Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

I'm liking it. Getting better on Free for all. O actually am winning free for all more now. If you are top 3 in Free for all, you are a winner in that match. I think it plays alot like COD 2019.

I get a feeling the 70 buck DLC package they are coming out with next year because there is no new COD next year will just be a bunch of COD 2019 maps redone. They already got shoothouse out.

I also think there is some fuckery with the spawning
Played a match tonight where I respawned a short ways away from another player. Player shot and killed Me. Respawned in the exact same spot. Same player killed me again. Player wasn't camping. I just respawned so quick.

I'm hearing good things about MWII, but I have hesitation because of its $70 price tag, bloated size, clumsy UI, skill based matchmaking and console parity/performance.

If you're unsure, Warzone 2 and DMZ are free to play, so you could try those to see if the issues bug you enough to not want to spend the money

I'm having fun with it, but I had more fun with Cold War TBQH

I haven had a crash in over a week now. It is certainly playable, but there are a ton of little bugs that make it cost 70 dollars across all platforms insulting, especially when you consider they had 3000 people working on it or whatever.

Unless you *really* like Call of Duty and are invested in leveling everything up as early as possible or have some friends that really want you to play it, I'd hold off. And even then you could probably still do that/play with them on Warzone/DMZ I'm guessing. (although DMZ is also a beta and kind of a cluster fuck)

If you download Warzone 2.0, are you downloading MWII as well? Battle royale is not my cup of tea, skill notwithstanding.

  • Why's Shephard's mustache gone? At least make him look somewhat like the same guy, come on.
You have to be clean shaven while you’re in the pentagon, so in that context it makes sense. I will agree with you though that he looks awful without his mustache, and missing the beret too.

Shepard is using the face of the actor voicing him. It's the Secret Service guy from 24. I think he plays a lot of high rank military guys these days.

I think I had a bug tonight. I have a couple custom load outs. One is assault rifle, one is shotgun. Started a match, chose assault rifle load out. Couldn't hit, seemed to handle bad. I couldn't figure it out.

Then in like my 5th match, I noticed the weapon icon on screen was my shotgun. But I was holding the assault rifle and that load out was the one I picked.

New glitch? Did game think I had Shotgun because of icon?

Kind’ve same thing with me. I have a shotgun equipped and it works perfectly fine, but the icon is an assault rifle.

That happens to me a lot, including when you switch from single to full auto, the icon rarely changes. Just another example of how they shipped an unfinished game.

16 hours into Cold War's multiplayer, I have to say it's incredibly addictive and more accessible than 2019's Modern Warfare. It actually reminds me of a refined Black Ops in gameplay, aesthetics, and flow.

Cold War's TTK is consistent with CoD's twitch shooter formula. Assault rifles can hold their own, while SMGs are preferred for up close engagements. It's still MW2019, but with much needed QoL changes. Eliminations (assisted kills) count towards your K/D ratio. All score streaks are accumulative and don't reset upon death. Spawning is more fair, aside from Hardcore.

You're always rewarded and encouraged for experimenting with class setups through daily challenges and constant unlocks. SBMM appears to be nerfed with Cold War. I had more matches where I dominated and held my own from complete massacres. There's still bullshit with hit detection and Hardcore spawn killing but nothing that feels artificial.

Overall, best $20 I've spent. It harkens back to CoD from the 360 days.

Cold War had a rough launch, but for the complete shit show that was it's development it doesn't get enough credit for how great it was overall.

I still think a proper Year 2 of Cold War should have been done instead of Vanguard.

So I was considering buying this, what's the kf consensus is it worth it or not? It should be noted that I loved mw2019 and that I'm the type of player to sweat and abuse movement and all that stuff.

I think it's worth it - I'm not the biggest gaymer but enjoyed MW2019 a lot and was hyped for MW2, and it's met my expectations. I didn't like Cold War and didn't buy Vanguard due to my disappointment in Cold War, so this is coming from someone who only recently started playing again. There's definitely bugs, but the game itself just feels like a decent CoD. Lots of aggressive players but you'll get the occasional lobby where you do fantastic and it boosts your motivation to keep playing, makes up for the games where you're bottom of the board. I feel like the weapons are fairly balanced, players actually playing different types of guns and not all running assault rifles, shotguns are a pain, snipers are a major pain, and you get rewards and unlock things often enough to feel good. I don't really like the maps too much, I wish there were a couple that are a little bigger, but they're alright. The operator skins look pretty bland in my opinion, but it's not a huge deal when the gameplay is addicting. I've been playing with friends just about every night and having a lot of fun, but it's nice on your own, too. I don't abuse movement, but have played against lots of people going crazy with it and it looks like they're having fun.

It's definitely better on Ps5 than Ps4 if you're a PlayStation player.

There's still UI menu bugs. The after action reports for rewards freeze for a couple seconds. Characters will disappear on the lobby screen. I even had a cutscene stutter.

Still, it's a fun experience when it works.

I ended up downloading Warzone II per the recommendation of a poster a couple pages back. But to be honest, I didn't like it at all, I feel like the new gulag, performance on PC and the camo/attachments system are really good but the game just feels really clunky, especially after playing MW19, Apex and Vampire Bloodhunt for so long.
Movement tech is almost non existent considering only dropshots and corner jumping are viable strategies and sliding was nerfed to the ground, this paired with low TTK, and you've got yourself a hold-an-angle-and-hard-scope meta. This leads to boring and unexciting combat that reminds me of old X360 games, that paired with the ridiculous aim-assist, just doesn't feel good.
Then again, I probably am just hugely biased towards game design that I prefer and for casual players the changes are likely for the best.

Enjoying DMZ quite a lot with mates, the AI can be super cunty and it's fucking annoying getting stealth murdered by a squad right at exfil, but with a bit more balance and a few more missions/lore based content I'll be made up.

I thought the campaign was interesting, Alone was a bit different, I think the car chase bit was the only part that was annoying.

MP is pretty good too, looking forward to more classic maps.

All in all, a good entry with some teething issues. The UI is really shit.

I do enjoy reading people seethe about SBMM, so deliciously salty.
