That was eight minutes of nothing. As @Asian tech support pointed out: Everything they're so proud of has been a staple in this industry for decades and done better in games at a quarter of the budget.
The setting is extremely lame looking. I like that the only enemies they showcased were kobolds too, couldn't even throw in a few bandits or something cool to stab, just endless lizards.
I am also completely sick and tired of the fucking weird almost cartoony not quite Fortnite look that everything has now. I never thought I'd miss gritty realism, fuck me.
It's kind of sad how little anybody seems to care about this game. Outside of the video you posted and this thread I've seen zero talk about it. Almost impressive actually.
The whole game smells mid. There isn't anything to be excited about because it doesn't even do it's job of being a Skyrim-like. Hub zones instead of an open world? You can only visit areas in a certain order? Morally gray quests like 'do you believe this cowardly nigger or not?'. It is lame as fuck.

I liked Amalur for what it was. I don't think that general aesthetic translates well to higher detail, hence seemingly everyone's problem with the Avowed visuals.
It probably could, but they don't hire through talent anymore. That's why everything looks so bad and second hand, not an ounce of talent anywhere on that team to make it distinct.
Does the recent footage of Avowed look a LOT more colorful then what they've shown before? The announcement trailer they showed in 2020 looked more gritty and dark. Avowed's recent footage almost looked like the Visions of Mana trailer that appeared in the same presentation.
I think the reason why it looked so bad was because they artificially increased the brightness and saturation of the game's textures to make the game look more colorful. If you actually play close attention, then you will see that the dark areas of the game look pretty good. This might also explain why the HUD as well as the enemies look so generic.
Even the logo looks completely different. I wish modern videogame developers were more forthcoming so we could find out what happened. But it seems like whatever happened to this game will remain a secret until a leak comes out.
Watching them try to sell the same combat Bethesda has been using for decades as new and exciting is hilarious.
Between Obsidian's poor output for the last decade now, plus the game's troubled development, I don't foresee this game being great. I am a big fan of RPGs, so I'm hoping I'm wrong.
no those are not elves, they're aumua. like orks mixed with islanders.
the second game especially is filled with like weird native cultures because you sail around and shit
The whole thing actually reminded me of the Fable 2 trailer. You take a cartoony fantasy world and then give the graphics the retarded realism treatment. In the case of Avowed, I think the world was originally meant to be less colorful.
The lizard enemies were straight up dogshit. There was no gore and barely any blood. When they died their models just awkwardly hit the floor and their attacks were pathetic

I never thought I'd miss the 2000's and its dirty camera lenses and blood everywhere... To think modern gaming makes Dragon Age Origins painting you in blood just from killing a few rats look fun and exciting instead of edgy and tryhard.

For anyone that didn't play Poe1/2:
Orcs are hawaiians instead of british
Gods can soulfuck people to make godtouched
Humans are retarded
Orlan are halflings
Also oh look avowed is shit, who knew. Should've stayed and revolutionized realtime-with-pause like you faggots originally promised. Obsidian. Now go choke on your own refuse.

Obsidian has a AAA mindset without the AAA backing: They want their brands to sell like hotcakes but they're fucking poor and no ones going to give a shit about scronkle because no one fucking knows that it's actually premlas of marianna 3 but skyrim.
These idiots cannot comprehend building an IP first to turn it into a beloved brand anymore.

Something big changed throughout this game's development. Frankly, I don't think this game will come out in a finished state because of whatever garbage decision they made mid development.

I'm going to autistically repeat myself but i would put good money on this being a VR game originally; either planned for release on PSVR2 or XBox's cancelled headset, before the transition into the flatscreened rainbow-vomit it is now.
The slow, clunky animations and 'dead' environments during fights scream VR.
I can't believe they are making a modern AAA RPG with a fucking E rating. How can you possibly tell a compelling story or have visceral combat with a rating like that? Fucking tragic. Starfield was bizarrely toothless too. Is this a Microsoft thing now? No more M rated games?
