Germany's coalition government is
over
Federal chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has just sacked finance minister Christian Lindner (FDP)
This is after recent FDP upheavals and uncompromising demands, which had the goal of putting the coalition government to a breaking point
For context, they demanded tax reductions, more market economy in Germany and less government central planning, and an immediate ban on putting out new regulations

Chancellor Scholz has just announced a vote of confidence... on January 15. With the idea being that there will be a new general election by March.
The official excuse is that they need time to prepare for a general election. Personally I'm convinced they want more time to legally prohibit the AfD.

By now, economic minister Robert Habeck (Green), foreign minister Annalena Baerbock (Green), and
finance minister FDP boss Christian Lindner have made public statements too
Essentially, Lindner was sacked because he was against
sending all of German taxpayer money taking on 15 billion euros of government debt for the sake of giving aid to Ukraine to make a statement after Trump's election victory

AfD demanded a vote of confidence to be held immediately.
The media keep claiming that, with a vote of confidence in January, there could be new federal elections in Germany in March or April.
