Avowed - Obsidian's new game, like Pillars of Eternity meets Elder Scrolls

Practically everything in that game is shit because of men and capitalism. As soon as women get into power, everything's hunky dory. The male leader in the first town basically bends over backwards to let the old hippie girlboss fuck his ass if you bring her over there.
Not true, there is a male leader on Monarch that is clearly the most competent one to rule over the planet(capitalist, too), and the best ending has him calming down the emotional girlboss rebel leader(that is assuming you overthrew the zealous retard that ruled the gang beforehand) so they can unite their forces against The Board.
I wish people who criticize the game would actually play it, and not go off of factually incorrect /v/ shitposts
Also, the "male leader" of the first town is a corporate stooge retard while the "old hippie girlboss" is a psychotic cannibal who makes it clear she will intentionally let people from the town die out of spite if you side with her. Neither side is correct, and later down the line if you side with The Board you are told to exterminate the colony anyways no matter which side you picked since they're doomed no matter what you do. The very first main quest of the game went over your head, lmao.
Not an RPG, also full of niggers. I do like the premise, however.

And for how much I'm told I should appreciate Obsidian for story
You shouldn’t, ever.
Outer Worlds shouldn’t exist, this being below it is an abomination of unbelievable reach.
It’s below it in some regards and massively above it in others.
To be fair, it did get more people to play Outer Wilds by mistake.
Amazing game.
Has gaming in modern day gone this downhill that the mediocre game from 2019 is somehow more decent than a video game that does not know why it exists in the first place?
It’s really not. I stopped playing Avowed but I wasn’t as bored as I was with Outer Worlds.

I did play it, just couldn't be fucked after Roseway. The game is a fucking poster child of boring, soulless corporate trash - ironic given the themes of the first town. If I remember correctly, the first character (or at least one of the first) you run into is a black woman security officer/security chief when you find "your" ship, whilst meek, pathetic men are plentiful in the Emerald Vale. The Groundbreaker has like what, three women in charge of different sections? Half the scientists at Roseway are pathetic caricatures of how nerds act around jocks. The Groundbreaker's Chief Engineer is a woman, the spymaster (or whatever the fuck she is, a fence, a mobster boss?) was a woman, and some chick in charge of a big shipping company who sent me off on a quest to some distant planet if I had the access codes. After Roseway I figured it'd be the same boring shit going forward and stopped playing. Good to hear there's at least one or two redeeming things about the game, still not enough to get me to try again.

I think this is the most damning comparison yet. I never played outer worlds, I had no idea how much of a step down avowed was.
How the hell did we go BACKWARDS from Outer Worlds? I would categorize that game as a bare minimal that a modern action RPG should be, they should have build upon that foundation instead of regressing.
The animations in Avowed for townspeople look genuinely awful, it's like they're animatronics. Look at the first one shown, with the guard eating an apple, I mean we can't get something as basic as this done right?
I would love to see the cut content for this game, I bet they considered the same crime system as seen in OW but they just didn't have the chops to make a similar sandbox anymore. That does make me wonder if even Tim can tard wrangle whoever is working on OW2 to keep those same systems in.

After a good 3 hours, this game is just the definition of meh.
It doesn't so far go as bad as Troonguard, nor as empty and boring as Starfield, nor the atrocity of Kangdom Cum Deliverass, and I had few but existing crashes.

This is a 20 dollars at best game, if it weren't for the hyper woke team that makes it a pirate if you have to play it.

Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim are just way better. If you hadn't played them for 600 hours as a kid, give them another go.

I'm watching the Oblivion comparison video
Check this shit out, not only do arrows stick to stone and brick like they would with wood, but they aren't even properly sticking inside at all: THEY'RE FLOATING NEXT TO THE SURFACE
avowed arrows.png
It looks like the game can only keep track of 1-2 arrows at a time, so this is what happens when you shoot into the stone wall again:
avowed arrows.png
Best part is that apparently there is code for arrows bouncing off surfaces...but it's only applied to cannonballs. Similarly, there is water splashes on certain bodies of water while others have nothing, it has to be laziness if the engine is technically capable of this. Hell, if the modding tools were available, I would bet we could get these basic features like stealing/reactive guards/surface reactions to arrows modded into the game in two weeks time.
BTW the guards are capable of fighting criminals in the city, but they only do this during select few scripted sequences. I guess it really was laziness after all. How long was this piece of shit in development for, again?

I'm watching the Asmongoloid reaction to the Oblivion/Skyrim comparison video, and this frame just about sums it all up
avowed vs skyrim asmongold.png
The soyfreak had a little mental meltdown since he said he liked the game, he likened himself to a cock sucker for doing so and genuinely couldn't believe we had the arrow bouncing technology available in 2006 or environment reactive dragons in 2011 lmfao. This is a nice cherry on top.

Just watched this. THREE ARROW limit,
THREE ARROWS?
You're shitting me. What the fuck? Well I guess you cant pick up your arrows, arrows aren't actually ammo, this game is dogshit slop. I shouldn't be surprised.

