The starting point Null proposes is entirely reasonable and @Secret Asshole 's post explaining how threats work in a legal sense is a great primer on what the absolute "do not cross" line is, or "how to avoid causing Null to get Fed-mail", so I would humbly suggest it be added in bold to whatever the final rule changes end up in.

My only suggestion with regards to the content of that primer is to add mention that context surrounding a post or lines within a post that may constitute a threat is irrelevant for our purposes. "Context" would be a defense either when explaining to Law Enforcement (through a lawyer) why they should not arrest and/or charge you, or for use in court once charged with a crime, so if you have to add context to make what you want to say (or already said) in a post not cross the fairly easy to spot line, you already failed and at the very least need to re-word, and should probably re-think, the post.

tl:dr: if you need context for your post to not be a credible threat, Null already got Fed-mail, you fucking retard.


All that aside, I'll reiterate my support for keeping A&N and Happenings open, I've already waxed autistic about why elsewhere so I won't repeat myself.

Arguing that A&H, and Happenings act as containment boards is flimsy at best because the users just keep spilling out into the rest of the site. Now, this might not be case, but I think if you got rid of A&H, and Happenings more of the spergs would spill out into the rest of the site at first, but they would soon fuck off because what drew them here in the first place would no longer be around. They would just become refugees for some other site to deal with.

Yeah, because once they try to shit up other boards with their ''agenda'', I think normal users who are here to laugh and have a good time won't buy their bullshit and probably will report them. Politards and the like won't last much on other boards, because they have literally nothing to contribute here.

Though I suppose if someone is retarded enough to post what he did, they can't be expected to protect their own anonymity.

I post on A&H regularly, and I think it would be a pity to see it go. In my own view the problem is a certain number of people that post almost exclusively on A&H and have little regard for the rest of the site, something which they're often quite proud of. I'd compare them to the British TERF's who post exclusively on a few specific tranny threads. They take advantage of the opportunity to post content that they couldn't anywhere else (at least nowhere it would be read) while sneering at the site as a whole.

A lot of people have made suggestions. I'm not in favour of mass bannings. However there are already parts of the forum that limit access, perhaps that might be a solution for A&H.

Also its highly likely the FBI has bots which pick up and archive posts, so it might not have mattered even if I did delete it. They would have noticed it and contacted Null anyway. Its VERY unlikely an actual agent was reading the thread. Probably a registered account that is a bot and just scans the site for 'key' words or phrases like every other site out there.

Ages ago a guy on SA got a knocking from the Secret Service because he joked about making a threat on the President. Its unlikely the Secret Service was lurking on SA. Again, these bots are set up to comb through massive amounts of data. So if you're going to do something like this, in all likelihood it is an AI that's archiving it and brining it to the attention of the authorities. So the mods will not save you.
