I have had the experience of doing B2C sales. I like it, but you deal with a lot of boomers. Maybe I'm a masochist, but I like cold calling and pressing the dial button. I think I've gotten the most boomers selling insurance contracts as the agency I worked for really targeted homeowners because our auto insurance price was bad... when you filter for home owners, you are going to get a lot of boomers.

The birthdate range that's really bad is anything 1950-1980. Once you get into the 1980s birthdates people are generally fine.

Observations and hatreds:

1) Boomers have no idea how much rent is / how much of a good deal they got. You get people complaining about having a $400 mortgage payment being too expensive and that "I can't live paying this much for my mortgage payment". For reference, at the time I thought I was getting a deal paying $800 a month for my apartment.

1.5) A subset is the boomer's retard kid who has the house for free and is complaining he has to pay $150 a month for his home insurance. Fuck that guy.

2) "I'm on a fixed income". This phrase. I hate this fucking phrase. At a certain point depending upon how the conversation went I'd hit them with, "yeah, pretty much everyone with a salary is on a fixed income these days, and prices are hurting everyone". If the guy was an asshole OR I want to break his brain (sometimes you want to do that, especially if they are a talker and you want to re-direct) I'd hit them with, "well, if you are on social security it is adjusted for inflation every year while my salary isn't, so you are you not getting your social security payments for some reason?". After the shock you pivot to, "so, does your home have a basement?" or "Do you have a sump pump in your crawl sapce?" or if the guy is an asshole you just keep fighting with him over it.

3) The amount of old people with bad credit / nothing saved for retirement is astonishing. All the time you pull these people's consumer reports and you say, 'holy hell, you ain't got no claims, but your insurance score is trash, why?' and then you realize the person is finacing a brand new truck and an SUV and has a reverse mortagage on their house... and of course... "I'm on a fixed income". Fucking bastards. The fact that they complain when they starve after not saving food for winter is insane. I'm glad their insurance is expensive.

4) Boomers don't care about their kids. I've had so many of these idiots who want to insure their house for $50,000 (the amount of the heloc they have... of course they have a heloc) because "if something happens, my kids already have a home, so I'll just live with them". I've had people say, "yeah, I don't care if my kids don't get anything, I'll just put a trailer on the plot". Which is insane.

5) Its cheaper if you are married. Our system also only cared about the Insurance score of the first named insured, so often times running in wife's name would be cheaper. So, you want to win on price, because boomer only fucking cares about price... So you ask, "does anyone else need to be on the policy", when doing a home insurance quote its a real 50/50 shot if they will mention their wife or not. Next, because I'm a good salesman you pivot to the auto quote before you give them the home price (we got paid double comish if we sold a bundle!) so after getting home details you ask them, "what kinda car do you drive?" (you don't even ask if they want the auto quote or not, you are adoing a fucking auto quote retard), and then you say, "does anyone else drive your cars regularly" and then of course, "ohhh yeah, my wife"... of course. Now, sometimes this can go south,

Me: "So, if I can get your wife's name and birthdate so I can put her on the policy"

Boomer retard: "You don't need that."

Me: "Well, its going to be cheaper if I run you as married."

Boomer retard: "Well, run me as married then"

Me: "Well, I'll need your wife's name and brithdate then"

Boomer: "well, why do you need that."

Me: "Okay, I'll run you as single then."

Boomer: "But I'm married"

.... He hung up on me soon after this. I pulled his wife's info through a shitty carrier (that takes time to do a quote for) and texted it to him as a fuck you.

6) We had a lead vendor that would literally screen record them filling out the form. I've sent boomer retards that video to prove that they actually did in fact request a quote from our agency... directly. Retards can't even remember what they did 5 minutes ago.

7) Actual retards who still think they are sane... For example I asked a woman if she had a fireplace and she says she hasn't been in the living room in a while. I asked her if she has insurance, and she says no...but she has a mortgage (holy shit... she might be force placed and totally fucked in that case)... I ask her if the outside of her home is brick or siding and she doesn't know. How do you not know what the outside of your house is made of??? I had one retard woman buy a mobile home insurance policy and then called me back the next week asking for her auto insurance documents because hse cancelled her auto insurance even though she only bought mobile home insurance off of me (she cancelled two months later, good. Fuck you Donna)

8) Boomers will send your their current policy and block out the price. Its funny because I don't actually set the price, I just plug in their info and computer does its magic. Even if you explain that to them, they still won't tell you what they are paying. Its hilarious.... to be fair, I'm sure there were some real scumbag insurance guys back in the day, so sure...

