Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

Black Ops III sucked too, and it was made worse by kicking you out of a mission if you "lose connection" to the servers. I had somewhat spotty internet back when I played it, so I kept losing progress because it didn't save checkpoints when that happened. I came back a few years later (when I had better internet) to finish it off, and it was an unfulfilling experience made no better with that god awful story.
I hated BO3. It was "made" with coop in mind. It's a slug to play by yourself. I gave up because of that bullshit story. And the disconnection issues that would have me lose progress.

Tell me something, how on Earth does BO3 relate to the Black Ops universe? Killer robots, mind control, train go boom.

Two things, a reference to Raul Menendez and Nova 6 being the CIA bioweapon that crippled Singapore.

That's it, two things that felt tacked on at the last minute, as if the devs thought "Oh shit, this is a Black Ops game!".

I was under the impression Treyarch wanted to do something new and was forced into making it "Black Ops" during development.

Which seems to be a running theme with the series.
That explains why Black Ops IV had no campaign. Probably for the best after BO3. It COULD work well with CoD if Activision wasn't so greedy.

I noticed that after Black Ops 2, CoD campaigns were a slug to go through. I will admit, Ghosts was okay. (I remember rumors around that time that a Simon "Ghost" Riley prequel to MW2 was in development.) But Advanced Warfare, Black Ops 3 and Infinite Warfare had bad stories and gameplay.

I know for a fact Black Ops 4 had a campaign early on in development, you can find Alpha footage of it IIRC.

The official story is that it was "too ambitious" I believe, but pretty much everyone agrees that it was only too ambitious because they needed a shitty battle royale tacked on to jump on the trend.

I believe it worked out well in it's favor.

Saw the newest cinematic

I'm confused. Are they just trying to do the plan from Black Ops 1? What was the point of Stitches test subjects in verdansk then? They still letting sleeper agents slip through after Mason? Why wouldn't they have turned Woods when he was a POW?

I don't understand using forced cinematics to push lore. Especially for Warzone.

Yeah, this is getting dumb. Was this whole special ops group supposed to be sleeper agents for the past 20 years, or do "numbers" work like nanomachines now and just let you mind control everyone who doesn't have plot armor? Getting some MGS4 vibes with that "bang bang" too.

I'm assuming this goggles guy (Hudson?) is their next pay skin? Pretty lame, all things considered. I don't buy them but 24 bucks for a mil sim should make some of these consumers pissed.

We got more leakers saying that Cold War is going to get a Year 2. Highly dubious of it because lol Cod Youtube Leakers, but if it did end up being true I don't know what that says for CoD '21 since Cold War was and still is buggy as fuck.

I'd assume they need to keep a narrative going to get kids interested in buying new skins. How else do they further a narrative in a multiplayer only experience then forced cinematics?

It won't be cold war year two so much as Warzone year 3

If next COD is WWII again I'd assume Activision is scared that a BR in it won't sell. Or that the kind of skins that sell would be too jarring in it.

I've also heard the claim that MTX from Cold War sold more than MW. If thats true they might have found the over the top nature of current Black Ops works best at selling shit to fortnite kiddies

If they do another BR, it will cannibalize Warzone.

I don't understand the mentality of supporting Warzone long term while leaving behind the game that built on its foundation. The pandemic and success of Modern Warfare should've proved Activision that Call of Duty doesn't have to be an annual franchise. Hell, Cold War could've coexisted with Modern Warfare without the need for Warzone.

I'm sure many people would not had mind Cold War being delayed into next year. Just play Modern Warfare or even subside with MW2 Remastered. If the rumors are true that Sledgehammer is struggling with the next Call of Duty, that may hurt Call of Duty as a reliable franchise. I know it's to please investors, but the investors don't "support" the game, the players do.

Only played COD from COD4 onwards.

Finished COD4, WAW, MW2, Blops on veteran. I don't think I replayed a single a COD game after that. Didn't even finish some of them. It was just, eh. The games were just for the MP.

I recall one hard mission in Black Ops where you're in a long corridor and enemies are coming out of each room and across you. The only way to stop them from spawning indefinitely is to move up. There's isn't much cover, especially with grenade mayhem.

That mission reminds me of one setpiece in COD4 where you are down a similar corridor but that time you're timed to defuse a launching missile. That was slighter easier with the amount of space you have, but the timer negates that.

Have you beaten any CoD on Veteran? How was it?
I did Black Ops 2, Ghosts and Advanced Warfare on veteran. I tried to do BO3 in veteran but it wasn't fun since it was made for co-op and it was already a chore on normal mode.

Looks like the frustration with cheaters is finally boiling over. He calls this guy a coward multiple times, which for someone like JGod is a bit spicy.

He's right, I pretty much just stick to Rebirth now because Verdansk is a complete waste of time.

I haven't played Warzone since the Hunt for Adler event because it was still buggy as fuck and had way too many hackers and cheaters. I can't believe people put up with that shit.

Rebirth Island, the mini BR, is actually fun and not yet plagued by cheaters.

As he said in the video, not much choice right now if you want this kind of BR. Until Battlefield launches theirs in March, this, unfortunately, is what people are stuck with.
