Of course, this is also the issue with writing the same character for the better part of a century: eventually, these sorts of logical contradictions will build up to the point where even people who don't see it as a problem at least acknowledge that it exists. Even setting aside the multiple continuity reboots, how many times does Batman have to let the Joker get away before he decides enough is enough? Because it's got to be in the hundreds by now, and apparently it's not a concern yet despite God knows how many bodies piling up.

I'm not saying that I'm a very mature person that needs my protagonists to go around murdering everyone in sight, but there's a reason that the commandment is better translated as "thou shalt not murder" and not "thou shalt not kill." Because sometimes, there is such a thing as a necessary death.

This is a big issue present in American comics. As you mentioned, they've kept the same properties ongoing for nearly a century now. Stories have to eventually reach their conclusion.

They could at least mitigate this by keeping the characters fresh. You can have a long-running series, but have Batman have his storyline with The Joker and then have a new villain take his place.

I don't think so, the manga starts with Goku and while she's the one driving the story forward, it's about him saving her while looking for the Dragon Balls. What's funny is that the first volume has a translated promo for it that implies Goku and Bulma were supposed to become a couple. Originally Goku was supposed to be 14, though it was later changed to 12 and explained that Goku just couldn't count, which made more sense considering his height. Not sure when that was changed, but it must have been early since Yamcha was introduced five chapters later and Goku got engaged to 13-year-old Chichi.

It is a shame all the original characters got sidelined because the others were just way too powerful that they made everyone else useless. Hell, Yajirobe was introduced as a guy who could go toe-to-toe with Goku just after the martial arts tournament and then after King Piccolo was dealt with, he was just a joke. But as Toriyama admitted, he didn't really plan, he just goofed off until he needed to get to work, then threw everything together at the last minute. Which pissed off a lot of other people because even his half-assed stuff kicked most other's asses.

Hard to say at this point if it's the last thing Bob is going to do for them at all, but it wouldn't surprise me if they quietly stop asking him to do anything else. Agreed with @Ralph Barnhardt, Bob's analysis is so wrong it's retarded. The female characters in Dragon Ball pretty much without fail start out as competent fighters, but after their initial arc is over, they frequently become increasingly irrelevant to the overall plot. Chichi's only purpose is to nag Goku, Videl not nearly as much to Gohan, and only when they actually show up, maybe once an arc or so if that. 18 at least remains a competent fighter, but when the cast is as large as it is, she isn't always needed. And Bulma does continue to develop tech that the gang uses, but she's also pretty vain and hardly the shining maternal example Bob's implying. Beyond those four, there are basically zero recurring female characters.

Dragon Ball is and always has been about manly men punching each other in the face and screaming (although it's at its best when it's not doing that and they're just hanging out and goofing off instead).

It's been an ongoing question of mine where Bob's worldview comes from, and I think my best working theory is pure autism making him unable to realize that other people don't see things the way he does.
