Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

I thought Zombies lore was complicated. Warzone takes it to another level.

Maybe I miss a lot because I rarely play actual Warzone and just get everything from intel/season cutscenes.

But as far as I can see, it's not so much complicated just stupid as hell.

I might be missing something too. I mean, Stitch seems upset that Adler planted bombs in Verdansk, but then Adler makes it seem like he didn't know what he was doing, but then Stitch was the one who brainwashed him so.

Also Mason being the guy they need to "fix" Adler makes no fucking sense either.

Yeah, it's just stupid I'm pretty sure.

It's like they're trying to do their own MCU with Call of Duty. The execution falters because, 1) not everybody plays or likes battle royale, 2) Warzone is intrusive, 3) it leaves room for error to recton campaign in favor of Warzone.

It's actually ridiculous how off the rails a simple "chasing Perseus" story has gotten for a storyline that is told exclusively through twelve 2 minute cutscenes.

Recap

Season 1 - Stitch uses Nova 6 to lure out Adler and capture him.
Season 2 - Stitch brainwashes Adler while Woods and Co track Nova 6 to Laos.
Season 3 - Stitch steals Numbers Program reels from Yamantau, nukes it thinking the US will be blamed. Woods rescues Adler.
Season 4 - Stitch crashes satellites. Adler steals something from satellite.
Season 5 - Stitch broadcasts numbers, Mason is brought in to get Adler.
Season 6 - Adler has apparently destroyed Verdansk, Stitch is upset. Mason, Woods, Adler and Hudson need to "finish what Adler started"?

What was the point of brainwashing Adler? Just to get that thing from the Satellite? What was the point of bringing down the Satellite? It doesn't seem like it had anything to do with the numbers? What was the point of nuking Yamantau when there was no repercussions to the US? What was the point of broadcasting the numbers? All it seems to have done was stop Woods from capturing Fox for broadcasting the numbers and apparently made Adler set up seismic charges to destroy Verdansk which Stitch apparently didn't want?

Why is Mason not effected by the Numbers broadcast? Why was everyone in Woods squad effected from it? Why is Mason the guy who can "fix" Adler?

I get it's Call of Duty, but holy shit I don't remember Black Ops 1 or 2 being this sloppy. Modern Warfares seasons certainly didn't seem this sloppy. And honestly the whole thing really only falls apart with Season 6 because none of these threads seem to have gone anywhere logically. Almost as if something was completely scrapped and changed at the last minute?

I'm kind of wondering if they are going to completely rip of Black Ops 1 now, and have it so that someone highjacked Adlers programming to destroy Verdansk similar to Reznov of Mason. And I'm wondering if it's going to be some last minute character from Vanguard in order to shoehorn a connection to the game. Or is it just going to turn out to be "Perseus" who has been completely MIA since the ending of the campaign?

Probably something even dumber and ass pulled than that. I know I'm being slightly autistic about some stupid multiplayer story, but it leads me to wonder why even have it? Why not just go back to the days of multiplayer just being multiplayer if this is going to be what we get?

Is it weird that the thing I'm most interested in is the "deprogrammed" map?

I thought leakers said we were supposed to get attack dog scorestreak? They really kept dropping the ball with Cold War, huh?

Anyone else find it kind of stupid they added Ghostface into Cold War? Scream was from the 90's, not the 80's...

Considering the other shit in the game, why does this stand out as odd to you?

Because Scream is a 90's slasher film. At least Rambo and John McClane were in 80's movies.

It isn't like there aren't a million 80's slasher dudes to pick from. I'm guessing Scream was just the cheapest to license out.

Or is this about guns being anachronistic?

Have you seen the anime skins? None of them even try to use the anime style that existed in the 80s

I think I like this matchmaking menu the most out of them all so far. I'm a sucker for this deprogramming, brainwash dream world shit.

A few things
The reason why scream was chosen is due to there being a new scream film being released in January, so marketing
Secondly, the big name horror IPs (Jason, Freddy, Chucky, Candyman? to an extent) either are in legal hell or wouldn't really work in terms of cod (Chucky for being small and people would complain if it was a big suit or charles before transferring his body, Candyman cause, themeing lol)

I'm still really confused as to why they chose Donnie Darko over Ash Williams for the second IP? (Could be due to the new ED game coming out soonish) but it was probably easier to rent out some shitty emo film then having to deal with the legal nightmare that is the ED series and then having to either scrap together lines from ED2/AOD that would work for lines or hire Bruce Campbell again.

As if to spit in my face one last time, I can no longer play zombies. Everytime I select something, I'm told I need to download additional DLC to have access, but I'm never prompted to download that now nor can I download anything more from file management. Sure, I wanted to try the new map, but fuck me I guess.

It looks bland while also looking overproduced and it's a Sledgehammer game on top of it. It feels like the only thing it has going for it is being on the new MW engine.

I'm skipping it. But I guess MW fans might be really excited for it.

The British samey annoucner in Vanguard is annoying. World at War went the extra mile with team variation in context with the WW2 setting and that was 14 years ago.

Give me different factions. In WAW the german victory was incredible.

Personally, I'm a fan of the Imperial Japan and Russian factions from World at War. The attention to detail with the announcers, maps and models made them menacing to witness.

Now that I think of it, their German symbolism for the Wehrmacht is actually historically accurate without using a basic Iron Cross.
