HO LEE SHIT
My Rangers got bases loaded no body out TWICE, couldn't get run. Not even a sac fly? Really? 11 Left on base. 1-8 RISP. We were given SIX walks, and nothing. Andrew Heaney played his heart out, 7 innings with one run and he gets the loss. SO, FUCKING, FRUSTRATING.

Games like this are why I don’t give a flying fuck about “Wins” as an evaluation metric for pitchers.

This guy takes a loss and some shit head who left the game after 6 innings and giving up 12 runs gets a “win” because his offense put up 13 and the game ended like that.

Nolan Ryan forever. One of the very greatest pitchers to ever do it and fuck anyone who thinks otherwise and wants to discredit him for playing on some horrible teams.

I think the biggest problem in evaluating pitchers today based on wins is because they don't pitch that many innings. It was never an oddity to have your starting pitcher go 7.2 or 8 innings before bringing in a closer. Relief pitchers were for really bad outings that could at least get you through defensively while your batters tried to get something going. Now pitchers are throwing for MAYBE 5.2 or 6 innings, 7 if they're facing a swing-happy lineup that is either striking out consistently or hitting balls for flyouts/lineouts. And it certainly doesn't have anything to do with toughness, because the modern pitcher is throwing some massive velocity-addled shit. But therein lies the problem: focusing more on velocity than a pitcher's ability to accurately place balls and having a good pitch mix.

speaking of the Rays, their city connect jerseys were revealed today and IMO they're terrible (like 90% of the city connect jerseys).
Arizona has the only City Connect uniforms that don't belong in a fucking bonfire.

Far better than their usual alts that look like a space-age garbageman outfit.

yeah but ALL TIME WALKS LEADER

Here's all the stupid city connects

The Mets uniform looks like Yankees but gayer, maybe worse than the infamous Mercury Mets. The Yellow Red Sox uniform is also cursed.
The only good looking ones look like throwbacks, Braves and Mariners and it would be better if they just were throwbacks.

@Nabol O'tyrin The Padres isn't so bad maybe because Padres normal uniforms are ugly as hell.
As a homer the Brewers city connects are fine and the fan base loves them.

All the sudden, the A's are .500 and only one and half games out of the first.

Wouldn't it be some shit if they are able to get into the playoffs and with that, any team can win the World Series, only to move out of Oakland next season?

Never won a Cy Young, even in the year he struck out 383 batters. What helped Ryan is he never threw a slider, thus saving his elbow.

Was thinking about the pitcher injury increase recently and I was remembering how Randy Johnson had an unusual amount of longevity even compared to pitchers in general, much less other guys throwing 100+ mph. Usually being his size makes you more prone to certain types of injuries, as we see with the NBA, but I wonder if his height here somehow enabled him to throw that fast for that long without destroying his arm the way guys these days do.

Mechanics have alot to do with it. And some guys are just sturdier than others. On top of getting all these guys to pitch harder than their body can handle, PEDs are likely breaking them down as well.

Height is a big advantage for pitching speed. Maybe it's possible before pitch counts and limits became the norm guys were trained to be more durable?

It's because young pitchers are being pushed too hard and have poor training as well. You have kids in high school getting Tommy John surgery so often that the biggest group for the surgery now are aged 15-19. 60% of people getting Tommy John are under 20 years old. They are blowing their arms out in high school because these coaches don't care and the training for endurance is nonexistent.

Nolan Ryan was also a lanky hoss

An admirable first game for Paul Skenes today. Shame he couldn't get out of the 5th, but given time he could be a consistent 6.2 or 7.2 innings starter. The velocity of his fastball is ridiculous but he didn't have good command of it.

4 IP
6 hits
1 run (earned)
1 homerun
2 walks
7 strikeouts

As of now, the Pirates are on top of the Cubbies 6-1

Ended up 10-9 Pirates. What a game.

Also shot out to Matt Chapman and Rhys Hopkins for making my day.
