Avowed - Obsidian's new game, like Pillars of Eternity meets Elder Scrolls

This is how I've been thinking about it and if anyone cares to look at the first couple of pages of the thread, they'll find that people weren't exactly blown away by gameplay. All of my criticism so far has been aimed directly at gameplay, systems, and design. This is my problem with the horde of grift tubers that have sprung up in the last year or two - rarely do they discuss botched systems but instead choose to focus gay drama. Gay drama is fun but it's not helpful when it comes to discussing the game itself. It would be a nice change of pace for a AAA trainwreck happening due to the game itself being a piece of shit rather than culture war nonsense.
That’s because people like you pretend “culture war nonsense” is mutually exclusive from bad game design and it’s not.

Look at how the Ubisoft exec just admitted that AC Shadows is a good deal of the teams first game. The same thing happened with ME Andromeda.

They’re more worried about making sure the teams are perfectly representing the only groups of people they think are human, than staffing their teams with competent devs. That attitude comes from their politically religious ideology.

Thats also why story and design suffer. It’s no different than if the team were dogmatic Christians and everything was scripture and sermons. They’re not allowed to depict/write/design many things because it violates their social faith’s tenets.
The only difference is, if Jack Thompson had won, and it was his people doing this, people like you wouldn’t do this limp-wristed pretending it’s not as bad as it is, or it wasn’t happening.

I feel like casuals will be more interested in Monster Hunter Wilds, which is releasing at the end of February, and people more into CRPGs will be more interested in KCD2, which is releasing near the start of February, leaving Avowed without much of an audience. Still, I doubt Avowed will be a complete flop, especially given that it'll be on Game Pass.

I think I've played one Monster Hunter game way back on the original xbox, maybe the 360? Long enough ago that I don't remember. I think I borrowed it from a friend (because you could do that back in the day) and didn't play much of it.

What's a good one to start with? Maybe I've been missing out on good shit.

I never really got into the series myself. I'm too much of a storyfag and MH games are largely focused on character building and combat. You'd undoubtedly get a better answer over in the MH Wilds thread.

I'm told World is pretty much the most forgiving MonHun in the series. So much so the veterans call World-only players casual tourists lol

Avowed has looked disappointingly generic since its announcement, but all the rage junkies filing into this thread to announce that Obsidian Has Never Made Good Games, Actually just because some fag posted some dumb shit on twitter is exhausting
I know, almost like Bethesda fanboys who are still jealous that even modern Obsidian shits all over their games are the lowest forms of sentient life there is, huh?

Doubt it was the 360 considering the only one was a Japanese exclusive mmo style game. Which meant it was locked to the region, even with a Japanese 360 probably would’ve been a challenge or impossible lol. The 360 era, the west only had the ps2, psp and Wii games.

Honestly Monster Hunter 3 for Wii U was a very good starter game but if you want something more user friendly, Rise might be a good one. It’s a lot more action oriented and faster moving than the other games.

Probably PS2 then, I'm sure I got distracted by something at some point.

In any case Avowed was kind of my last hope to see a good first person RPG anytime soon. I wasn't even looking for it to be that good, just good enough to wonder around, stab monsters and maybe see what they did to update pillars lore. So since I'm shit out of luck on that I need to broaden my horizons.

A positive outlook you could have about it is that at least it’s a Gamepass game. So you don’t really have to feel to bad if it ends up being trash. Especially if you’re a pc player where it’s only $10.

Hmm if your not to against anime bullshit, The God Eater games were pretty enjoyable monster hunting games. Than in January we’re getting the remaster of one of the best Vita games, Freedom Wars which is another pretty great monster killing game. Again though it depends on your tolerance for anime style bullshit lol.

It is coming out a few days after Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. They really are going to have a bad time after this.
Unless KCD2 went full retard and bend the knee to add trannies and niggers to medieval European setting, it will be 100% white and historically accurate, ie exactly the kind of game aimed at white men. Obsidian made it political, and now the pro-white game will outsell the anti-white game. They are going to have a REALLY bad time now, they're the ones who made an ethical contest out of this.
Still, I doubt Avowed will be a complete flop, especially given that it'll be on Game Pass.
If game rentals made a title successful, then everybody would be singing praises for Starfield. This shit is DOA and I will only pirate it if someone removes the pronouns(and other shit they no doubt inserted).

Dragon Age at least got some buzz. This? I am hearing crickets from my lefty, RPG-playing circles. Can't say it bodes well for the game.
Dragon Age at least had a suspiciously large group of fangirls who play the games as homosexual dating sims to fall back on. So long as a Bioware game has a boy or two to kiss there'll be a few thousand Bioware fangirls to play and talk about it.

Avowed and Obsidian don't have that. In fact, POE1 had no romance and POE2 had legendarily bad romance from what I recall, people used to share around the screenshots of the fishman party members basically trying to rape you via dialogue. I have no doubt that there will be some shitty romances in this but the only party members they've shown at all is a really ugly fish dude. I don't think your average foid gamer watched In the Shape of Water so I doubt he will be a huge hit.
They're smack in between Kingdom Deliverance 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds. That game is even more toast.
I genuinely think Avowed would have been fine if they hadn't given up on making a fully open world like Skyrim. Obsidian are fucking retarded. A massive void and a hungry fanbase desperate for more Elder Scrolls would have probably snapped that up like a starving dog with a fresh piece of meat.

But because they're retarded, and extremely lazy, they have to make it an Outer Worlds clone with fixed progression through levels. That was the end of this game. The homosexual art style shift and terrible writing is just the cherry on top of the shit sundae.

I'm sorry, they scrapped the open world TWICE now, like in Outer Worlds? Holy shit, what an incompetent crew. Considering both Monster Hunter and KCD2 will have big open worlds, this will make Avowed even worse. I can already hear people saying they "DisAvowed" this game in their reviews.

Yeah man they said multiple times in interviews that they dialed back the scope to Outer Worlds levels because it was too hard for them to make a fully seamless open world.

So they're not even trying to sugar coat it that they're retarded woke deadbeats? lmfao
Seeing how little of Tim's vision made it into Outer Worlds, or rather how it was handled, makes so much more sense now. Since the dev team doesn't know what it's doing, what are the odds this will be anything more than OW reskin? I haven't really seen anything that crazy from the preview footage that makes me think it will be a massive step forward.

I'm going to add the corpse of my hopes to the pile of other fans's on this thread and say the same thing: as imperfect as they were I liked both opuses, what a shame they decided to make a piss poor distorted copy of Skyrim rather than a nice trilogy.
It feels like Torchligt all over again (:_(
