Battletech - Also known as Trannytech

This game man. I liked seeing Battletech taken to a turn-based setup because I like the Mechwarrior games and Battletech lore but never played the tabletop game, and I like turn-based tactics games.
The missed opportunity with the game is depressing. Fans have 2 decades of their own art and ideas about the style and character of battletech universe, and this faggot decided to make an utterly forgettable handful of androgynous ugly character portraits that have zero reference value to anything the fans envisioned. Fans of the battletech universe will rightfully shit on this game forever.

Get the BTA 3062 mod, it is a total conversion that update tech and factions to 3062 and builds in the WarTech IIC dynamic war mod someone else built, so you can participate in planetary conquests and raids around you across the entire inner sphere. there's also a timeline of canon events for 3062-3065. There is one controversial decision that I love - instead of clan stuff being straight up bullshit munchkin upgrades, it became higher damage/lower range, and they can't max out on as much armor as inner sphere mechs. inability to melee attack well is also built in to the chassis. so they become a way of high-risk high-reward play that rewards really accurate shooting. that's a much cooler more balanced interpretation of the clans than randall bills has done. You play in career mode, but you can access an updated version of the original campaign game via flashpoints. Robust total conversion that includes a gajillion custom portraits from old BT sources and you can add more (i found that custom portraits for megamek work out of the box).

Hyades Rim is another total conversion, an entirely new single-player campaign of about 40 missions that is almost done. it's a what-if scenario where Kamala flees with you and hide out in Taurian space. So you are stuck with just the leopard and don't get the argo until the campaign is almost over.

Mad Cat on Mad Cat violence.

erm actually...

Its hard to build a Clan mech without bullshit Clan tech though.

Still, the FedCom Civil War era -1Ar model isn't bad since SNPPCs and MML's are hard to beat.
It's actually a really usable mech, just not a mad cat and would get rolled in that fight

Pretty much, yeah. I mean, the turn-based combat is okay, but the fact none of your pilots are actual characters is depressing.

I really wanted the devs to lean more into making pilots you recruit similar to party members in cRPGs, and padding out the handcrafted ones with randomly generated filler characters (again, similar to cRPGs that allow you to make your own party), along with personalized quests/flashpoints for them.

The story is also a big miss by not allowing you to betray princess whatshername like an actual, proper mercenary. MW4; Mercs let you backstab everyone if you so wished, and ended by allowing you to carve out a whole planet for yourself. Instead the whole story makes the player feel like a side character there to observe the YASS QUEEN slay.

It's also a pity that everyone under your command is an unlikeable cunt, especially the space Muslim hambeast, and that the whole cast screams "woke checklist".

I really, really wish this game had come out 20 years ago, or that an actual competent developer would take a shot at a similar concept. The story would have been better, the devs would have been mor ambitious, the game would have actually been aimed at the real audience, instead of the Bluesky userbase and modding would have been even more viable.

Yes but it invites the comparison
ClanTech is bullshit, news at 11.

The game went from the only headchoppers being 15+ ton bastards that occupied at least a half a side torso, to every test-tube baby carrying 15-damage cross-the-map decapitation projectors and 20 free heat capacity bone-stock.

If they wanted to create a side product so much, they should have gone with an alternate timeline where the Clans never invaded instead of that goofy-ass "Gothic" line.

One cool idea would be if they released a new Empires Aflame sourcebook under the Continuum series umbrella, but knowing CGL...

Agreed it's the best of the bunch but, the 2a is a lot of fun and very brawly. Also clans lack RACs so feels more IS and definitely feels Davion. In the words of the late Hanse HA HA TIME FOR FREEDOM DAKAKAKAKAKAKKAK

Oh for sure, but if we're talking about Hanse Davion, that autocannon seller, nothing is going to beat the hilarity of slapping 6 LAC/5 on a Longbow just because the FedSuns could.

... you know you're memeing too close to the sun when you make the Kuritan version of that meme (the Catapult K2) look reasonable.

To be somewhat fair to them just doing things for the lols is what science academies like NAIS are expected to do sometimes, and so they did a limited production run of those just to see what would happen when they hit the field. Its certainly not anything on the scale of the -K2 or even worse, the -8R variant of the Awesome.

Look, someone must have looked at the Awesome 8R and thought it was a good idea and worth repeating.

Because now we have the fuckin' Mauler.

You take everything back you said about the k2 its not meme, it is love. I'm not even a drac but it looks kick ass and it's a great fire support unit esp in its intro tech setting. Since most don't use infantry I'd not kind the MGs to something else tho.