Schadenfreude watching him realize how retarded he is and how much shit he had been eating. At least he can admit it.

E: So Friday numbers are in..
Its joever. This game didn't even break 18k

Yakuza is out, so Avowed is thrown away with yesterday's garbage. It was always going to be either it or Monster Hunter that actually got the player numbers this month, so I am not surprised.
I guess this means that Kingdom Come 2 won the special olympics award and is currently the "best" new mainstream western RPG. Not like that's any sort of accolade when it's competition was Veilguard and Avowed, but hey, it's a consolation seeing as nobody will remember that game in a few weeks either!

Mate I'm on Ryzen 5 3600 and RTX 2070, and I won't even mention how badly I've hacked up (meaning mutilated) my W10 to remove telemetry, forced updates, add shit from W11 without upgrading, remove MS store checks for pirated applications and more, because at this point it's closer to digital HRT, but while I got occasional dips below 60 FPS, it has never crashed or even froze on me once. I've been reading stuff about game's performance matching my own experience, and came to conclusion that Obsidian's code monkeys can stay, it's just writers and project managers that should be put to gas chambers.
I'm honestly happy that other players have a better experience than mine. It's the first time this kind of thing happened to me even when I played far more "heavy" games so it's a surprise. And I'm not the only one with the same bad experience so we are in a 50/50 situation it seems
Anyway I won't tinkering my already DIY'ed PC for hours just to play a meh game.
Also though and prayer for the two autistic white coders who carried everything on their shoulders, it must have been absolute hell to make it run.

I watched this video yesterday and I couldn't believe the CEO of Obsidian said that they aim at making "ok" games, not the best games ever. I guess that explains why the director of Avowed said that jank is good. They just don't give a shit.

Gave Worlds another shot with the remaster which was notoriously dogshit, but a patch seemingly fixed the fps issues. I quite like it now, though it really is a super contained arcade-esque single-path no-replayability experience. By no means bad if you put yourself in that 360 oblivion fps mindset. Had pretty fun writing at times too, ignoring the blatant LGBTQ bait.

If you can, get the original version not the Spacer's Choice edition (remaster), it's the worst one.

It's what all devs hope for: A decent inoffensive 7/10 profitable game. He made the mistake of saying it out loud, thinking it'd net them "real folk" points. Like saying "we're here to transcend boundaries and redefine cooking" when you're reselling a Chinese frying pan.

Honestly, GOTY with all dlc and slightly better graphics is fine. I do recall both the original Switch version and the remaster in general being absolutely dogshit games, but so far the remaster has run flawlessly. Revealing how barebone and scripted the game is.. but yknow.

You make an "ok" game when you truly are hampered by sudden constraints beyond your control (an initial low budget doesnt count, but maybe a sudden yanking of funding does imo) people and companies with shoestring budgets still make great experiences.

Avowed is made by a studio with supposedly 2 decades of veterancy with cult classics under their belt (all moot since the brain drain but still) and is published by a division of a multibillion dollar company. And is sold for 69.99 Retail. At its best it should be "great" not just "ok"

I will once again point out the irony of Obsidian/Microsoft trying to buy praise and manufacture success, since this is literally what happens in the overly-hyper corporate world of Outer Worlds. That game is aging better every single year, especially if the studio that made is now starting to resemble Spacer's Choice of gaming: "You tried the best RPGs, now try the rest! Obsidian Studios!" You can insert Microsoft here if you want, same thing.

In the end of the second map your urban companion calls the baddies motherfuckers. Now that's what I want to hear in my fantasy RPG.
Also everyone is brown, refugees are good, Reddit dialogue is funny.
I want to go back in time when passionate nerds made games for like-minded people, instead of these corporate checklist designed games written by hacks.

The Fleek knows his games. This game is just... junk food.

If Veilguard is a giant steaming shit on your plate, and Kangdom Cum 2 is a fine steak lathered in a somewhat sneaky fashion with the chef's Aids ridden cum, than A-wow-ed is just a bland gruel of mashed potatoes and water. It isn't particularly gross nor does it pretend to be something good with a hidden twist of aids Vavra jizz, but it just exists.

I don't even know if I'll get back to playing it even for free. It is just... there. There is no draw, nothing to hook you. If you are locked in a room with it, you can play it and it won't be torture, but there is nothing going for it. It does the bare minimum like food that won't poison you and will keep starvation off. It is flavourless once the Mushroom Fent skizo art is looked past.

Let’s see what the journos are playing!

“It's not often I play a game with my eyes closed - it does not help me play it better - but I've been resting my head back and listening to Avowed at certain points this week. And more specifically, to my aquamarine fish-man companion Kai.

Kai is voiced by Brendan Keener, who Mass Effect fans will know as everyone's favourite companion Garrus, and playing Avowed with him as my sidekick is honestly like going on a new adventure with my space friend again. Except for the fact he looks like a fish-man, hence my eyes being closed.”

Imagine bragging about how cool your $100 game is, because it lets you sit with your eyes closed and listen to an audio file of a voice actor who reminds you of a man you had a crush on in a much better game. This man gets paid to do this.
