Battletech - Also known as Trannytech

I noticed MW5 clans is going to be released soon. Never played the series before. I've been reading some lore today and I found it pretty interesting. Then I searched for the thread and of course I find the series infested with trannies. How deep are the roots? Should I stay away from mechwarrior games?
Nah, that shit's only in the Online game, and it's mostly community-made content. The singleplayer/co-op Mechwarrior games haven't tried shoehorning LGBT stuff in at all as far as I can tell.

The roots of tranny shit? It's relatively recent so you have decades of actual, unfucked lore to go through. Skip anything Jihad or-and Allah forgive me for uttering this-Dark Age. Seriously look up anything by Blaine Pardoe, the writer they fired for...having the gal to complain about an insane stalker who is larping as a tranny (lol) and many other insane stalkers and even getting a restraining order on the main stalker. Good writer and based. As for Mechwarrior, you're good. I'd skip to MW1 and start with MW2, MW2: Mercs is great too. MW3 is pretty alright, MW4 is probably the best IMO, and MW5 is skippable. Seriously look up the history of its development, and also ignore anything Piranha Games makes unless it's on heavy discount (so basically just MW5 and the upcoming Clans). MW5 only really feels like a complete Mechwarrior game after having all the overpriced DLC (laughs in Creaminstaller) and some mods, which is usually the sign of a shit game. They did do an nice reference to MW2 in their thumbnail for the Clans teaser, hope it's not just nostalgia baiting...probably it.

For Battletech as a whole it has a lot of unpozzed history but as of recently, especially after Catalyst bought it all those years ago, it has gone to shit. I wish I can recommend places to talk about Battletech without LGBTLMNOPNIGGER+-= garbage attached to it but alas I know not of such a place other than here. That's the sad thing about nerd culture, once it hit the mainstream it became infested, didn't help that it was already filled with leftists but-much like Stonewall fags-the decent folk who survived the oppression of the Satanic Panic (I'm over-exaggerating) are outnumbered by soy cucks, troons, and political bootlickers.
I don't have much hope truth be told, PG is not exactly know for...riveting narratives, or understanding what makes Mechwarrior, Mechwarrior. And the fact that they're paywalling cosmetics is also a red flag.

Quick correction: Catalyst Game Labs doesn't own the license for Battletech. They were issued it by Topps. If they don't make enough cash, Topps is likely to either revoke/fail to renew the license and either issue it to some other company, or mothball the BT IP altogether.

The into cinematic for the turn-based game (just called plain BattleTech) is a nice summation of the events of human history.

You can also check out various vids by Tex and the Black Pants Legion for lore, and they've done what is IMO the funniest meme videos with the Steiner Scout Squad. Its easy to operate in complete stealth if any unit that spots you dies at the same time, just like that "stealth" mission in the latest Armored Core game.

As to the games themselves, the MW4 games are good, but you can just skip ahead to MW4 Mercs. Be sure to install the MekTek MekPak. Those guys may be assholes but they made good stuff. As to the lore: TL;DR its the FedCom Civil War and the last gasp of what remained of the Second Star League, and the Steiners, Cappies, Clanners, and Dracs are all raging assholes.

As to books Michael A. Stackpole's stuff is solid, if frequently repetitive in prose, and covers the vital time periods of the Fourth Succession War and Clan Invasion excellently. I do not recall reading any of Blaine Pardoe's stuff off-hand, unfortunately. Path of Glory by Randall N. Bills has been recommended as excellent, though. And Dagger Point by Thomas S. Gressman was my introduction to BT novels and is a nice look at the Eridani Light Horse and how they handle (or don't, actually) guerilla warfare.

Ah yes, you're right. Much appreciated.

I added that because it makes the tragedy of Catalyst's attempts at enshittening the IP even more intense. They're not even the owners of the franchise, they're the hired guns the souless corporatocrats at Topps hired to make Line Go Up for them.

And while we're here...

The roots are shallow. The nice thing about BattleTech, as opposed to something like, say, Warhammer 40,000, is that BT has well-defined eras that you can always go back to if you want. You can always go back to playing in the FedCom Civil War era, or read the novels set before the Clan Invasion, or write about your own mercenary unit scraping along in the latter years of the Third Succession War. So no matter how idiotic Catalyst's or PGI's decisions are, in the end all the can do is affect the future of the setting. And you'll be hard-pressed to find people who truly are passionate about what these people are doing these days.

So don't worry about it, take the media recommendations from other people in this thread to heart, and have fun. This is the one sci-fi game where all of humanity's problems are due to humans being humans, and to me at least that makes it very compelling.

Rather than this, clan equipment should have better ranges on lasers and the like, and maybe slightly more auto aim because better targeting computers. More weapons too, along with all the other normal clan upgrades.
Conversely the Inner Sphere mech pilots should be much more able to supplex a Summoner while their external speakers go "OHHH YEAHHHHH"

In terms of games imho MW 3 is the best. At least for the hardcore Mech builder like me because at least it has the real construction ruleset implemented. I for one hate the "fixed weapon slot" where you can only insert an enrgy weapon into an energy weapon slot. If i want to build an Anihilator with 6 ER PPc's because "Haha I fry myself with an alpha strike" I should be allowed to do that

Lore wise, the Dark age had some promise but then the direction changed and we got "Hour of the wolf" which some in the BT community consider "This is Alaric Ward's retelling of the event and not what really happened". I read that the original storyline was that the Republic survives but that Stone is turned into some sort of evil genius or madman and that sounded really cool. But nope, we are not saddled with Ilkhan Alaric "Plot armor" Ward and the "we always win" Wolves

After playing MW5 and enjoying it's mid level of enjoyment, where do I get the older games? I see links on MyAbandonWare, but I don't know if I should trust that site.

>Literally bred for war, supreme genetically created warrior elite of best society ever engineered
>Piloting Summoner, hunting freebirth scum as part of the chosen elite in Operation Reclamation
>Freebirth scum fight without honor, force us to go through these narrow canyons on some shithole backwater world
>Round corner, instantly face-checked by some stravag piloting an old, beat up excuse of a Orion
>Taken by surprise, but not worried, this freebirth cannot harm a trueborn Clan Warrior
>Enemy charges me, lifts my mech and somehow manages to smash it into the dusty canyon floor
>Hit my head on the ceiling of my cockpit on the way down, starting to black out

Nah it's a good site, the Mechwarrior plebbit has safe links and instructions for all the games in the side bar.
Neat enough I should avoid watching it? It comes out in 2 days, and even without career mode or mod support I'll be picking it up, but, still.
Nothing big, mostly just gameplay of what you might be fighting and obvious story points you'll note doubt be told at the beginning of the game.

To be fair, it is Clan Smoke Jaguar, the Clan most likely to chimp out and glass your world for looking at them the wrong way. In my personal headcannon, I've always thought of SJ being made up of a lot of darkies, probably something to do with their constant violence
They have always had a fair amount of high-ranked brown-skinned people, even before DEI. They had a lot of high-profile non-white bloodlines, with warriors to match. Leo Showers, Lincoln Osis and Sarah Weaver, for example.

So, for once, the melanin content is actually justified.

Of course, all these characters are gonna get their asses kicked all the way back to Strana Mechty, so... yeah, I can't wait to see how Piranha is going to justify the main character turning coat so they end up on the winning side. Because they sure as shit aren't pulling a ODST and having the player fighting in the Great Refusal with "survive" against the 1st Kathil Uhlans as their only objective.
