Capcom's War Against Modding - Games older than ten years shall not be spared from Capcom's DRM against modding because some coomer couldn't keep his nude mods from spilling out of his pants at a tourney.

I never really liked the idea that Ryu had this evil power inside him that he was constantly fighting to control, either.

Basically, the SF canon should have ended with the anime movie.

I've been told that SF6 literally treats the heroes like a superhero team, which is just all sorts of weird.
It should have ended around Third Strike the latest, and then focus on making Alex a popular character in his own games. SF3 was supposed to pass the torch to Alex and his crew, but nobody really liked the cast so they added Ken and Ryu just to push SF3 (and finally Chun-Li). Street Fighter will always be known for Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li because Ryu and Chun-Li are Crapcom's fighting game poster characters. Crapcom usually struggles with building characters in certain series, and it's been like this since the mid-90s or early 00s. They didn't learn their lessons from SF3 because once again every new character in SF6 is unlikable. Luke is still hated because of Duty Fighter V, and he's still an obnoxious cunt storywise.

What's funny is during SF3's life time Crapcom got people to like the original roster by tuning them up (Dudley's TS voice). Out of Juri and Viper (who is almost forgettable now), they haven't made a new character that's genuinely likable (e.g. Not a memefag like the Old Cop in Duty Fighter V's story or Simp bait like Menat), and they never bothered to upgrade or touch up their other characters to get more people to use them. To add insult to injury, they actually ruined popular characters from other games like Elena, Dudley, and Poison because of their usual antics (woke shit, being in bad games like SFxT and Ultra SF4, being trash tier or too OP, fugly models) and Ono being a piece of shit that ruined Street Fighter.

This era has sadly been a thing for awhile.
Aye I know it's not a new thing by any stretch of the imagination I guess I'm just sick of them not even trying to change things up. I understand they still make cash hand over fist because some cunts will buy literally any old shit if it has the right name on the box. There are still some people who make indie games yet even though a bunch of them end up making a shit ton of cash from it you never have any of the bigger boys put a few resources to the side so they could do something similar. A lot of these indie games are made by people who used pennies in comparison to whatever is being sunk into the next Call of Duty. That game everyone is banging on about currently called Lethal Company is a great example of this. It's not like it did anything no other game has ever done but it is something these big lads won't even try anymore. Last I heard it had made an estimated $60 Million and that was made by a single fucking furry, probably coded in his spunk covered fur-suit.

You're not the only one who misses Sierra, they were involved in quite a few of my favourite games and I was sad to see them go. You expect decent companies to disappear these days because any that are even remotely successful end up being bought and absorbed by one of the big companies and it's all so they can have one less competitor. Pretty soon you're only going to have a handful of developers if things keep on down this current track.

Every once in awhile I see people on youtube and elsewhere predicting we're heading for another Game Industry Crash (nevermind that the supposed one that happened in 1983 is kind of an overblown myth, but)....

.... For a long time I've been like "ya know, if it happened tomorrow, I don't think anything of value would be lost." In fact I would almost prefer it. As far as I'm concerned, all the good games have already been made, and the future looks to me like just a bunch of bland retreads of things we've had for years, but that we're buying all over again because..... I dunno.

Then of course there's the industry stupidity. By the time gaming goes cloud-only, as far as I'm concerned gaming is dead.

I have the same mindset myself. I doubt gaming is ever going to truly "die" as it's too big of a business and there will always be people out there buying the product no matter how terrible. I agree with your assessment though, once gaming goes fully subscription that's when the quality of the games will fully crater and gaming will be "spiritually" dead in my eyes. I truly hope I'm wrong but it's hard not to be cynical. As I said earlier in the thread you have various forms of skulduggery that range from Ubisoft telling us we'll own nothing, Rockstar floating the idea of a pay-per-view model and then Capcom pulling this DRM shit all going on in plain sight. If that heinous shit is public it makes you question what horrible stuff they have planned in secret.

feels more like the struggle to make the money they made until now. call me naive, but there will always be people doing games because they want to create. they won't have AAA production values (although AI will do some heavy lifting), but will still be good games.
AAA is after money, and the money is running out, especially coming after the high that corona brought, and those time are not only over, we're running headfirst into an economical crisis, meaning people will have even less money and will to spend it on shitty games.

there will be a massive market correction, because no company can afford it to create products with no market, ESG money or not. so either those companies go back to making games people want, or wither and die - with the way the industry works now, there's even less reason to work for a AAA sweatshop, so they don't have the talent even if they wanted to.

Well like I say I'm of the same opinion in that gaming will never completely die as there is always going to be people who want to create like you say. It means we're going to have a less saturated market when it comes down to it. Granted most of the current crop of games right now is sheer unadulterated garbage so we already have big gaps between actual good games anyway. Most people are spastics though and will not realise this is the case. You then have these people with more money than sense who will buy any old pish if it comes from their favourite corporation.

It really could go either way for gaming at this juncture. I - and most of the cunts I know - simply want to have some decent games, it's not like that's a lot to ask! I'm not expecting perfectly quality time after time merely something that's fun to play with the lads that doesn't have a ton of unneeded and unnecessary bullshit. I've been playing Spiderman 2 recently and despite it being full of forced diversity cock-sucking it's still decent enough gameplay-wise to be an enjoyable experience. It shows how far games have fallen though when I consider that one of the better games I've played in a while. It's proper clown world.

The problem is that creativity is on life support. Most established franchises can't make a new character stick to save their lives unless some kind of niche coom is involved.

Let's face it, we all know why Juri is so popular, and it certainly isn't due to memorable character writing.

With a character like her, they really CAN'T do anything more with her because it was a SF4 specific backstory. Both parents killed by Shadaloo but S.I.N. takes her, fixes her up, and has her working for Seth as an assassin. Only in the end of SF4 she decides to go rouge and wants everyone dead. In SFV she was just "there" and really didn't do much, as the story was more focused on Shadaloo and the usual fighters going out to face them, and since Juri hates BOTH Shadaloo and the "good guys" such as Chun-Li and Cammy, she really didn't have a horse in that race.

Her personality is probably the only good thing going for her as a character as she has a good amount of sass, but without something to do or someone to latch on to with a purpose, it's just a wasted character slot... like a lot of the characters that keep coming back for no fucking reason.

Capcom leaned fully into the foot faggotry so they really can't blame any cunt but themselves for coomers drooling over Juri. Her taunts and intros/outros are about as subtle as a brick through your window. I'm surprised they didn't just have the camera zoom right into her feet every time she so much as moves.

that's why having some elaborate "lore" was always retarded when it comes to fighting games, or at least street fighter. you had your bad guys, then some dudes trying to beat him for a variety of reasons, that was it. all that crappy marvel tier backgrounds and "motive" is pointless and I don't know anyone who really cares about that shit.

It's funny how a game with actual capeshit, MVC3, was less retarded than modern SF

All Japanese need to be kept in a constant state of shame, so that they're constantly trying to redeem their honoru
Agreed. We need to bring back the old ways.

Capcom always turns to shit when people start calling them Capgod again. All Japanese need to be kept in a constant state of shame, so that they're constantly trying to redeem their honoru, Capcom, Sony, Square Enix, etc. We see this pendulum swing everytime. Don't ever let them get comfortable and egotistical.
Nobody actually calls them "Capgods" aside from actual paid shills, and they will continue to do so anyways as long as the paycheck clears

Again, the only way to actually play those games with DRM now is to have a backed up copy and install a crack. Steam downloads updates automatically, so there is no way to play your game now on that service anymore.
Hopefully this will get people to start weaning off these horrid launchers. Them having a monopoly on how PC games are run these days is also another problem that needs to be addressed
