Also, it's ironic that of all the movies that Cinemasins did to cause this shitstorm, it was another King Kong remake. Not Citizen Kane. Not Alien or Jaws. Not even Ghostbusters 2016. A King Kong remake.
Yeah, I thought the same thing while reading this thread. I could kind of understand someone getting butthurt over nitpicky, comedy criticism if the movie was their passion project, that they wrote and tried to get made for years and years, pouring their own money and hard work into it etc. But he's just some director the studio picked after others turned it down (according to wikipedia). You made a movie about a big angry monkey that I had already forgotten about until this thread, dude, not some masterpiece above reproach. That guy is probably worth keeping an eye on.

Edit: LOL I just found this tweet by him about fragile egos

Why are these people acting like CinemaSins are well respected movie critics or something? I love how the rest of the insecure morons that blindly worship whoever made the movie they're jerking off to constantly retweet and like every comment related to whining about CinemaSins. They never claimed to be gods that perfectly critique every single movie ever made, they just poke fun at dumb irrelevant shit in movies for 10-20 minutes. What a waste of time and energy arguing over a couple jokes.

Who are all these people defending this guy on twitter anyway? Do they actually give a shit about this director or does twitter just hand out free asspats to anyone who's offended at anything now?

These sorts don't respond well to legitimate criticism, either. Seriously, the notion that pointing out plot holes or narrative inconsistency or telling-not-showing or bad characterization or lazy fucking writing is "anti-art" basically means, "anything 'art' is good and pure, in and of itself, since someone put their artist soul into it, therefore, you should just let it be shit, and give it a medal for it's good intentions." This is why there are 'rules' about how all critiques must start with something nice, point out two strengths and one weakness. Why no one should use RED pens for editing. Why some writers end up without editors at all, especially in a structural sense.

This is how you end up with a culture than cannot tell that Twilight is terrible.

This is total anecdotal evidence but quite a few of the random supporters I clicked on were movie reviewers or youtubers themselves. So a lot of the complaining about CinemaSins just being bitter, failed film makers jealous at the successful movie maker seems to come from bitter, failed youtubers/reviewers jealous at the successful youtubers. I mean, I don't know, it just struck me as a fun observation.

I'm as confused as you are why people seem to be this invested in the King Kong Island movie? I guess it's just good ol' outrage culture at this point.

I'm glad that the Cinema Sins people know how to play the game and just happily make a couple of shitposts and continue with their day

Looks like Forbes actually sided with CinemaSins. Maybe there's still hope.

Their article is a pretty good read:
Forbes said:
'Kong: Skull Island' Director Lashes Out On Twitter
You might be familiar with CinemaSins, the YouTube channel famous for it’s Everything Wrong With … series. The series picks apart recently released films scene-by-scene, often pointing out logic gaps and overused cinema tropes. Like characters discussing the point of their journey upon arrival, or failing to be shot by the antagonist’s minions, even though they were right in front of them.

We all know and expect that films are going to be somewhat illogical, that certain sacrifices have to be made for the sake of smooth storytelling. Snarky videos made by the likes of CinemaSins and Screen Junkies are not reviews, but pieces of entertainment, intended to make you laugh. Nobody takes these videos seriously.

But Jordan Vogt-Roberts certainly does. Vogt-Roberts, the director of Kong: Skull Island, takes them very seriously indeed. Vogt-Roberts took the time to watch CinemaSins Everything Wrong With Skull Island video, and it made him angry.

He quickly took to Twitter and went on a rant, defending his movie against the video’s specific criticisms, one by one. He even compared CinemaSins to Donald Trump, for some reason, and claimed that these videos “think they’re smarter than you.” Read the full rant here, it’s hilarious.

At the end of the rant, Vogt-Roberts appeared to realize that his overly defensive public tirade might have been a little bit embarrassing, and decided to clarify that he wasn’t really bothered by the video at all. “To anyone who thinks this video makes me mad or hurts me. It doesn't. I just wanted to point out a few obvious examples that are just wrong.”

Did you hear that? He’s not mad at all. He just wanted to publicly condemn a satirical YouTube video for criticizing his giant monster masterpiece. That’s all.

What Jordan Vogt-Roberts doesn’t seem to understand is that part of the fun of watching movies, especially with nerdy film friends, is pointing out the inconsistencies within the fictional universe. There’s nothing particularly edgy about these videos; they’re tongue-in-cheek, and unless the film is notoriously bad, are not supposed to be considered genuine criticism.

For what it’s worth, I thought Kong: Skull Islandwas pretty good. I like monster movies, and that film was made for people like me. The human characters weren’t particularly memorable, but King Kong certainly was.

And the film actually sits at 76% on Rotten Tomatoes; not a perfect score, but undoubtedly a good one. Jordan Vogt-Roberts has nothing to get overly defensive about.

I’ve just joined the virtual orgy of playground insults that is Twitter, and sometimes, looking at all these strangers insult each other, I wonder why. But moments like this make me realize that Twitter can be genuinely hilarious; it's not just a platform that makes humanity despise itself. It exposes thin-skinned celebrities, highlighting their insecurities on the widest public platform imaginable.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts, you just gained yourself a new follower.

This is one of the reasons why I'm a fan of theirs. Unlike Doug or Strider, at least Jeremy owns that his nitpicking is all bullshit, the sins have no real value and it's all a big joke.

lol, Jordan went on an even longer rant today, but he's not upset, you are!

>MGS series with their overly long cutscenes
>Movie

Is Konami trying to release another game without Kojima? Could it be MGS V-2: electric bugawhoooooo?

A live action MGS movie could work if it was done in the style of Escape from New York, which MS takes a lot of its inspiration from, and a lot of hammy actors. And if Kojima was involved.... I think he'd be a good movie director but that's just me.

Of course Konami or Kojima for that matter won't get involved, and a mediocre director of a equally medicore movie couldn't do this. To make matters worse and to show how dumb this director is, he's only played MGS5 and looked up videos of the other MGS games on YouTube from what I remember about his AmA on Reddit once.

I cannot imagine the tingling masturbatory satisfaction of thinking literally everyone literally loved your movie. Damon Lindelof must be the happiest man alive.
Given how much of a mess he made of Prometheus, he deserves all the scorn he gets.

Anybody who works with the logic: "These guys who actually really love movies took the piss out of my movie (which they might have loved irl) for YouTube views for their channel which is entirely based on movie piss takes and is respected enough that Neil De Muthafucking Grasse Muthafucking TYSON has guest starred on it multiple times. I'm, so offended that they made a ton of valid and funny points about my movie that I'm totally sure everyone else will be so if I rant on twitter and compare them to Trump NOBODY is going to think I'M the stupid one!" Deserves literally anything they get.

It's impossible that the truth is that the King Kong remake movie is regurgitated popcorn promotion with a sprinkling of explosions.