I could go on, and on, and on... its insane how

a) entitled they are
b) rude they are
c) retarded and stupid they are
d) how uncaring they are
e) how much debt they are in even though they are old as shit

Mind blowing really.

I remember reading something similar about how some Boomer complained about a bank not letting him manage his wife's banking account without her authorization.
I ask her if the outside of her home is brick or siding and she doesn't know. How do you not know what the outside of your house is made of???
These are the same Boomers who go to sell their homes for $400,000 with zero work put into it and expect it to sell for that much.

Boomer milfs were superior

I can see a milf extinction event in another decade when millennial women get up in years because theyre all primo facto self loathing coal burners
Boomer women looked better in general just by virtue of being thinner lol. All those cigarettes would stop your food cravings combined with diet pills.

Millenial women just so out of shape they the first generation that bought into the body positive movement. So many are just fat because of shitty fast food and lack of pressure to be thin. And zoomer women all brown now. Spic, pajeet, and nigger women just insanely fat lol. In Canada we got pajeets primarily and they all muffin tops.

Funniest thing is face wise everyone aging better because we don't smoke as much anymore but who cares how your face looks when you built like Shrek.

Granted, I feel like zoomer are sort of going K shaped with their body types. While the majority of millennial women are dumpy or out right fat, the zoomers seem to either be really fat or thin. Less in the 15-30 lb overweight range, more like 125 lbs or 240 lbs. I went to a college bar district this weekend and the dichotomy was apparent enough that I noticed. There's a real polarization happening with zoomers. They are either one or the other. Fat or thin, rich or poor, liberal or right wing, slovenly or doin too much. It's bizarre but not surprising.

Boomers had the most consistency of the past few generations. Most women were thin, if you were even on the high side of a healthy BMI you were considered laughably fat (gen x too.) Most political leaders were interchangeable, so a political stance amounted to fuck all. People were better off financially, and there were even distributions between class levels.

Older millennials were the last gen with a chance to catch a chopper out of nam, so to speak, but also where these societal extremes were really synthesized. If you're a millennial that played your cards decently (bought a home before 2023, invested in the 2010s, didn't get caught up in political divisions and gender wars), you're probably pretty fine right now. But most of em didn't because they carry the same hedonist genes the boomers passed on.

All I can say for zoomers is that our new black and white society makes it very easy to tell which side you need to be on in order to have success. Do anything you can to be on that side. There's no such thing as a pleasant middle ground anymore.

shitty fast food
To be honest I think the main culprit is soda and snack foods. The quickest way to keep yourself on track is to abstain from soda and other sugary drinks and not have snacks outside designated meal times.

A lot of people also vastly overestimate how sedentary they really are and need to adjust their diets from what is historically peasant food meant to carb load and protein load you for full days of labor to lighter stuff. A shitload of people spend almost all of their time in a chair!

Boomers have no idea how much rent is / how much of a good deal they got. You get people complaining about having a $400 mortgage payment being too expensive and that "I can't live paying this much for my mortgage payment".
If I heard a boomer complain about a $400 mortgage in person, I would fedpost until they have to taze me or shoot me with a tranquilizer. I would do horrible, unforgivable, soul-crushing things for a $400 mortgage. Holy fuck.

I want to share a post I saw on Boomerbook.

"My husband and I are both recently retired. Last year we inherited a small house from my mom. We have a house in (town 2 hours away), but have been living here because for one this house doesn’t have stares and that one needs a lot of work. I have actually been living here for over two years now. The property taxes were high here to begin with and I figured that they would increase, but I had no idea. When we received the tax bills I almost fell over. They increased by almost 400% and are now almost as much my Social Security income for the entire year!

They said this can’t be looked at by the board until December. I don’t know what to do at this point. This is really taking a toll on me and making me physically ill. Selling and moving out can’t happen overnight. Any thoughts or advice ?"

This cunt gets free money from the government for existing, she got a house FOR FREE, she now owns two houses (two more than most people), she hasn't done anything with the other one she owns even though she was presumably living in it for years, she doesn't want to sell the other one that she apparently doesn't want but she has the fucking nerve to bitch about the taxes she has to pay?

