less concerned about its woke status so much as its "looks like shit, plays like shit, world is shit, stories are shit, mechanics are shit, and everyone's a gremlin" status. IMO, woke is a harbinger of all those things but games can still be bad without being woke.

This was a funny comment tho

You must be talking about the pre-remaster cause Ive only heard of that one sucking cock.

Which version? The original or the Spacer's Choice?
I've heard that the studio that handled the Spacer's Choice fucked up the port.

That is correct, Spacer's Choice is a disgrace.

The short of it is that there is exactly two brand new things SC added in: Unlimited level cap(already available by a mod, not like it matters since there isn't enough to do in this game to level you up past the level cap, even with DLCs raising it) and the Moon Man helmet now has it's mouth move with lipsyncing(The game takes place entirely in first person and there is only one NPC that wears the helmet, so it is almost entirely only done for the trailer). That's it, that's all you get that the original release didn't have.
As for how they made it worse, oh boy: Lighting is fucked up to the point where some location's original atmosphere is gone and sometimes it breaks entirely, the game is even uglier somehow, the performance is worse and it's tied to the game engine so no matter how good your PC is it won't matter. There is a ton of technical issues there, not to mention that the few mods that were made for the original release don't work for the new one, creating a new slate that has no playerbase to fill it. Spacer's Choice is right, since it's a cheap cash in that oversells what it offers in hopes you don't buy an alternative that's better in every way, just like in-universe Spacer's Choice items. I never paid a penny for the game or it's expansions and I will tell you right now, the original release is well worth the price. Just make sure to avoid Spacer's Choice Edition, not like you can buy the original anymore anyways so don't feel bad for pirating it.

Also don't forget Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 - The Deliverancing comes out February 11th.

Asscreed is sweating with MHW and KCD 2 competing with them in February, I don't think Avowed stands a chance...
At least it's not sharing the same name with another game that came out the same year like Outer Worlds did with Outer Wilds. Boy, that was embarrassing when I kept confusing the two on /v/.
I look forward to the salt of KCD2 slaughtering everyone involved aside from maybe MHW. Lefties are still angry that KCD1 succeeded despite not adding any niggers to it.
