Conflict in the Congo

History Legends is best known for his videos on the Russo-Ukrainian War (and often soyfacing in the thumbnail for some reason), but a few days ago he uploaded a 42-minute video on the M23-RDF offensive that ultimately captured Goma. The Rwandans being far better-equipped, motivated & disciplined compared to their enemies (and able to build much nicer forts) aside, apparently the rebels & their Rwandan backers broke the final Congolese defensive lines with a number of unforeseen flanking maneuvers and even an amphibious assault across Lake Kivu.

How long do you think it will take before the Rwandans will arrive at Kinshasa?

Ordinarily I'd like to say about two weeks, because that was how quickly they came close to toppling the old Kabila regime in Kinshasa back in the Second Congo War's opening days and there are no Zimbabweans using old Rhodesian equipment to derail their advance now. Unfortunately for them Rwanda doesn't seem to have any allies (Uganda & Burundi, their former buddies-turned-rivals from the 2nd Congo War, are sending in troops to oppose them & M23 now) for this round, they no longer have the element of surprise and it's taken them quite a while just to take the provincial capital of Goma again (I think this current round of hostilities got going like three years ago).

I guess in ~6 months we'll see if they were serious when M23 declared they were going to push all the way to Kinshasa, or if Kagame would be content with just snapping up the Kivus (and all the resources therein). Then again, the latter might well require the former (to install a Congolese gov't that would give the eastern provinces to Rwanda) anyway. Rwanda's pretty much the Prussia of Central Africa, but it can't be forgotten that Bulgaria was called the Prussia of the Balkans and still lost its 20th century wars (well, after the First Balkan War, and that was fought with a gang of neighboring allies) despite all its fighting prowess because it constantly got mobbed by hostile neighbors while lacking in allies which could reliably assist it.

Is Rwanda the israel of Africa?

DRC/Rwanda is one of the few conflicts that are genuinely too complicated to keep track of, and can best be summed up as: “Niggers gonna nigger”.

Personally I guess I support the Hutus, because fuck those Tutsi cockroach subhumans for reasons that are too obvious to bring up.
Someone needs to do a three kingdoms style dramatization or write a book like Josephus did or at least get these guys to stop using acronyms. Reading stuff like this is like getting assaulted by alphabet soup.

Bukavu is apparently in a state of anarchy, with the residents turning to rioting & mass looting as law & order (well, whatever passed for such concepts in Kivu Province before the ongoing offensive) collapses completely between a lack of food & the M23/Rwandan advance. Meanwhile the government troops seem to either be absent entirely, too thinly spread & focused on offering what resistance they can against the M23/Rwanda, or probably even involved in the looting themselves to put a stop to it. They certainly haven't been keeping a lid on the deteriorating situation inside the city, and reportedly got routed from the nearby Kavumu Airport without much of a fight back on Valentine's Day which definitely doesn't speak well about their remaining morale or fighting ability. (Archive)

If this shitshow continues I'd expect the fall of Bukavu to be imminent and an M23 announcement that they've fully taken over the place to come pretty soon. If not today, then sometime in the coming week.

Why are Hutus such retarded fucking subhumans?
If you grant them control over an entire country, they will suppress all progress, mismanage the economy, and, when things begin to collapse, resort to eliminating anyone who isn't Hutu in a desperate attempt to maintain power.
On the other hand, if you give the Tutsis full control over a nation, they will transform it into one of the most prosperous countries in Africa. With a small but highly effective military who buck breaks its enemies, they will shape their nation into the African equivalent of Israel: resilient, strategic, and economically dynamic.

Burundian forces have withdrawn from the DRC as M23 has continued their advance:

M23 are advancing on currently advancing on multiple fronts following the capture of Bakuvu.

To the southwest of Bukavu they have captured Kamanyola, which is located near the Rwanda-Burundi-DRC border tripoint. Kamanyola is notable as it marks the beginning of a large plain all the way to the shores of Lake Tanganyika. It also means that Rwanda now controls both sides of its entire border with the DRC.

If I had to guess, FADRC has probably taken up positions in Uvira on the northern shore of Lake Tanganyika as their next line of defense.

M23 are also advancing north towards Lubero and Butembo.

In addition to the FADRC and the Wazalendo (militias allied with the govt.), the Islamic State is also known to operate in this area. Will be interesting to see what happens here. Just today the Islamic State reported an operation in this area.

To the southwest of Bukavu, M23 were seen entering the town of Walungu, approximately 25km from Bukavu. Walungu is located on the N2 road on the way to Mbuji-Mayi.

Following the fall of Bukavu, the Congolese Vice-Minister of the Interior, Eugenie Tshiela Kamba, visited Mbuji-Mayi to shore up support for the government in the region in the fight against the advance of M23. It should be noted that Mbuji-Mayi is 700 km away from Bukavu and that it is the country's second or third largest city. Not a very good sign for the government.

How do I profit off the 3rd DRC civil war?
Also lol Burundi withdraws and Uganda invades ON THE SAME DAY, the Congo is so fucked.

After the fall of Kamanyola, infighting broke out among Congolese government forces in Uvira. A prison break was also reported in Uvira. In the aftermath of the fighting, the Congolese Army retreated to Kalemie, 280 km south of Uvira, while others escaped into Burundi. M23 has not yet arrived in Uvira.

To the north, M23 has continued their advance toward Lubero. They may be operating some of the Su-25s they captured from the Congolese military in Goma, as pro-government forces there report being the target of bombings. Rwanda is not known to operate any bomber aircraft, though they do have some drones and attack helicopters:
