Hell, imagine for a second that California left the US without fighting somehow.

They'd have no foreign trade because no one would want to trade with America's disowned tard baby.

No allies for the same reason.

Have to start an army from the ground up.

Might get attacked by some other country immediately for the above reasons.

Yeah, California will be fiiiiiiiinnnnnnne.

For the time being I'm stuck in this state and the absolute funniest thing the feds could do is let us secede and just watch. We have been under a debt crisis for decades, our population has never seen a tax hike or spending project they DIDN'T like (and keep using the proposition system to create more of them), and we are utterly dependent on the rest of the country for power and water.

I guarantee within a year or two we would fritter away whatever surplus we gained from no longer having to pay the US Government on feelgood legislation and handouts to minority groups and when we came crawling back to the Union they would probably split us up into 2 or 3 new states upon re-annexation.

The more I think about it, the more I want them to secede. We could even have an entire Republic of California subforum. It'd literally be the nation version of an lol cow.

Their argument about food doesn't make sense. Okay for anything fruit-related, but isn't the rest of the US way ahead of them when it comes to veggies, grains and meat ?
California is a Top 15 producer in just about everything besides corn and wheat, but they're by no means anywhere close to being water-independent. A literal asston of it comes from the Colorado River and Lake Mead and alot of their water sourced from in-state is federally controlled.

California aggressively seceding would basically doom their agriculture industries to die of thirst.

And the price of grain and wheat would rise as a result.

California seceding is a bad idea for everyone involved.

The price of importing water alone would outstrip any gains made by technology or agricultural exports. Their trade deficit would be huge. Taxes would be high on all goods just to keep from sinking (further), which is going to be continually undermined when people attempt to go to Arizona, Nevada, or Oregon, and smuggle goods back to California. They'll be no California border agents so the problem will continue unchecked. Finally, with their economy in ruins, California is allowed back into the union but divided up so that they'll never be a major political force again.

agricultural exports

lol unless you're all growing fresh bisongrass and lavender in your apartment window planters you ain't exporting shit. the entire californian countryside is red af and there's no way they're gonna go along with a bunch of liberal cityslickers treason because they're mad about losing the election to the guy they all voted for

Oh look how cute, they think that moving out of the USA is going to work, like an angry son who is just salty with their parents because they don't let him go to the prom. Californians just ask the south what happened when they tried to separate from the Union, I'm pretty sure that they enjoy their confederate paradise.

the people pushing for this pile of retardation don't know that and they don't care
if they get their way, they'll just fuck off after cali has been fucked over then blame trump for california's death
fuck these whiny people.
if this does go through, i hope at least the less dumb of us will just secede from cali and go back to being part of the US

Its not going to secede. Even if any given state had shitloads of guns to form an armed insurrection it wouldn't work.

Give it a week

Not gonna lie, the idea of a right-leaning State of Jefferson with double-digit electoral votes gets me pretty excited.

Has nobody told them they used to make fun of Texas for threatening to secede all the time? I mean I grew up in Texas and in our own history class, you read the textbooks and it talks about how strong and tough Texas was for seceding, but there's this undercurrent of "Actually it really sucked and we're kinda glad to be back". Also they're talking about how "they" produce food, except all the farmers tend to be republicans and likely voted Trump so....

But overall, I'm just bitter because I think #Texit would be better. Next time Texas threatens to secede, that should be the slogan.
This. People have embarrassingly short memories when it comes to politics.

The Calexit movement is a movement by Californians to secede from the United States and form its own country in response to Donald Trumps election. Never mind that they have no water and over 400 billion dollars worth of debt. But they have agriculture!
Will update with more twitter salt.
This tweet set off a lot of salt.

I know there's a lot of stupid here, but these idiots really think they can starve the U.S. into giving them water? You can live a lot longer without food than you can without water.

If they secede, they're not going to have any water, which will leave them awful parched considering all the salt!