I think a lot of the boomers don't realize that the money they paid into the system has long been done spent on their parents. They think that they are "just getting what they paid in" which isn't true... they are eating a free lunch off of me. Let me remind all of you: COMMISSION IS TAXED AT 33%. Now, I've never worked a commission only job because I'm not retarded, and I'm just not built for that. I love closing down boomers because it feels like I'm clawing back some of the money I'm owed from them wasting money on shit.

The only thing these people have to pay for is their car insurance, their home insurance, property tax, utility bill, and food. I think the total of that would nominally be, what, maybe $1,000 a month AT MOST ($400 for food, say $300 for insurance, $300 for utilities and taxes). If you have saved even a little bit for retirement you can basically cashflow that indefinitely. With social security payments you could live off of that plus the S+P 500 return on a nut no bigger than $100,000 with ease ($8k a year as a conservative estimate).

But, what ends up happening (and I've lost deals because "I'm on vacation"... bitch, your life is a vacation), is they over spend and live like no tomorrow. Thusly, they end up having to get a HELOC or do a reverse mortgage or re-mortgage in order to keep up their life style. Thus, instead of living modestly and prudently, its "me, me, me... now now now" and then they have the gall to complain that they don't have money to live off of. Bitch, just don't go on a cruise, you can't afford it. You spent all the money you had saved on bullshit, and now at 78 you ain't got nothing left. Suffa.

Also, I forgot one salesman related hatred that I ran into today as your neighborhood B2C sales guy.

Brrrr, brrrr (dial out)

Boomer (yelling): HELLLLOOOOO?

Me: Hi this is [me] from [company], how are you doing today?

Boomer's TV: pssshh, ahhahaha, rrrr

Boomer: WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU?

Me (yelling now): I WAS JUST ASKING YOU HOW YOU WERE DOING, I SEE YOU WERE LOOKING AROUND FOR [product]

Boomer: NO, I'M BUSY!

Holy shit that's so fucking annoying. Firstly, turn down your fucking TV you fucking savage. Some of these guys have their TV louder than them. Once I dialed out and it was straight porno at like 2:30 in the afternoon. Now, look, we can argue the merits or demerits of porno, I'll let God be the judge, but 2:30 in the afternoon on your big screen cranked? What the fuck.

Secondly, these mother fuckers are sitting watching TV all the fucking time. Does that constitute busy to you? Personally I wouldn't sit around and watch TV, but if I put in online for a quote on my insurance, or mortgage, or financial stuff, etc. I wouldn't be "busy" watching TV.

...

"Nooooow leeeeemmmmmiiiiieeeee ask you this" (I fucking hate that fucking phrase they all fucking use. Especially people from fucking Texas, and rural midwest).... would any of you fine Kiwi Farmers decide to pick up your phone while you are waiting in the room for the doctor? I wouldn't. I'm not talking about the waiting room, I'm talking in the room where you see the actual doctor. How many times this happens in unbelievable. These fuckers are at the doctor more often than church it seems. And what gets me is they pick up the phone! I don't get it. Why pick up the phone if you are busy?

...

There is one thing that does make me sad, and which I think the younger generation will have to atone for and explain at the judgement.... nursing homes really are hell. Truly, truly I say unto you: putting you parents in a home is a grave sin. Some are better than others sure... I've had to go visit some people in my days and when you are essentially destitute all you get is a bed and a TV. Its really, really sad. So, we can hate all we want, but I don't think any human deserves that personally. Once your standard medicare runs out, don't make me dig up the health insurance study materials (I hate medicare suppliments, its so regualted and you can get into a lot of trouble if you fuck up selling those), you basically sit and wait to die in a hospital bed until you you pass.

I get this one a lot from people who are weighing 70,000 dollar Rolexes. Mother fuckers, how you on a fixed income, but you trying to get me to build you a $40,000 porch? No, we do not Take payment installments for the material. All the material has to be paid for upfront.

Why is that? Well, because material fluctuates in price because of on. Known factors that I cannot control. No, I'm not trying to scam you. This is how the market works.
How do I know you're not just going to take my deposit and leave? Dude? I literally have a actual business address, business cards, insurance, and a little van with my full legal name on it and my home address.

Yes, you can buy the material if you want, but it's gonna cost you more money because I have connections at the lumberyard you do not have. No, I'm not giving you the name of my salesman. It's not your connection And they do not sell two homeowners or DIY is it's a professional company.

No, I am not moving any of your stuff out of your yard. That is your responsibility to do before I will start the work.

