The majority of the cookies are varying shades of brown because they're baked fucking flour. They don't have feelings. All of their worlds are literal meal-scapes. They essentially live in the least organized kitchen of all time. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't even think the fuckers have voices, just noises that play when they jump, crouch, or use a skill.
They have gender in the sense that some cookies are clearly designed female (Gingerbright) and others male (Gingerbrave), it happens to be inferred by their name or theme (Princess Cookie, Kumiho Cookie), while others are blatantly children (Pond Dino Cookie), and some are 'debatable' due to the general rules the game designs follow (pants, no lashes = male, skirt/dress and lashes = female) being broken in some manner, as with Cream Unicorn (overall flamboyant design, pastels) and Raspberry Mousse (pink, lashes, long hair, pants).
But how this matters so heavily to any of the people in this fandom is beyond me. They're gacha characters, pretty images to stare at while endlessly running through slightly differing stages.
They're pictures. They only have stories and personalities so these sheeple will be more willing to spend money on a costume, or merchandise, or whatever currency variant the game they're playing has. Who fucking CARES what cultural inspirations were used for the designs: THEY'RE JUST PICTURES.
I swear it used to be that a show, let's say Yu-Gi-Oh! or Scooby-Doo, might take inspiration from history, a culture, or a specific time period. And if a kid found themselves interested in it, they'd just go off and learn about Egypt and mummies whilst enjoying those shows because they had a capacity to understand no Egyptians were ever harmed by Scooby-Doo getting chased in a pyramid or the spirits of Egyptians looking exactly the same as two Japanese children's card game rivals.
Now everything is autistically dissected and treated more humanly than actual living people with no room for imagination and a good helping of suspension of disbelief. Unfuckingbelieveable.
TL;DR: THEY'RE GODDAMN COOKIES, KID.
