The long and short I hear about MWIII's campaign is its unoriginality with its storytelling and mission setpieces. I likely don't even need to play the game to understand those valid criticisms.
What made the original MW trilogy beloved to fans is their action setpieces, excellent characters and memorable level designs. CoD4 had the iconic "All Ghilled Up" where you're sneaking around an enemy occupied Ukraine in a ghillie suit followed by the infamous nuke scene in the American campaign. MW2 upped the ante with Makarov's "No Russian" airport level and America's back against the wall levels where Russians invade Virginia and DC. MW3's levels would send you all over the world where Makarov's ultranationalist faction destroys half the world for Russian supremacy into World War 3.
All those missions served purpose for character development and establishing the plot and stakes for the player. The rebooted trilogy does NONE OF THAT. I could only name a handful of standout moments with the whole rebooted trilogy if I tried hard enough. It wants to be a movie, yet forgets it's an action video game.
