Biggest bullshit in a video game

Grinding in RPGs that aren't retro.. I understand why Dragon Quest makes you grind, since you could finish it in less than an hour without it, but modern games have no excuse to require level grinding to progress. I'm alright with grinding just to get stronger of my own volition or for optional content to some extent, though, because there's a difference between doing it willingly and being forced against my will to grind levels to see more of the storyline. This is also why I don't enjoy most free-to-play games, since they rely on making you grind a ton or pay up.

This, but also when lategame stuff has a massive level spike and forces you to grind. Specifically for me, Calasmos in DQ11 and Red in the Johto pokemon games. Its even worse in these two examples because the level curve is usually gentle and you never really need to grind

You don't need to grind in DQ11, just spend 15-30 minutes with Metal Slimes.

I would appreciate it if games told you what happens when you press start during a cutscene. Just a "You can press [start] during a cutscene to pause it" during a loading screen. It's probably very common now that the game pauses instead of skipping but having made the mistake too many times in the past makes me hesitant to try if I don't know for sure. There's a lot of talk about accessibility these days and I would like to know if I can access the bathroom.

On the other side of that coin, tellme when and how to skip the cutscenes. Cod has some pretty uninteresting pre mission cutscenes that I'd love to skip after the first time viewing, but because they load the level in the background, you cant skip them immediately. It would be nice to know when the loading is done so I can skip, and if I'm pressing start/cancel/confirm/etc to skip.

I've started playing the demo of balan wonderworld and it's the blandest platformer i've played in ages, and to think it's made by Yuji Naka and funded by Square-Enix.
Nothing feels right, it's like none of these people ever played a platformer before. Wile i know it's just a demo, i'm almost 100% sure this will be one of the worst games released this year.

Red in HG/SS is easily the most bullshit level spike in any Pokémon game. Let me explain:
-Red's weakest Pokémon is a level 80 Lapras.
-The Johto Champion, Lance, has a level 75 Dragonite as his strongest Pokémon.
-The Pokémon in Mount Silver, the place where you fight Red, are at most level 50. These are the strongest wild Pokémon in the game.
-By the time you're able to fight Red, your team will probably be in the early to mid-fifties if you didn't do any grinding before unlocking Mount Silver. You'll want them to be at least level 70 before you fight Red.
Grinding 20 levels to fight one guy is horseshit, and it's made worse because you don't have many grinding options. The Pokémon on Mount Silver don't give enough experience to make grinding there efficient, fighting the Elite Four/Champion over and over is a massive pain because they all get new teams and a level spike of their own as soon as you unlock Mount Silver, and rematching the Gym Leaders requires finding them in specific places at specific days of the week to get their phone numbers first. It's a massive slog, but people put up with it because playing through the Johto games without beating Red just doesn't feel right.

Another similar thing is the unpredictable results you get if you press the "home" button on your PS/Xbox controller during a cutscene.

Some games suspend until you go back into them but some games keep running "underneath" the home screen. Very annoying to come back from a piss break and your guy is just standing there after you've missed a cutscene.

Bit of a cop out here but most fighting game bosses are pretty much tailor made to be bullshit.

Overpowered regular attacks, supers that can deal insane damage even if you block them (looking at you Gill) and command reading so the AI knows exactly what to do to counter your moves. It was somewhat forgivable back in the arcade days because companies needed some way to keep people pumping coins into the machines but these days the only point to making them as bullshit as they are is just pure sadism.

If I had to give a specific example, Parace L'Sia from Arcana Heart 3 takes everything I said about cheap fighting game bosses and cranks it up to 11, only they added teleportation and regenerating health into the mix.
Look at this shit, somebody saw this, play tested this and said "Yep, that's good, ship it out." This is the type of thing you'd see from a MUGEN character.

I garuantee the dev said to themself that it was balanced because she doesn't start at max HP.

I've seen horrible things from MUGEN characters. Some cunt made and released a character that was scripted to parry all incoming attacks and instantly counter attack with a 1 frame grapple. Saw another one where the creator "forgot" to give the character a hitbox but gave them ludicrously sized hurtboxes. In both instances, the creators thought it was fair.
