Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

You could've told me that United Offensive was a Battlefield game and I'd believe it.

Still more entertaining than Vanguard. Yes, I did in fact buy Vanguard recently; it was honestly even worse than I had expected. How the hell you manage to make running around swinging a katana boring and clunky, especially compared to BO3/IW/BO4, is insane.
Why on earth would you financially support that piece of shit? Even Zombies wasn't fun in that one, in fact it almost killed the community entirely with how bad it was, not even mentioning how awful Warzone and Multiplayer and especially Single Player were.

Not helped with the newer games conditioning everyone to be jumping around corners and being as tryhard as possible. At the risk of sounding autistic, it feels like the newer CoDs have retroactively screwed over the older ones.

Damn, seriously? Ah well; thanks for letting me know anyways. I admit, I'm not the most interested in the Zombies mode - not that I hate it, just that I feel a bit burnt out on it after binge-playing the modes in previous CoDs. So, I think I might just test out the base game one last time, see if it's worth keeping or not.

I do got to ask, though; which of the older CoD games are really active these days? From what I've found, Ghosts and Infinite Warfare are mostly dead, BO3 and 4 still have a decent chunk of players, MWR is crammed full of sweats, MW2019 and Vanguard are still disgustingly active... anyone have any ideas for any other CoD games?
CoD4 on PC with cod4x client. There are servers with sniper sweats but some can be quite good.

To be completely honest, it was partially because it was one of the only CoDs I hadn't played as of yet; we've talked plenty about how bad the game was, but I hadn't really dug into the game myself, so I snagged a copy.

And boy o' fucking boy, the game was somehow even worse than what this thread had made it out to be.

Didn't touch the campaign; I was well-enough aware of the flaws, and I'd seen the videos on JewTube on just how bad it was already. Same with the Zombies mode; I'd seen the gameplay of it more than enough to know that it was, by far, the worst in the series - even MW3 honestly looked more entertaining. However, I hadn't seen much conversation over the Multiplayer; I really hadn't watched any videos over Vanguard's MP gameplay aside from some meme builds, and they didn't really say much. Aside from the ridiculously horrific customization and some rather questionable cosmetic choices - Raul Menedez and the Terminator, anyone? - the actual gameplay was something that I wanted to get a feel for myself.

And after giving the Multiplayer several matches, I can safely say that the gameplay is genuine shit. The game honestly just feels very off, if that makes sense; the controls just feel a bit too loose for even a casual to enjoy, and it got to the point where I was fighting the gameplay as much as I was other players. The guns in particular didn't feel all that satisfying to use, and the crap gameplay meant that my only real option to get kills was using either the semi-auto shotgun or that laser gun they added in the final season. Melee was extremely bad; I've ran melee only as far back as World at War, and Vanguard genuinely somehow managed to feel worse with how inconsistent it was. Also, the character models were mostly pretty bad; there were a few characters that didn't look complete ass, but the majority - mostly the women - all looked like monkeys in wigs with how fucked the facial modeling was. Probably why most of the players I ran with were using characters with masks, frankly...

Also not helping that everyone was using the same skins; got killed more than a few times because I couldn't tell if I was looking at a friendly or not. I mean, BO3, IW, and BO4 managed to make the distinction between teams clear enough using lights, but when everyone is the same black guy/woman/heavily armored guy and you can't tell who the hell you're firing at, it gets frustrating. Granted, that's just me sperging, frankly...

There's probably more shit that I'm forgetting - I remember there being a few old posts about Vanguard's multiplayer apparently being "red team/blue team training exercises", which is supposed to justify the Multiplayer's lack of factions - but I'm not talking more about this right now. Maybe later, but...

My favorite ownage gun was the M1 Garand + Bayonet. POP. POP. *stab* POP. POP. *stab* (fuck Treyarch for making every gun piss-weak without SP). Something I miss about the era of gunsmith is that there aren't really any "bad" guns. Sure, there are guns with a slightly better meta, but every gun can be made a low-recoil laser with the right build. By contrast, there were builds in COD4 and WaW that, when you saw it in the killcam, you knew some guy was just shitting on you. Like when a dude rocking a mini-uzi without Stopping Power was running the table in COD4.

Call of Duty gets Art the clown before dead by the daylight and Mortal Kombat confirms the creator of Art implying DBD devs hate Art the clown for being a misogynistic for killing women.

The Activisions COD season pass and ingame virtual currencies is coming to an end.

European Consumer Organization alleges game companies including Activision, Electronic Arts, Epic, and Ubisoft are 'tricking' consumers with premium in-game currencies
The European Consumer Organization, along with 22 member organizations from 17 countries, has filed a complaint with the authorities who enforce EU consumer protection laws accusing Activision Blizzard, EA, Epic Games, Ubisoft, and other major game companies of "purposefully tricking consumers" with in-game currencies that are "used to confuse and disconnect consumers from the real value of their in-game spending."

it would be better if players earned the shit in these battle passes for free by just playing the game.

One of the reasons I quit COD is I realized I was playing it to keep up with the battle passes...which were full of shit I never used anyway. I just had FOMO/sunk cost. "Oh no, what if I never unlock that weapon key fob?!?" I would rather have it be like the Helldivers missions or whatever they're called. MW2's battle pass UI was also incomprehensible to me, and as far as I could tell, you couldn't earn weapons blueprints for free any more.

I love revisiting old CoDs to see the last time I've played.

CoD: WWII. Last met 294 days ago. Damn. Five headshots, 35 SMG kills, 50 calavery assists and a completed challenge for rifle kills.

Funnily enough, one of the two gun classes I were never comfortable with was the semi-auto rifles, the other being pistols; I fell in love with everything else. Got to the point where I was constantly swapping guns between matches, felt comfortable with everything, and I just couldn't decide what to stick with.

Son, you're directly funding the creation of these games. If literally everybody is shitting on the game, just take their word for it and move on. There is nothing of interest in Vanguard, not even for a curious fan.

Yeah, I traded the game in earlier; definitely one of the shittier purchases I made. Got a full refund, grabbed AW with the money; so far, it's been a much better experience.

Actually, speaking of AW; I'm trying to unlock the Zombie gear you can get from Exo Survival, the gloves, skin, helmet, etc. I know you can get the Zombie skin after beating Riot, but what about the rest of the gear? Is that just something you unlock by going through the tiers, or do you need to complete specific challenges or something? I remember grabbing it all back on PS3, but I can't remember how to grab it now.

I will say MW2019 Battle Passes were way better than the ones that came later, you actually had good blueprints, bundle tier skins, and just overall had higher quality. All MW2019 blueprints that had red dot sights also had special iron/new iron sights if you removed them. I will always simp for MW2019 that game was too good for the average COD fan and they knew it. A Fraction of the work/care is placed into the games now compared to 2019.

If I remember correctly, you have to just play survival and you will unlock everything eventually. If it's not there by the end of Riot, make sure to grind some more and make sure it's in an online mode, not an offline private lobby.
Speaking of which, I am very disappointed we never got all the DLC maps as proper survival maps, just the first DLC. Hell, we never even got Atlas Gorge, despite that being a pre order map. Just imagine the possibilities, MW3 sure gave us all the maps.
Speaking of which, does MW2019 actually let you play Survival on all the maps or only a handful?

I like how AW made you buy extra slots or you couldn't collect all the gear. Assholes.

For some reason, I could never get kills with the M1 Garand in WaW. I could aim at them with no hitmarker.

The sights were a bit weird, but once you figured it out, the key was DON'T spam it. And once you figured that out...it still sucked. It was just a bad gun. There was no real reason to choose it over the SVT-40 or Gewehr 43, which had low enough recoil to be spammable. But that's why it was my favorite, because I was good enough at WaW that I'd still shit all over the average MP40 player. Then SBMM and balanced weapons happened.
