+ @DefinitelyNotMeThis game man. I liked seeing Battletech taken to a turn-based setup because I like the Mechwarrior games and Battletech lore but never played the tabletop game, and I like turn-based tactics games.
The missed opportunity with the game is depressing. Fans have 2 decades of their own art and ideas about the style and character of battletech universe, and this faggot decided to make an utterly forgettable handful of androgynous ugly character portraits that have zero reference value to anything the fans envisioned. Fans of the battletech universe will rightfully shit on this game forever.
Get the BTA 3062 mod, it is a total conversion that update tech and factions to 3062 and builds in the WarTech IIC dynamic war mod someone else built, so you can participate in planetary conquests and raids around you across the entire inner sphere. there's also a timeline of canon events for 3062-3065. There is one controversial decision that I love - instead of clan stuff being straight up bullshit munchkin upgrades, it became higher damage/lower range, and they can't max out on as much armor as inner sphere mechs. inability to melee attack well is also built in to the chassis. so they become a way of high-risk high-reward play that rewards really accurate shooting. that's a much cooler more balanced interpretation of the clans than randall bills has done. You play in career mode, but you can access an updated version of the original campaign game via flashpoints. Robust total conversion that includes a gajillion custom portraits from old BT sources and you can add more (i found that custom portraits for megamek work out of the box).
Hyades Rim is another total conversion, an entirely new single-player campaign of about 40 missions that is almost done. it's a what-if scenario where Kamala flees with you and hide out in Taurian space. So you are stuck with just the leopard and don't get the argo until the campaign is almost over.
