Bad/mediocre anime with good openings

The ef anime is pretty mid because of how frustrating the melodrama is, but oh my God its soundtrack is absolutely god-tier. The visual novel more-so, but the anime-original music is really good, too. Definitely hunt down the music, though it's rather lacking on YouTube because of copyright, I think.

The first two seasons of Sailor Moon Crystal were embarrassingly bad (you can see how shit the original art style and animation was in the opening alone), but Moon Pride is a bop.

Tenchi in Tokyo is not good, it's such a slog and it shit the bed trying to be meta, but that opening is so good. Linda Maramote's pipes goes unappreciated.

Almost all of the 80s robot/mech shows had awesome openings. Awesome robot designs. But I often find the actual shows plodding and formulaic. My favorite mecha anime is Votoms, and I've never found anything in the same league as it.

On the subject of Supercell I think I may have been brainwashed by the Japanese to be obsessed with Black Rock Shooter.

Also while I like Samurai 7 I think it qualifies as mediocre, especially if you're a fan of the OG.

I think Brain Powerd is awful and Yoko Kanno was wholly wasted on it. The OP is way too damn good for it and deserved a better series.

The soundtrack was fantastic, and horribly misused by the show. Noir had similar issues.

Hell, make it all the insert songs for the original series. They made this mid vehicle to sell tops to kids into a legit heart-pounding balls-to-the-wall experience.

Now, I've never watched SEL all the way through, so I have no idea if it's good or not. What I do know is that Null hates the fuck out of it, so I'm gonna use this an excuse to post its OP 'cause it's really quite good.

On the topic of things I've actually watched, Demon King Daimao is to this day the worst anime I have ever seen, but the opening is pretty catchy.

And it's impossible to have a conversation about mediocre anime without mentioning Bleach.

My personal vote would have to go for Japan's Transformers anime, with the best being the intro to Micron Densetsu (or as we call it, Transformers Armada):

I always thought the MasterForce opening was too slow, like a lullaby. Seems like an ending song. I feel like the G1 anime started out kind of weak and just got better. I like Victory the most of the three, and the opening theme too.
