It's not that insane, but it might be retarded based on how low the standards are for youtube.
You can rack up 1k by renting a nice camera and accessories for a week. racking up expenses for such things? ha! no problem. A/V Stuff is expensive.
Paying an editor, paying for graphics. It really isn't that much money. A grand? Nah. For a youtube video? depends.
For Vito? Worth it.

If he's renting a camera and equipment to go the Mike Clum route then perhaps. For a basic video essay though, editing is piss easy and any retard can learn how to do it. Paying for custom graphic assets might run you a few hundred unless you're a complete rube who can be scammed into paying $50 for someone to do basic Photoshopping.

Without PLing, I've done plenty longform video content without having to break $100. Then again, apparently Dark Viper blows $10k a pop for each edited video he puts out so these people are constantly scammed by "editors" who use plugins to do most of the work anyways. It's still insane to me, especially for a guy who you can demonstrate to be a pedophile without any real effort.

Oh for sure. It's all relative and contextual. Dude doesn't have to spend any money if he just puts together a video essay with a script and some visuals. At that point its just time and effort. I personally enjoy doing that kind of work, so I don't feel the need to pay for that kind of stuff. However, if I was doing an actual documentary on Vito, the idea of spending some money to get high quality lenses, recorded in HDR with proper sound mixing is actually really funny to me. The idea of a highly produced video to just expose Vito is worth it, if you're into that idea and have cash to spend.
