Something seems familiar about this...

^ What's there not to understand? They're a short burst of bright colours and stings of music that predictably show up right at the end of their favourite TV programs as kids, so the logos are intertwined with the nostalgia for their childhood golden age when everything was, if not perfect, better than now.

I've always found this somewhat disturbing, dying kitten and all. By their standards, this must be akin to suffering a horrific, life-changing trauma.

EDIT: For extra context, this aired at the end of the final episode of 80s hospital drama, St.Elsewhere, famously known for revealing that its entire storyline, characters and setting took place entirely within the imagination of an autistic child.

Given what we're dealing with here, it seems almost poetically appropriate.

Including the static?
There are actually quite a few videos on YouTube posted by people who record VHS openings/closings (seems to be related to CLG) in which they'll record until the tape automatically rewinds. It's incredibly baffling that those people (considering how a lot of them appear to be Autistic) are able to tolerate it.

The static and junk at the end of a VHS tape usually contains some type of tone or pattern that alerts the tape recorder/duplicator to stop, rewind the tape, and move on to the next blank for processing.

The Oddity Archive did a mini-episode about tape endings.

He's also done an episode on the subject of this thread, closing logos. He mentions tape endings in this episode too.

Ben, the host, seems a bit spergy but he's incredibly knowledgeable about vintage media and old television. I can forgive him for that, he's good company in my book.