No, I'm not giving you a discount if you recommend me to your friends. That is not how my business works and I have no interest in dealing with your cheap ass friends.

And the last one is no, I do not take payments in trades. I have no interest in your inflated price of your shitty antique cars or boomer motorcycles. I take cash money.

Day I show up, we start building deck and unloading my tools. When did I pay someone to start building a deck? I was like, here's the deposit, here is your signature and here is the Email I told you that this was the start date.

I didn't know why you planned to barbecue this day. I have no control over you forgetting that I was dropping off all the material today. No, I'm not gonna come back and start a different day.

I literally sent you two emails reminding you you were being charged an extra $600 for the demobilization charge. Why am I being charged this? Because it literally is in the contract? Because I can't just. Be out a day because you forgot after being reminded this many times.

OK. I'm not getting the deck belt OK then. Well, I still am not refunding the material Price or the deposit. That is a non refundable thing you agreed to. Price or the deposit? That is a non refundable thing, you agreed to

Then you'll be hearing from my lawyer OK. I can give you the number of my lawyer as well if you would like to contact him.

Eventually he did just agree to get the deck built and paid the $600.

The point being is Boomers have no frame of reference when it comes to anybody besides themselves. And this was an actual conversation I had with a guy two months ago.

Yeah, but most of the people who started these big nursing home chains, I know one of the guys, and he's a boomer. So it's boomers doing other boomers out of the money. So it's Boomer on Boomer violence, really.
And not all nursing homes are bad. A few that are run by the Moravians are actually quite nice.

The amount of people who salivate over the $10 gift cards I sent out for referral quotes is hilarious.

Ohhh, I forgot about this shit that happened to my co-worker. So he was saving this person like $80 dollars A MONTH compared to the competition. Of course, lady is shopping around for price due to "fixed income". This is such a high probability close you'd be a fool not to chase this.... Lady was like, "I wanna see it on paper", fine, no problem, calls her back three days later, "yeah, I got that, haven't had time to look at." Calls her the next day, "ohh, I've not had time to look at it call me back Monday"... Calls her back Monday, "That's not enough for me to switch."... Now, my boy is like "holy shit, what a fucking idiot, she must have confused me with some other jackass", he then calls her back and is like, "hay, so we have the same service you currently have, but its like $80 a month cheaper"... "well, I'm on vacation, can you send it to me in the mail for when I get home". Holy shit was my buddy mad as hell. He quit chasing and gave it to me. She blocked me because "I'm on vacation for a month, call be back when I get home"... Lady, I'm not that freaking hungry retard.

I generally agree on nursing homes, a lot of them are badly run and people just leave family members to rot and never visit. Good ones do exist, but are hideously expensive (think 7k-8k per month).

My family had to put a elderly aunt in a home a few years back, (she was pre-Boomer, born 1927). She grew up in the depression so was frugal with money, plus had a teacher's pension since she was a teacher when those pensions were still common. Went senile around 94 and was unable to live in her house alone, which was a 6-10 hour drive from the rest of the family. The original plan was for her to take turns living at 3 different houses, but the dementia progressed to the point that moving places every few months was extremely disorienting, and she also needed increasing levels of supervision, including in the bathroom. After less than a year of this, our families simply couldn't do it. Her money paid for a good place and we visited a few times a week, until she died totally incoherent at 97.

I just want to make the point that sometimes a nursing home is the best/only option, but the good ones are expensive.

To the point of the thread, it is likely a lot of boomers won't have the money for good end-of-life care, so their families or the state will have to pick up the slack, and to your point about the condition of most most nursing homes, I can't imagine it will be a happy last few years for them.

Not to get philosophical or nihilistic, but I don't think people are supposed to live that long. Nobody needs to spend their last years crying in embarassment because they shat themselves while family members they didn't even recognize were visiting.

So, I never sold Medicare plans, nor will I ever sell them because, again, they are stupidly heavily regulated and also complicated. You have to read exact scripts. Its one of the few products you can actually go to jail for selling wrong (of course the fucking boomers make their product protected). I also don't think you can 1-call close them down either, so fuck that on the principle of the matter.... so grain of salt to what I say next... I did dust off the books from back when I had to get licensed....

"Custodial care" isn't typically covered past the 100 day limit, which is why you have "long term care" insurance which you can buy, but which is becoming a rare and expensive product because the boomers lived so fucking long that companies were losing shit loads of money on it. Apaprently the hay-day for specific long-term care insurance was the 90s and 00s, and companies started getting fucked in the 2010s over the boomers just not dying!

