Camo / Camouflage

Groups like the CIA and MARSOC wear M81, I guarantee if you live somewhere green enough some local sheriff's office SWAT guys are still rocking it. Makes a lot more sense somewhere like East Tx or Louisiana than Multicam IMO.

OD/Ranger Green is used by groups like HRT, the entirely of CBP and literally ever other sheriff's office in the US.

Literally half the countries in the world at this point (including opposing forces like Ukraine/Russia where they have to use brightly colored tape to differentiate) are using Multicam and its variants like whatever the Brits call theirs. At this point I don't see how anyone can declare it "fed camo" and therefore useless.

I buy multicam gear because everything I want is available in it and it works quite well for my area. I'm a sucker for stuff like Desert Tiger Stripe and Flecktarn but consider it basically fashion statement tier when I chose to buy it for gear I'm not serious about.

I don't know how serious people really are when they call it fed camo and therefore should be avoided. At least in my case, it's a joke.

Ultimately, if there was ever some sort of scenario where things devolve in America to the point of everyone shooting at each other, civilian groups will need to resort to the kind of stuff the Ukrainians and Russians are doing with the colored tape and whatnot, because everyone's going to have a hodgepodge of gear in wildly varying colors and camo patterns.

Can't believe the only proper camouflage guide wasn't posted yet.

>UCP dyed green
>lived to the end

I'd like to get some cheap UCP stuff and try dying it to ranger green or even OD green level. I've procrastinating about it because most of the UCP dyed green I've seen ends up looking very bright and saturated. I'm sure there's a way to achieve the right brightness and saturation I want, I just haven't looked into it much.

Camo is great for LOS detection from the naked eye, however taking into consideration that even a basic retard can afford and pilot a drone with a 1080p camera and thermal/nightvision systems are becoming more mainstream and affordable, there are other considerations to make. Some of your best "camo" will be cover and concealment and planned movement over already realized avenues of egress/approach.
yeah it's almost like the 7 S's are an afterthought sometimes

accurate.

I may have mentioned before that we're in the "Wacky Races" part of the thermal/anti-thermal arms race right now, and here's a good example of that. This Russian YouTuber is testing several thermal camo suits of local make.

THIS
Garand Thumb said it, and I happen to agree. "If you don't have thermals, you are going to get killed by someone who has." So it stands to reason to start looking into ways to minimize your thermal signature with thermal cloaks. If a tech-bitcoin-suspiciouslywealthyfurry-troon is going to assault you, he might spend 3-5-10k in thermals and I've seen a Ukrainian soldier say they turn you into a "god of war". Especially if they are high-quality. I imagine he's exagerating a bit, but a 10k thermal optic is a game-changing capability. If you are going to splurge on gucci gear, this is the place.

As for camo, as much as it is interesting to look at patterns, the good ol' OD got it right a long time ago, and khaki for arid. Like WW2. It really doesn't make a world of difference imo. Fieldcraft, and not being a retard by having an unpainted gun and exposed skin are much bigger offenders than the specific patterns imo.

Digging is the right answer. And stay off paved roads when moving, they get hotter than the surrounding ground.
If we're talking route planning, you should avoid even moving parallel to roads or trails, and if you don't have overhead cover you're wrong. Camouflage doesn't matter if you're moving like an idiot (usually too fast) and making more noise then necessary. A guy in a red t-shirt and jeans who moves slowly, uses tree stacking, who isn't afraid to get low, and uses his eyes has more chance of staying undetected then a guy in full ghillie just hiking through the woods.

Oh I can also recommend Uniform History on YouTube. They do a great interesting break down of all camo patterns with some history too. (Watching their latest on US MARPAT variants)

An update on this: I recently purchased a MOLLE II assault pack, army IFAK pouches and entrenching tool pouches from a small surplus retailer who offers dye jobs in various colors. I got this stuff dyed a green that's fairly close to ranger green. The UCP pattern still shows through the dye job, and it's so much more pleasant than straight UCP. Super convenient to get cheap surplus in a nicer color.

I found a pattern I like but it's difficult to actually find on products :(
Unless it's for fun only you don't buy patterns you like. You buy what the area you plan to be in calls for or what the mission dictates.

You don't walk around in real tree camo in the desert. OCP/Multicam works in about 25% of places on earth. DCU for the deserts and over whites for the snow. That'll cover almost anywhere in general. There's better camos for specific areas of course.

Then there's the not camo. Uniforms meant to be identifiers. These can be camo but only from people. An example would be dressing up as a utility department worker to gain access behind a gate or dressing up as a sheriff's deputy to get blow jobs at the trailer park.

The last thing of note is camo is about being seen and not noticed. It doesn't make you invisible.

i wanted to point out how wrong this map is. where i live, the wooded areas here in the winter tends to be brown and grey, but this map suggest a lot of green for my area. wearing camo suggested here would stand out . it's funny just how often /k/ gets things wrong.