Basically there are three different types of Medicare. 1) Basic coverage everyone gets, 2) Supplement, 3) Advantage (part c plans, more like your healthcare + medicare). It is illegal to have both (2) and (3), and if someone has (3) you can't legally sell them (2)...

Basic Medicare (1) will only cover 100 days of nursing home care. Medicare basically works off of a clock or a "benefit period" or a "time deductible". After 60 days of being healthy the clock resets. For the first 20 days you pay nothing for skilled nurshing, then for the rest of the time you only have to pay $217 total for days 20-100. You also get flex days, but fuck that, lets ignore that.

You can buy a medicare suppliment (2), but that's only going to take away your co-insurance and hospital deductible. Its not going to give you extra days.
Now you can get a Medicare Advantage plan (3), but those also don't cover nursing home or "custodial care".

So what happens when I run out of money or my medicare is up? I've heard of people saying, "she was in a nice place until her medicare ran out".

---

Now, back when I was getting licensed there was talk about medicaid in a few places, but when you actually went to the medicaid section of the book it was like two paragraphs and very vague, and that's because there is nothing to sell and its 100% taken care of by the government (maybe an NGO can help you fill out forms or something). MEDICAID PAYS FOR EVERY FUCKING THING (except for drugs and dental if I recall correctly, which gives crackheads a plausible reason to panhandle). Medicaid is subsidized by the feds, but each state has their own rules. In the state of Florida, which has a stupid high percentage of old people, basically sets the financial cap as follows according to: https://www.medicaidplanningassistance.org/medicaid-eligibility-florida/

Basically, $2,000 asset cap (but you can keep one house, a car, and they aren't going to count your toilet paper / household items), and you gotta make less than $2,982 a month which you will if you are only on social security. Although, maybe if you are on a good oldschool pension AND social security you might get turbo screwed. The antisemitic in the audience should know that holocaust restitution payments don't count as income for this purpose. Now, before you guys start getting scammy ideas, you can't have transfered assets in the past 5 years, so make sure to plan ahead before you sink your own ship in your old age to milk the teat of government.

ESSENTIALLY THE TYPICAL PROGRESSION IS THIS:
Start in the "nice room" you get from Medicare, and then bleed out your assets until you have none left. Afterwards you apply for medicaid and you get shipped off to the hell of shitty nursing homes. Bare in mind its two people to a room at these places. In the places I've been in they essentially have a Medicare/Paid wing and then the plebian nightmare of the medicaid wing. I've seen people lose the will to live in such places. If you don't get the picture, essentially you get scammed on the front end, and then the tax payer floats your boat for free on the back-end. The whole industry is scummy, horror stories I've been told by my Grandma and others who have worked there aside.

---

My actual opinion on entitlement programs is that we should do a $25k a year UBI and do no disability, no medicare, no medicaid, no nothing. You get your $25k a year, and if you fuck up, then you should die on the street. Its simple, would end the bullshit, and would also effectively create a price ceiling for these places which would lower our tax burden and create competition as well as lower our insurance costs (medicaid folks now have to buy into the pseudo-private system). It would also end the single parenting trap and the baby factory benefit milkers. If you are married the household should get $60k (or their income will be increased to 60k + some % of extra income one spouse might earn) in order to encourage marriage. I'd also be in favor of a benefit per-child that is taken away in case of divorce (two parent household even in households with low to moderate conflict are statistically better!). We could argue the actual numbers, but the whole system is kinda unfair and encourages bad behavior in my mind. I buy good insurance, and its pricey. A lot of these scum fucks stand to loose by getting a fucking job. I think a low level UBI with no other "programs" would solve a lot of problems, while still allowing for a safety net which might have some social benifit.

I love boomer stories about how they had to be super frugal in their youth and young adulthood. Because I know it wasn't that way, at least not how they told it. Sure, there was less technology, and less creature comforts in homes I guess. But years and years ago I helped de-hoard several houses/apartments/storage units of boomers and silent gens. Many used to have budget books and kept lots of receipts and financial docs and what have you. And at times it was quite painful to look through them.
My favorite was this silent gen dude. (to be fair he never said he had a hard time). Maybe he had it harsh in his early live, being born in 1931. But later on.. he became a teacher, which back then only got a modest wage in the beginning, but looking through his budget, his apartment cost him like 11% of his monthly wage (including utilites), and he didn't have to buy any appliances because they were included in the rent. He went out to eat about 5 times a week, too, apparently restaurants were way cheaper back then?
In general, rent and real estate was just so much cheaper back then. Everything else, from cars to appliances, travel, whatever else probably kept getting cheaper for decades and started out quite expensive, but I feel like all this freed up purchasing power has been more than eaten up just by the increases in rent and real estate prices. And recently everything else started getting more expensive again too, or started becoming extremely shitty because everything is built by pajeets and gooks now.

I also love the accusation of door dashing and going out to eat boomers level at everyone else - IME boomers go out way more, used to go out more, and at least locally, restaurants and clubs are dying because millennials use them less than everyone before them, and zoomers can't be bothered at all, or can't afford to, anyway.

tgi friday's, boston market, ruby tuesdays, outback steakhouse, and hooters went out of business. apparently some of them are still solvent, but they're totally gone from where i live now. they're the exact same thing as olive garden though - insanely highly marked up, mediocre sysco food, wrapped up in this weird performative french fine dining thing despite literally not even paying the waitstaff minimum wage

the asian resturants around here usually dont seem to give a shit about that whole thing too so it's very bizarre that you can just get better service from tactless and shoeless cambodians than you do this whole elaborate corporate boomer identity where they have to watch you like a hawk but also pretend that they're your friend

>Start renting house in area with college kids
>old dishwasher nonfunctional, 10 years past date, replaced
>Water heater nonfunctional. 30 years past date, replaced
>oven nonfunctional. 10 years past date, month goes by.
>email maintenance team fairly consistently, finally email boomer owner.

“Yeah you’ve taken a lot of their time so they are prioritizing other renters”

>ask him to just mail me the board for the oven and I can install it myself and note college kids probably don’t report issues

“I can’t do that unless your a qualified electrician”.

>politely remind him of my profession.
>no response

In most states, if he neglects repairs long enough, you can replace it yourself and take him to small claims court to claw the replacement cost out of him. The fun part of small claims court is that it's No Lawyers Allowed, so use your superior 100 IQ to dunk on his borderline-retarded 85 IQ.

To the point of the thread, it is likely a lot of boomers won't have the money for good end-of-life care, so their families or the state will have to pick up the slack,
In my case my boomer parents have plenty of money for end of life care. But they instead are choosing to be parasite parents/grandparents. It's actually despicable! They have no qualms about being a burden. They KNOW they are a burden but they feel entitled to our time and resources which are scarce. Oh and they love to judge us on our scarce resources. Like we aren't doing life up to their high standards. They have no concept of reciprocity and feel like they are just owed filial piety even though they basically neglected us growing up.

From what I've been able to gather, the purpose of this thread is for people to complain (often incoherently) about their jobs in the service industry and their interactions with older people. I don't think these folks realize the real damage is taken on by the Gen-X and Millenial children of boomers.

If they think their jobs are bad, just imagine what we're going through.

We do occasionally do stuff in restaurants. Not that often, but we do remodels for them. And the amount of boomers who get pissed off at us 'cause we're redoing restaurants interior? Astounding. Last time I was out to eat with a client, the entire restaurant was just old fuck ogling The young waitresses ass.
And you know, you know why boomers promote feminism and attack young men? They generally just want to fuck all of the young interns and women they promote. They'll all basically complete degenerates who are swingers and. Every other degenerate thing you can think of. The worst of boomer fags boomer fags will literally be sexual predators Towards young men.
An amount of creepy comments I've gotten from fags I was building decks for. Is astounding. If I wasn't in good shape, I guarantee one of them would have tried to rape me.

Boomers are letting their summer homes fall in the ocean for free money. They only get a payout if it falls in the ocean and are incentivized to build on the ocean as a result.
This is on the Outer Banks, which is a barrier island that is "temporary" from a geological point of view. Basically a pile of sand that appears/moves/disappears based on ocean conditions. Hence the coastline is always shifting. Early settlers centuries ago knew this, and didn't build permanent structures on/near the shore.

Boomers with no conception of a past or future outside themselves started building vacation homes there in the 70s and it all snowballed from there. Insurance companies have to insure the houses because they were already built decades ago, but it is quite likely they are far more stringent about new houses. You would think given how many boomers are religious or pretend to be, they would at least recall a famous Christian parable about not building on sand.......
